What does the 1856 Political Cartoon "Forcing slavery down the throat of a freesoiler" stand for?

It was all because of the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854 created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, opened new lands, repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820, and allowed settlers in those territories to determine if they would allow slavery within their boundaries. The initial purpose of the Kansas–Nebraska Act was to create opportunities for a Mideastern Transcontinental Railroad. It became problematic when popular sovereignty was written into the proposal. The act was designed by Democratic Sen. Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois.

The act established that settlers could vote to decide whether to allow slavery, in the name of popular sovereignty or rule of the people. Douglas hoped that would ease relations between the North and the South, because the South could expand slavery to new territories but the North still had the right to abolish slavery in its states. Instead, opponents denounced the law as a concession to the slave power of the South. The new Republican Party, which was created in opposition to the act, aimed to stop the expansion of slavery and soon emerged as the dominant force throughout the North.

Why weren't Americans able to resolve political disputes through compromise? (Antebellum Era)?

In early nineteenth century, Americans sought to resolve their political disputes through compromise, yet by 1860 this is no longer seemed possible. I have to list three arguments to why this happened. Help please? My brain is having a momentary relapse. This is for my AP US History DBQ. PAH-Lease.

I need information about former presidents for my 8th grade homeschooler.?

What major fiscal policy actions were taken during the Great Recession (2007-2009)? What impact did they have on U.S. economic performance?

I understand how how the recession occurred in the first place. I know that as far as fiscal policies, Bush passed the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 and also the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 which established the Troubled Assets Relief Program. Obama passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in early 2009. I also am familiar with the objectives of each.

My question is on what their impact on U.S. economic performance was. The more research I do, the more confused I'm getting. It of course seems all very political; Liberals interpreting data one way and Conservatives another. Some say it worked. Some say it failed. Some say it prevented a deeper economic recession or possibly even depression.
I'm leaning towards the latter. I'm not entirely sure. If someone could just point me in a direction and towards some reliable data that won't make my head spin (meaning not too high level; this is for a college-level intro macroeconomics class).

If you're wondering, my assignment is to write an executive summary making 3 positive statements/conclusions answering the question, backed by sufficient data/evidence/charts etc. in addition to 3 recommended actions to take regarding the economy based on the key conclusions.

US History question..?

Electrical power extended time for work and play. The telegraph which made it possible for people to communicate better. Oil made it possible for people to pay less money. These relate to modern revolution because they create acess to many different forms of imformation by creating new jobs and connevting more pepole together. It made it so now people can accomplish more from home. For example: reasearch, shopping, pay bills, etc.

Read newspapers and novels and vist art and history museums to improve their minds and to have fun. They took classes to improve their education which people do today also. Amusement parks were also popular back then. Shows such as the Wild West shows were very popular back then. They are not popular today but compare to rock and roll concerts and movies. Spectator sports were also popular.

How can I become a more intellectually stimulating person?

I hope the wording made sense there :P

Okay, so I'm a 17-year-old girl. My crush is also 17, and we're both gifted students (although he's a grade ahead of me due to being a few months my senior). He's not like your "average" teenage boy at all, really. I mean, he likes video games and stuff like that but ultimately what he craves is deep intellect, I can tell. I don't know how exactly to describe it, but I hope I can ramble on a bit until the idea is clear to you:

He's taking all AP classes, he's in NHS, he's somewhat into politics I think. He likes talking about advanced math and physics with his friends. But since I'm a year behind him, I haven't learned about most of the stuff he talks about. His dream schools are all Ivy Leagues. My point is, he's wicked smart. And to me it's insanely attractive (and he also has great hair, just saying).

He's never had a girlfriend, but I just know that he wouldn't ever be able to stick with someone who doesn't challenge him - or even want to be with them in the first place. Same goes for friends. And by challenge, that doesn't mean playing hard-to-get or by being a flirt - no, he'd want (and need) someone who can blow his mind rather than his... you know.

I've known this kid for a year. I've liked him ever since I met him, never really stopped. There's just something about him...

And deep down, I believe I'm that type of intellectual person. But the thing is, I feel like I come across as being an "average" and "typical" teenage girl. Especially to him. I mean yeah, I like makeup and clothes and pink (both the color and the Victoria's Secret line), and pop songs and boy bands and shopping. Now obviously, those aren't things that I could discuss with most boys. But many boys find those things attractive in girls. However, THIS boy could care less. It wouldn't hurt to be pretty, but it's not what truly turns him on. I can tell. I just know.

How can I prove to him that I'm honestly a smart, wise, and deep-thinking person?
