Food Posioning Have You Had It How Can I Tell Its Getting Better

Had food poisoning how can I get better?

Definitely don't add any meat or fatty foods to your diet for a few days.

You might actually want to go to the doctor...it's disgusting, but if they run some tests on your stool sample, they can narrow down which bacteria you have, and then prescribe some medication for it.

I had food poisoning when I was 13 and was in the hospital for three days with it. I don't have a clear memory of how long I was still struggling with the diarrhea, though.

Sticking to clear liquids [sports drinks are good because they return salt to your system which helps your cells to work properly] is the first order of business, and when you have been doing well keeping that down for 24 hours, add the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.

Proteins and fats are the hardest for the body to digest, so stay away from them until you've been keeping the BRAT foods down pretty well.

Has anyone else gotten food poisoning from eating fish tacos?

Fish does not take very long to cook. Chefs normally allow 8-10 minutes per inch of thickness. 27 minutes at 180oC sounds more than adequate. You can eat very fresh fish raw so unless the fish was rotten then i dont think you could have poisoned yourself. Did the fish smell very fishy before you cooked it? Did you eat it as soon as you cooked it? It is of course possible that your oven is not heating up to the correct temperature. Did you preheat the oven before you put the fish in? I would suggest you buy an oven thermometer from the cookware shop, they only cost about £5 and then you can check that your oven is actually at the correct temperature before you put your food in. I suggest that you have either picked up a bug from somewhere else or you could possibly be allergic to cod or other fishes. I hope this helps and that you feel better soon. In order to make sure fish is as fresh as possible always buy fish that has the head on. (You can ask the fishmonger to take the head off and fillet it for you). If the head is on the fish you can tell easily how fresh it is. The eyes should be really plump and glistening if it is really fresh. Stale fish has sunken dull eyes. Also the skin should be lovely and shiny and wet looking, stale fish has dull lifeless pale skin. Never cook and eat fish if it smells fishy - if it smells fishy it is off!

How do you get rid of food posioning and how do you know if thats really waht you have?

There's no stomach "flu". Flu, influenza, is a respiratory infection, not a digestive disorder. Now you brother may have gastroenteritis but whether it's viral or bacterial, I wouldn't know. And, there are gastric viruses that have a fast onset, are dramatic but last only about 24 hours. So, I'll try to answer your questions. If it's a 24 hour virus, it will last about 24 hours. Check with your brother tomorrow evening and see how he's feeling. You'll know better then. Maybe you're right -- maybe it's a combination of eating a lot, eating too quickly, working strenuously in the heat, not drinking enough fluids while working. But the diarrhea leads me to believe that these factors aren't the cause. I doubt it's heatstroke because heat exhaustion & heatstroke don't present this way, as you describe. Heatstroke develops out of untreated heat exhaustion. This leaves gastroenteritis. The main symptoms of viral gastroenteritis are watery diarrhea and vomiting although one or the other symptom may predominate. There also be headache, fever, and abdominal cramps. In general, the symptoms begin 1 to 2 days following infection with a virus that causes gastroenteritis and may last for 1 to 10 days, depending on which virus causes the illness; however, most episodes last from 1-3 days. So if your brother has viral gastroenteritis, he had it before today. Campylobacter jejuni, Clostridium, E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Staphylococcus and Yersinia are the main causes of bacterial gastroenteritis. Each bacteria causes slightly different symptoms due to the toxins they release but all result in diarrhea. Other symptoms include abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, bloody stools, colitis, a loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Bacterial gastroenteritis is "food poisoning". Symptoms of food poisoning can begin within a few hours or a few days, depending on whether the bacteria or the toxin causes the problem. Most bacterial types resolve within a week at most. It's in the symptoms, duration and whatever your brother can recall as to what he's eaten and done over the past 48 hours. That's how you know the difference between a 24 hour gastric virus, heatstroke, and viral & bacterial gastroenteritis. Bacterial gastroenteritis may require a stool sample to distinguish it from viral forms.

Your really cheating yourself by not eating at home on so many levels. First, there is the cost. Then, the obvious sickness your getting from eating out too much. Dude, go to the grocery store, start with the Shells and Cheese and build on that. your gonna die at 39 eating out.

Out of curiosity, if I fatally poison my own food knowing that my bully will take it by force, how will US court rule?

According to the laws of the land, it would not go well with you. If there was any inkling of the idea that you set a trap, it would not be good for you. However, any society that tolerates bullies is not a good society in my estimation. Bullying needs to be dealt with by whatever means necessary to insure that it does not happen again. If someone takes your lunch the consequences need to be such that he will never dare take your lunch again. Unfortunately, we have not progressed far enough to understand that. It would be better for you to give him your lunch before he takes it. That would probably take all the fun out of it.

I took a sick day because I had food poisoning. My boss believed I was hungover which isn't true. What do I do about this?

Well, the most obvious thing to me would be to talk to your boss, and ask him why he doesn’t believe you. I gotta tell you, I’ve never had a boss suspect me of being hung over when I’ve called in sick, and I’ve been working for over 25 years with different companies and different supervisors. Even the worst bosses I’ve had never accused me of that.I don’t think it is normal for bosses to automatically assume employees are alcoholics who regularly wake up on workdays hung over when they call in sick. If they do, they have a reason for it.You aren’t giving a lot of history but let me suggest a few reasons why he may not believe you:He may have people in his office he is not directly responsible for who he knows do this, and is conditioned to automatically suspect anyone taking a sick day, especially after a weekend, to be hung over. If you are hanging around those people, or are in the same job classification as they are, he might be primed to view any absences with suspicion. He may not have the power to do anything about them, but since you are his employee, he CAN watch you.You may have given him a reason to think that. Do you have issues with showing up hung over at work, or with alcohol on your breath or reeking of it? I once worked with a construction supervisor who came in one morning reeking of beer. He wasn’t drunk as far as I could tell, but boy, did he stink of beer. If you have ever done this, your supervisor may have the idea that you have issues with drinking. A couple of beers or wine with dinner will not do this—but a night of late night drinking will.So examine your behavior—if you are guilty of stinking of alcohol or hanging out with people the boss knows has issues, you might want to clean that up and keep your nose clean. He is sending you a message, and if you don’t heed it, you might find yourself out of a job.If you aren’t guilty of this, then sit down with you boss and ask him directly why he doesn’t believe you. Offer to allow him to drug test you at random so that he can know it isn’t your habit to show up drunk to work. If he won’t talk to you or otherwise allow you to prove to him you are trustworthy, then you might have to look for another place to work-you can’t work in an environment where the boss is accusing you of a career ending behavior.

Did you ever contact a restaurant after getting food poisoning from their food? How did they handle the situation?

If the food is not “up to snuff” as they say I will always contact a restaurant about it.Usually the situation is handled either in store or immediately after it’s delivery as many times one can tell if food hasn’t been cooked properly. An example being one restaurant I ordered fried mushrooms and boneless chicken wings and they arrived so dark looking the chicken was in the colors of burnt umber and black. The whole thing smelled of “burnt” - no to mention the taste would’ve too. I contacted them straight way, even sent a picture via my phone. The sent a whole new order that was much better, free of charge. They also let me know that the cook staff was admonished for what they allowed to go out past those kitchen doors. As far as food poisoning goes. That gets a little tricky as one has to be able to prove that it was the restaurant’s food that made one sick. If one thinks that they are sick from food poisoning, one should go to an E.R. to get treated and then, after having one’s stomach pumped or vomiting - into a bag if possible, ask to have the contents analysed. This will give one proof of exactly what was spoiled or contaminated to make one sick. If one has that, the proof that it was the restaurant’s food, call them up and ask to speak to the head manager or owner of the restaurant and explain the situation to them and that they have proof it was their meal that caused this. If they are unprofessional and blow you off, then contact a lawyer.Try to be polite first, as sometimes the restaurant folks may have discovered the problem and will gladly give out free meal certificates or offer to pay for any damages to those customers who fell ill. After one has spoken with them, if they were rude, follow as above. Without the proof though, they can blame it on another restaurant, meals made at your own house by your own hand, or whatever.

Gas after food poisoning?

i had food poisoning a few years ago from mc donalds and all i could do is wait it out. your stool floats from fat in the stool. gas is common with food poisoning and it usually last up to 4 or 5 days depending on what you eat. if its been three days and your not getting better a doctor should be seen as it might not be food poisoning. try some pepto bismal to help releive the gas pressure. if you are on your third day and your still sick you need to see a doctor.try walking some or move around as walking and body movements will help you pass the gas or stool. you can also eat bread or anything with carbohydrates such as potatoes or pasta to also help calm your stomach. stay away from fruits and soda and tomato sauce as they are acidic and can make more gas or add unwanted pressure to you stomach

How to know if you have food poisoning?

I got food poisoning/diarrhea yesterday and today it has gotten even worse...

at first it started as me having a fever so i went to bed early, i got up late the next morning feeling as if i had to puke, i didn't puke but a couple of minutes later i had diarrhea..i've had diarrhea before and this felt like the normal symptoms, i took some pepto (the pink medicine), and continued on with my day ( pretty much sleeping )...

for lunch i had a grilled cheese (butter, bread and cheese), then had a kinda spicy taco for dinner and couldn't even sleep the entire night cause it was back and forth from the washroom (i later found out that dairy, and spicy foods are not good when you have diarrhea..

anyways... i am starting to think i have food poisoning because all the other times i had diarrhea, it went away within 24 hours, and this time it is the second day and has gotten even worse then the first day i am starting to have yellowish diarrhea, and pretty much have to go every 10 minutes...i dont have any other symptoms though at first i thought i had the swine flu but its not looking like it..but this is teh first time i have ever had yellowish diarrhea, so is it necessary to see a doctor and what would be the difference between yellow diarrhea and food poisoning and normal diarrhea?

and what are the treatments for yellowish diarrhea or food poisoning (am i going to have to get antibiotics?)
