Follow Up On Job Application

Follow up call after a job application?

either way no matter who you get on the phone you will most likely say something like .....

"Hi, I'm calling to check up on the application I submitted recently, could you direct me to the person I need to talk to? ...... Thanks......."

"Hi, I'm calling to check up on the application I recently submitted for the part-time front desk agent position. I'm wondering if you had the chance to go over my application and if it is appropriate to schedule an interview?" ...... they will probably say i haven't had a chance to go over it or you may be leaving a message.... continue with.... "I'm very interested in this position and believe I am a good candidate for the position." ("once you have reviewed my application, please call me at .....")

Do you follow up after job applications and if so, how?

I don’t think it hurts - unless you make a real pain in the ass of yourself over it (Don’t call more often than once a week!) - but on the other hand, with large companies, I don’t think it helps either. The larger the company, the more automated/impersonal the hiring process is…APART from the actual interviews, which are quite the opposite. You have to understand though that the time between your application and being asked to do a phone interview (or whatever) can be long. What tends to happen is that HR get a ridiculously large pile of applications. 90% of them are just junk. People who meet none of the requirements. Of the 10% that remain, maybe a dozen or so will get phone interviews - then a handful will get face-to-face interviews. But if NONE of those people work out - they may go back to some of the people they chose not to interview initially. In such cases, it could be many weeks between your application and getting an interview date. Also, it’s common for businesses not to tell you if you failed. This seems harsh - but it’s more or less the same thing. You don’t want to actively say “NO!” until your #1 choice accepts the job offer and shows up for their first day at work. Until that point, your #2 and #3 choices are left hanging just in case you need them.Recruiting is not a pleasant activity - for either side.

How do you follow up on a job application?

As a supervisor who is constantly reviewing and calling back applicants, I can tell you determination. I for one, like getting calls from applicants following up, it shows who is truly interested in the job often times. Just call up the office and inquire about to whomever answers with something like...

"Hello, My name is _____. I put an application in (time) and would like to know if the position has been filled or not. It hasn't, OK. Can you see to it that the hiring manager has received my application as I am still interested in employment with your company and have not received a callback yet."

Do not be pushy, but at the same time you should not fear calling them once a week or every two.
The more professional the job however, the less this advice is usable. I would take a different approach if I were let's say applying for the Head of Medicine department at a hospital. But in general, just call them and ask. Be polite, courteous, and professional.

[EDIT] Do not listen to the advice that says follow-ups are not needed anymore, that is just plain ridiculous. Do you still want a job, then follow it up. PERIOD.

What to say when you follow up job application?

Great question! Following up on your job applications is so important and can really make you stand out and get noticed. There are three different ways to follow up: email, phone, in person. Employers have told us that following up in person can really make a great impression (if you do it right). First, dress professionally, as you would for an interview. Bring copies of your resume with you. Go in during non-rush hour times. For restaurants this would be between 2-4 pm and for retail this would be in the mornings. Ask to speak with the manager and explain that you applied to their open position and wanted to follow up to see if they had any questions for you or if they know when a decision will be made. Good luck!

Follow up call after turning in a job application?

So Friday I got an application for Sam Ash music, filled it out in the store, but needed to get some information from home, so I just brought it back the next day. I applied at several places that day, but I really hope to get the job at Sam Ash because it felt like a neat place to work and the people seemed nice. I'm sixteen so this is my first time actually applying for jobs. I know it's best to give a follow up call, but I'm not certain what exactly I should say or how long to wait. If anyone could help me out I'd really appreciate it. Also, when I got an application the woman said she wasn't sure if they were hiring, but they were taking applications, will that effect what I should say on the phone or if I should call at all?

How late is too late to follow up on an application?

A2A.I can only give the UK perspective where the usual format is - job advertised with a closing date; applications come in; shortlisting takes place; interviews arranged; possibly 2nd interview to narrow the field; successful applicant appointed - so here goes.It depends on the job, the company and the job climate. If it is a government job, then they are usually quick to let you know if you have been unsuccessful, so I would give a max of two weeks before following up. In the private sector, it is reported that some companies today are getting 1000’s of applications per job, so I would give up to a month to give them time to deal with the volume of applications. If you submitted your application online or by email and did not get even an automatic reply, I would follow up with a phone call after one week max. You should then be able to get an answer on the expected timescale for handling applications. If you are using a recruitment agency it is their job to do the following up but you should call them every week for an update. Sometimes when a company is putting a specialist team together I have seen the hiring process take as long as six months. If there was no closing date, try calling the company. The receptionist often knows if the job has been filled and so you will know then that it’s too late to follow up.

Should you follow up on an online job application? If so, how?

I observe that, this depends on the turnover of the company..Typically in India..the bigger the turnover..the more the chance that it will go directly to trash and even follow up doesn’t work as the recruitment happens through different channels which has proved effective in the HR dept’s experienceTypically smaller turnover companies respond well to follow upsSome vacancies are posted just for advertisements..or on an impulse to collect CVs for a prospective position or just to see whether there are responses! Some vacancies after they are filled are not removed from the online career page!!Anyway… if you are actively wanting a job, then do follow up and from their response you would know why they have posted the online vacancy. How to followup :Thro email : Forwarding your previous email to them and asking for a status update - Only one time..if no response for this ..then you know now the answer..By contacting the HR dept from the company board numbers and referring your email to them.Followups help you to have better expectations..

How should I follow up after sending a job application by email? Should I reply on the same email that I sent or send a new email to the recruiter? Is it right to write "Meeting follow up - my name" in the subject space?

Mohan S Nayaka, thanks for A2A!  Answering your first question:I feel that you need to follow up a job application by replying to the same  email, such that the trail mail carries the earlier message. The main  reason for doing so it subtly point out to the recruiter that you already sent a mail  earlier and this is the second email. This makes if easy for the recruiter to track and search the mail if needed. The subject space in the first place may be: application for post of .............The subject will have Re: or Fwd: which should be enough  to  track the mail.  I have not understood what Meeting follow up means..... Hope this helps!

What do I say on a follow-up call for a job application?

I work for an employment agency, here are a few good ways to follow up, pick the best one for your situation. Good luck, I hope you get it!

1. I am calling to find out if the position for ____ was filled. (if they say no, say:) I am highly interested and would like to know if my application has been considered.

2. I am very interested and would like to know if you have reviewed my application for the ____ position.

3. I am calling regarding my application turned in last Monday. I am available immediately.

Have a great day and again, good luck!
