Hard case and soft case pros and cons for violin?
I would not use an actual soft case for a violin!! If you ignore any bendable actually-soft cases (which I have actually never seen for a violin) the two main types of single-violin cases are hard case - traditional slim case, usually pebbled black finish, not much larger than violin. Fits violin, 2 bows and usually includes a flip open compartment to hold resin, cloth, tuner, etc. Usually has no shoulder strap - only a handle to carry by hand. Benefit - compact size, outside is fairly resistant to raindrops Downside - no room for shoulder rest, may have no padding to protect violin if dropped cloth-covered styrofoam case (may also have plastic under the cloth around the case sides). Usually holds 2 bows unless it is a huge case. Usually has a flip open compartment to hold resin, cloth, tuner etc. May have both a handle and a shoulder strap. May have an outside zip pocket with enough room to hold a shoulder rest and some thin flat items.. Benefit - may have more padding inside as well as absorbing some shock with the outside if dropped. if it has the outside zip pocket, your shoulder rest should fit. Some nice colors. Downside - bulkier, takes a bit longer to open close (may have zipper AND clasps), outer cloth can get wet. (Note - they MAY call these soft cases but mine is not actually soft)
How do you take off a LifeProof case?
1.Removing the Bottom > Locate the charger port on the bottom of the phone or tablet. Open the charge port door.> Find the small slot to the left of the charge port. You should hear another pop when the other side of the latch opens.> Work your fingers in further, between the back of the phone/tablet and the back of the case. Pull the back of the case away from the front, using a back and forth motion toward your body.You should feel several latches along the side of the case release as you work the back portion away from the front in a seesaw motion.Do not use a peeling motion. Without your hand between the phone/tablet and the back of the case, it will break.> Set the back of the case aside.2. Removing the Top > Turn the LifeProof case over. Do the next step above a soft area, such as a bed, in case your phone or tablet falls out of the case quickly.> Apply pressure to the front of the case with the surface of your thumbs. Try to do this in the middle of the case.> Grasp your other fingers around the sides of the case. Your phone should pop out of the back.> Peel away any parts that are still attached at a gentle diagonal angle.

Can I use an iron on patch on my ukulele case?
I agree that ironing nylon would ruin the fabric. As hot as you need for iron-ons will not work. There are alot of fabric patches that are not iron-on. They can be glued on or you could hand-stitch the patch. Hand-stitching the edge with an overhand stitch like you would use for hemming. If you glue the patches, use a fabric glue. Go to a sewing goods store to find it, or check online. For other decorating ideas I can think of are ribbons or sequins. At the sewing goods store they will have different choices in different widths and colors. They might have sequins that are loose or on a ribbon. You might like glitter that you could glue on. Depending on how you handle the case, sequins might get knocked off though. I don't recommend dying the fabric. You could try buying like a yard of nylon and try painting it. Just buy 1 paint to see how it looks. Also to see how good you are at painting. There is fabric paint. There's also spray paint for fabrics. There's alot of screen painted t-shirts. You could look around for some designs. You could even buy a screen-printed t-shirt, cut out the design to glue or sew onto the case. Painting and screen painting may not be as easy as you think. That's why I recommend trying it on a sample piece first. You may want to take a piece of paper and draw out some ideas. Get some colored pencils to help you imagine what it will look like. Once you glue or paint the fabric it's nearly impossible to remove it without damaging the fabric. Lay out your patches on the case to see where it would look best before attaching them. Remember, how you decorate the case now, you may dislike a few years later. So just think about it. Good Luck
