Found This Dog At A Pound Do You Think She Looks Nice

Found a Dog! Looks like a black bichon frise?

Ok, let's go through this step by step.

The dog should be put somewhere safe where he's not interacting with your dog. If he's sick, you don't want your dog catching anything.
Then, you call animal control and have them come get the dog or have mom bring him in the morning or later tonight.

If you don't want the dog going to the shelter, then look on http://www.petfinder.com and see if a small dog rescue group can take him in.

Did you ever found your lost dog/cat?

It's never too early to contact the animal shelter. But don't end with the one in your town/area, contact all within 50 miles. Also contact local vets.
If your dog is not used to being at large chances are she's near by. Look in small dark areas - under houses, bushes, in sheds, etc. Dogs will hide in these when afraid. Talk to people in your neighborhood - mail carrier, paper delivery, kids, UPS driver, etc.
Put up flyers with a pic of your dog, check parks, schools, etc.
Yes I' have lost my dogs and have found them doing the above things.
My dogs are now microchipped as proof of ownership - even if they are taken 100 miles away the shelter will scan them for a chip and call me!

Found a beagle mix looks pregnant how far along is she?

i found a begel mix running the streets she is definetly a pup herself and was bone thin. in the process of finding her owner or a good home(i have two dogs already)she started looking pregnant. i have never had a dog that wasnt fixed so have never experienced puppies. there is no way anyone is going to adopt her now that i have felt the babies kick as of last night so im going to have to ride this one out. and knowing my heart will prob end up keeping her or one of the pups. how far along is this dog and how could she have even gotten pregnant when she looks only six months old herself.she had a sister that i found with her and she died two weeks ago with no signs of being sick i thought maybe she had parvo. but now that this dog is definetly pregnant i think she may have died from being pregnant too. is this dog going to make it. P.S. i cant afford a vet if possible so any suggestions other than go see a vet would be helpful.

What would you do? Found the perfect dog- he's 5 pounds over my apartment's weight limit?

I hate to give you advice. My building also has a weight limit, which is 30 pounds. In my building there is nothing official, I think a lot of the time, they just go by the height of the dog, not realizing that a tall dog can weigh less than they think. My old mixbreeds' weight hoovered between 28-32, depending on if it was summer or winter. There's a pug in our building that is over 35 pounds.

Have you owned a dog in this building before? If so, did you have any problems? If not, they could let you slide. Then again, could the dog stand to loose any weight? You can always say that the dog currently weighs X, but is overweight from being in the shelter and not getting exercise and should weigh Z.

If the rescue does contact your building owner/management, they may just ask if dogs are allowed and may not ask if there's a weight limit, unless you already offered up that information. Do you have a good relationship with your vet, if so, do you think he would be willing to fudge the #'s a bit?

I don't think I would mention the weight to management. I think, that if i was asked, I would say what I wrote above, which is he's a little overweight from being in a crate all this time but that he's going to be on a diet and will be under the weight limit.

It's not like they are going to pull out a scale and weigh every dog in the building.

edit: Wow! That dog looks just like my friends' dog, who lives upstairs. It's also a Chow/Retreiver mix. He's a sweet sweet dog. I would tell them it's all hair, plus, he probably could stand to loose a few pounds.

I hope it works out for you. Good luck.

Will a dog eat itself to death if you give it twenty pounds of food? Or will it get full and walk away at some point?

I came home from work one day to find my dogs had broken into the cabinet and eaten an entire week's worth of food in one sitting. There was a shredded bag, a couple areas covered with puked up dog food, and two dogs lying on their sides as if they were in A LOT of discomfort. I cleaned up the mess, trying not to yell because if you don't catch a dog in the act yelling at them accomplishes nothing. Then, I got my dinner and went to the living room only to hear my dogs whining and pushing their bowls around because it was almost six o'clock, their normal time for dinner. I'm speculating that it's possible for a dog to eat itself to death, but more likely it's just going to be sick and then ready to eat again after that.Edit: People have pointed out to me that it's possible for a dog to die from bloat from eating too much of something or something it shouldn't have eaten. I agree that it's NOT a good idea to give dogs free reign of food unless you're 100% sure you have a "grazer" but still think, overall, the majority of dogs will vomit as a means of self-protection than will die from overeating.

I found a stray dog that might be pregnant. What do I do?

My friend, who is also my neighbor, found the dog (a very sweet chihuahua) and asked me to help. However, her brother is allergic to dogs, and I already have one, so neither of us can take it. She acts pregnant, because she won't let us pick her up or touch her stomach and lower back, and if you look closely it seems as if her stomach shifts a little. Although it's possible that someone might claim the dog, it is unlikely, given that she acts like she was kicked out. We would really like to take it to the vet, but with times being like they are, it might be hard for us to get the money. For the time being, though, we are stuck. Can you help us decide if this dog is actually pregnant? And how do we care for it if it is? Even a simple way to earn the money for a check-up would help. We really don't want to have to take her to the pound. Thank you!

Found a dog who is in need of medical attention? Do not want to take to shelter.?

We found a dog outside at 1am in a rainstorm by our driveway he was nearly hit by a car. He has scarring from previous fights or injuries. He is very friendly looks like a lab pitt mix. He has been neutered but has no microchip. I took him to my vets for a chip scan. My vet said he needs medical attention and has a skin disease where he is red and irritated in areas and loosing fur. His paws are bloodied they think he's pretty far from home. She said he needs medicine but she will charge us for the exam and medicine. He is not ours to decide his care. We've put up fliers, lost ads on Craigslist, and put him in the shelters found book. We don't want to drop him off at the shelter for fear he'll be put down since he's a pitt mix. Should we get him medical treatment and if we do can we charge the owner if they claim him? Its been 2 days. He's a big sweetheart and knows tricks and is the best behaved dog I've ever met! He is eating well. He is probably 4-7 years of age.
