What would the Treaty of Versailles have looked like if it had been so harsh that Germany couldn't recuperate?
The treaty of Versailles was so harsh on Germany, that John Maynard Keynes had this to say about it:“The policy of reducing Germany to servitude for a generation, of degrading the lives of millions of human beings, and of depriving a whole nation of happiness should be abhorrent and detestable, - abhorrent and detestable, even if it were possible, even if it enriched ourselves, even if it did not sow the decay of the whole civilized life of Europe. And if it were, nations are not authorized, by religion or by natural morals, to visit on the children of their enemies the misdoings of parents of rulers.” ― John Maynard Keynes, The Economic Consequences of the PeaceAnd Germany would have been totally unable to recuperate for another generation where it not for a man with a (until then) funny mustache whose biggest feat was to convince the victor nations of the Great War to let Germany slowly but surely ignore the many degrading rulings of the Versailles Treaty.Some argue that especially the British were leaning towards a revival of Germany because they still felt the shame of the Treaty of Versailles which was one of the most self-defeating “peace” treaties in human history.
Traditions: Why do Asians take their shoes off when entering a house?
The main reason behind removing the shoes is hygiene. When you remove your shoes at the doorstep, you are also removing all the dirt and filth that you footwear protects you from, and which is now clinging to it.It's not just Asians who do that. I have been living in Canada for the past 8 years and everyone I know does that. Just imagine, during a 7 months long winter, you walk from your driveway to your main door and just keep walking without removing your shoes. All the snow and mud clinging to your boots is now all over the floor. Doesn't sound very hygienic, does it now? It's worse if you have carpeted floor because the carpet will absorb all the snow and will be damp all the time, causing unhealthy environment inside the house.I fail to understand why people make something so basic and simple into some wacky Asian stereotype.
