Forced To Pay Rent After Leaving

Minor forced to Pay rent at parents?

Looking for some legal advice.

Consider the following:

I am 16 years old ( 17 on July 6th)
I have a high school Diploma ( '06" )
I have a full time job
I am taking a small break from college

I am currently living at home with 2 parents, 6 siblings, and a nephew.

Is it illegal for my parents to demand rent?
Is it illegal for my parents to demand rent without a lease/contract?
Is it illegal for me to be charged rent and then have additional restrictions added?
For example, being forced to get off of my computer (Although 80% of the funds used to purchase my laptop came from my parents a year ago, the computer and insurance is completely in my name, 100%. It is my property, although they like to frequently call it " their " machine. What if someone gave you a christmas gift. can they just decide to take it back because they paid for it?.. No... )

The way I see it, if I am paying rent, this space belongs to me, and I can do whatever I please.

Keep in mind the following :
I am financially responsible for all of my meals.
I am responsible for transportation to and from Work.
I am responsible for basically, everything personal. I don't require my parents for anything, except staying here. I hardly even leave my room, ever - Which I share with a younger brother, and with BROKEN doors, so there is -0- privacy.

Also Consider that this is an extremely hostile living environment. Both of my parents do nothing but scream and yell all day long, every other word being a curse word. Complaining that I'm a burden of some sort and I need to be in school.
I am not a delinquent. Never gotten into trouble. I don't do drugs. I have a full time job. I plan to go back to school. What the **** is the problem?

Mother is extremely, extremely, controlling to the tiniest degree. Probably pissed I didn't perform according to her plan for -my- life?

She sort of just asked for my Bank card and Pin number and left the house with it, to withdraw a totally undetermined amount of money from my Bank Account. ( Mostly because she's broke and figures she can exploit me )

If it's anything over 200hundred I am asking for it back and finding a place to stay Via craigslist.

Can an apartment complex force you to leave because of renovation to the apartment you're renting?

I currently live in Santa Clara, California where I am on a program for reduced rent. They are ending the program in about a month and have told me I need to leave because of that. I am paying rent month to month and have told them that I would be fine with paying the market price for the apartment. They gave me a few notices, one last year and a few more this year telling me how to prepare to move out. On the most recent letter (that told me what I need to do before I move out) I had the property manager write down on the paper they sent me as the reason for my needing to leave as "Renovation to apartment" right next to "end of program"

I talked to them and we discussed a few scenarios (but never agreed on any)
They said I can move out for 30 days while the renovation is happening and move back in when it's done and then pay the market price, they said they will wave any application fees and will keep my current deposit on the apartment...

What are my options? Can they really force me to leave because of renovation and not give me any compensation? That means I have to pay for my own movers, moving truck, new apartment, fees, deposit, everything and there's nothing I can do about it?

Can my landlord force me to pay rent with only venmo?

My landlord will only allow me to pay rent via venmo (a shitty version of cashapp) and it has been causing many issues. My venmo account is suspended for "suspicious activity" (I have no idea why and the company has not made it easy to resolve the situation) so I cannot currently use my venmo. But my landlord is forcing me to use venmo to pay my rent. If I take out money and give it to my roommate to pay, my roommate has to deposit it in to his account which may take more than a business day and is extremely inconvenient, but also my landlord charges me late fees for the delay. He refuses to take cash, cashapp or even certified checks. The lease says absolutely nothing regarding online payments or venmo, but says "rent may be made payable to and delivered to" (my landlord's name and address) so doesn't that imply that at least certified checks are allowed? Does he have the right to only accept venmo or am I correct in saying he should take at least one other traditional method of payment? And he has already charged me late fees because of this situation before so if I'm right, am I entitled to those late fees as reimbursement? Please help!

Im 16, and my step-dad is forcing me to pay rent!!?

So I just turned 16 on July 4th (18 days ago), and my step-dad (who claims he hates me) is telling me to get a job and start to pay rent for living in this house!! Is that legal? I mean, why would I pay rent if I'm the child of my mom who he is married to, and I'm under age. Is there anything I can do about this legally or just mentally? What options do I have? Thankxx!

As a landlord have you ever had a tenant who stopped paying rent and wouldn't leave, how did you resolve this?

You resolve it by evicting them, ASAP.See if you can negotiate them out, because it’s not a short process literally moving them and all they own out to the curb.In Texas, it takes about six weeks from the time a Notice To Quit & Vacate is served, and the time in Texas is shorter than the majority of states. If you can negotiate them out, your time is shorter and they are not left with a judgment hitting their credit for the next several years.Caution: Start the eviction process, then start the negotiating.Knowledge that you already have an eviction suit filed can make them more willing to negotiate, plus you don’t waste time from a tenant negotiating in bad faith. If you give them two weeks to get out before you begin the eviction, you’ve just added two weeks to the time it will take to get them out if they were lying or meant to get out but their plans fell through. You can always do a Motion To Dismiss if you start the eviction then you get the keys turned in before the trial date actually arrives.

What do you do if your roommate doesn't pay rent and is on the lease?

Note: I originally answered the question:What do you do if your roommate doesnt pay rent?It was moved into:What do you do if your roommate doesn't pay rent and is on the lease?Which is an entirely different set of circumstances, since two of my three potential scenarios no longer apply, now that the answer has been moved to the new question.I leave my original answer to the original question, below, intact.I assume you are not a 12 year old girl trying to charge her little sister rent, because you have to share a room.If you are both adults, it depends on your housing situation. If you own the house, and they are living there and supposed to be paying rent, and they’re not, you evict them, because they aren’t your roommate, they’re your tenant, and you’re they’re landlord. So you give them a three day notice to quit for non-payment of rent, and if they don’t leave, you go down to your local superior court, and 5 days later, they are evicted by court order, and three days after that, the sheriff shows up and the workmen you hired remove their stuff, the sheriff removes them, and the locksmith you hired changes the locks, and the sheriff waits around until they leave. Or they arrest them. Whichever comes first. If you are renting because you don’t own the place, and you are on a month-to-month lease, you find a new place for you (but not your roommate), you give your landlord 30 days notice of termination of the lease, and then you move.If anyone on the lease gives notice of non-renewal, then the lease terminates for everyone on the lease.Evicting your deadbeat roommate (who now has no lease) is your landlord’s problem. If you’ve paid the rent in the meantime — which you had to do, or you’d have an eviction on your record, and never be able to rent from a sane landlord again — you take your roommate to small claims court for the portion of their rent that you paid. You can pretty much kiss your security deposit “goodbye”, because your roommate is not going to go away nicely. If you are renting because you don’t own the place, and you are on a long term lease, you are pretty much screwed.Getting screwed is what happens to people who have bad taste in roommates. You either pay out the term of the lease, or you live with your deadbeat roommate until the end of the lease, or you take your roommate to court.Work on your taste, going forward, and chalk this down as an expensive lesson.

Can parents force a child under 18 to pay rent legally? My sister is 15 and cannot get a place of her own, but is being forced to pay rent.?

BY LAW... in all states, a parent has the LEGAL RIGHT to any ..ANY.. EARNINGS of a minor child. They can take it all. I am sorry if that sounds harsh, but it is reality.
It is not "rent" in the usual sense, because if it is not paid, she cannot be evicted. In a rental, the person has some rights. A parent is LEGALLY responsible for the necessities of life for a child, meaning they MUST provide a home, food, clothing.

Can my parents make me pay rent?

My parents are forcing me to pay rent now that i have had a job for about 6 months...i am currently seventeen and have about nine months until i turn 18 ...financially my income is not necessary to the home for survival..my parents are rather well off and tell me that they expect me to pay rent for all of the trouble i have caused over the years....(no criminal record or anything close to that) I need help finding a legal precedent ...if one exist ...to show my parents that since i am still a minor and a high school student that they do not have a right to force rent out of me. Please help.

I find it necessary to add more details...so as to not get bashed on anymore....My dad makes $150k a year and we have a $2000 rent every month...utilities as well as phone bill and cable come out to about another $1200 ....with barely paying health insurance due to my moms job at a hospital...and car insurance a cuple of hundred with no new cars to pay for..and no mortgage to pay for that leave a good $8000 each month in excess give or take a couple of hundred of dollar.....i know my parents financial situation very well due to the fact that my father left for the army in october of last year for a six month training....in which i realized that the limited financial help from the army wouldnt be enough..so i got a job to help out my mother with bills...i am only high school educated but am very bright and plan to major in business and law when i go to college...but while my father was away i gave roughly $5000 to my mom to help out in the six month period...i know its not alot but it was the best that i could do for a fulltime high school student working at partime minimum wage....during this time i stepped up and did balance check books and deal with the household finances due to my mothers lack of mathematical abilities to do these things right...i understand the responsiilities that come with money and esp. with living by yyourself....so i need a legal reason to tell my parents that i do not/ will not put forth money when it is not imperative to our survival...i am currently trying to save for college which i know will be expensive. so please if anyone can help me out with what i ask and not bash on me with the bullshit that i deserve to learn a lesson(which i did six months ago) i would greatly appreciate it
