Forces That Prevent Us Taking Action Against Climate Change

Why are the right-wingers in the US against climate change?

I’m a moderate libertarian, so I’m a 0-winger.First, I wish people would stop using the term “climate change” when they actually mean “global warming”.Second, the best evidence we have, based on global temperatures over the last 40 years, is that the Earth is warming at a rate of about 2C per century. And it is highly correlated with the amount of CO2 emitted, so it is likely man-made.The problem with many leftists is that:1) They think that a few degrees of warming over the next century will “destroy the Earth”.2) They want to make us feel guilty about our CO2 emissions and impose a carbon tax in the United States. This would do nothing to mitigate global warming, but it would make energy more expensive. This would result in everything being more expensive, which would hurt the poor the most.3) They don’t realize that China, India and other developing nations are responsible for almost all of the increase in CO2 emissions. (I don’t blame them because their economies are growing, and they need the energy). What should we do? Invest in research into reducing the costs of nuclear, solar, and wind power. Whenever these can generate electricity for about 2 to 3 cents per KWH, build new power plants using them. Within a few decades at most, we’ll be building only these types of plants, and so will the rest of the world.

Should nations who are not proactively working to prevent disaster related to climate change be sanctioned?

Fossil fuels literally power the world and is the cheapest and, so far, the most effective way to do so. If you want to get out of poverty and be more productive, richer and happier, you need to use more power, not less. The greens have banned all other effective and safe ways of creating energy, such as nuclear and hydro, and want us to use ineffective and extremely expensive sources of energy, such as solar and wind.Developing countries cannot afford these ineffective sources of energy. If they want to raise their populations out of poverty, they will use the cheapest sources of energy. Now, fossil fuels generate CO2, but who says that CO2 is a pollutant? CO2 is the fabric of life, without it, this planet would be a bare rock. And who says that every human activity has a negative impact on climate. It is proven that the earth is getting greener and because the extra CO2, crop yields has risen which means that we can feed more people with less work.So let developing nations do what they need to do to raise their standards of living, be prosperous and happy. They are not harming anyone and definitely, they are not harming the planet nor contributing to climate change. Climate will change regardless.

Why does climate change require a global action?

A big reason for global consideration is that while both natural processes and human actions happen in a given place and time, air and water are in motion around the globe forever. There are plenty of demons although I don’t worry about climate catastrophe based on CO2 increases, from whatever the source. There’s little good, empirical evidence on that although there are plenty of dire predictions. What’s left then? I worry about and take action to reduce the scale of the trash stream, to clean waterways of rubbish that could injure animals, to confine emissions of and reprocess troublesome leftover materials (such as waste lubricating oil) so to protect watersheds, to limit and eventually exclude intentional or accidental imports of species that could become invasive such as kudzu, Asian carp and even rainbow trout, to evaluate land use changes while protecting property rights (dubious water diversions and water rights that lead to perverse incentives are in this category), and on down the list.es.<A]|

Republican using Scare Tactics to Prevent Cuts to Military?

Why indeed? Here is why, A lie told enough times without being challenged will soon be accepted as truth. And the lie is that asking questions, speaking your mind is not unpatriotic, it is the right thing to do. Fear of being called a commie, a bleeding heart liberal, or Unamerican is supposed to keep you quiet. So you will be afraid to speak up and speak out. So you'll fall into line and not give them any trouble, never question, never ask why. It's called intimidation. They can't carry out their programs unless we let them. And we let them by not challenging what they do, why they do it and holding the politicians accountable for whatever actions they have already taken. You don't demand your rights, then you will have no rights. You don't demand that everyone is accountable to all the laws, then those who abuse the law will continue. If you don't speak up and speak out, you will be abused for being silent. To remain a free nation we must all learn to question authority, challenge wrongdoing on the part of those in power, demand justice and fairness be applied equally to rich and poor, regardless. It's been the program for taking over the country since the 80's. Nothing new at all. You have to be fearless and stand up to them anyway. All it takes for evil to succeed is for good people to say nothing. How do you think America came to be? A bunch of citizens tired of being pushed around started speaking out and taking action.

What is John McCain's position on climate change caused by human activity?

You only don't believe that people aren't affecting the global environment if you're completely uneducated or in complete denial.

McCain is all about carrying on the current policies, so I'd say the republican party and McCain want to keep ignoring the climate changes occurring from our pollution and over-extraction of natural resources.

The salmon run this year on the west coast was only 60,000 fish. So to say humans don't change the environment and ultimately the climate is asinine at this point. Look around, the evidence is in plain sight.

Who are the key public figures speaking out for action against climate change?

Leonardo DiCaprio is a fairly well known environmentalist. He produced a documentary 'the 11th hour' about climate change and has a namesake NGO that is dedicated to wildlife conservation. Gisele Bundchen is also a well known personality who dedicates time to environmental causes. She has been a UNEP Ambassador since 2009.
