France - About Muslim Woman Dress

Why do they say France is bacon? I'm muslim, does that mean i cant go there?

That is a ridiculous and stupid way of describing France made by people who have never been there and part of the smear and hate campaign which started when the French government refused to invade Iraq, a Muslim country. What is meant by that nasty smear is that the French are so feeble that they are eaten up by their adversaries.
Of course you can go to France, and there is a large number of Muslims who have settled there from North Africa all over the place. You can even wear traditional hijab and long dresses. What you are no longer allowed to wear is the Niqab ( where your face is completely hidden) because it has been used by terrorists to escape and it is considered repressive of women's liberty and individuality.

What is it like to be a traditional Muslim woman in France after the recent extremist attacks and burka ban?

I am told by my French informant that for the most traditional women, they basically can't leave the house, because they would be legally required to uncover themselves in a manner that is unacceptable according to their convictions. This means no work outside the home, no ability to take care of their own affairs if it can't be done online. Even medical care becomes problematic.I myself have never practiced hijab in a sufficiently conservative manner to run afoul of current French law, but I can very easily see why a woman would want to dress this way by personal choice. So it appears very oppressive and counterproductive that France is not currently allowing them this choice.

Is the French burqa ban still in place? Is a Muslim woman wearing a burqa arrested in France?

I’ve never heard of a Burqa ban. I know a few dozens of towns in the South did ban the burqini (although it was deemed anticonstitutional and the prefects forced the mayors and town councils to withdraw their bans), but any woman can go around wearing a burqa in France. She might have some trouble getting public services if she refuses to take it off with public servants and the like, but she will not be arrested for wearing a burqa. I’ve seen 2 women in burqa yesterday on my way to work! They were certainly not hiding from the police.EDIT: Yes, face coverings are forbidden, and wearers of any mask, if they don’t have a good reason for wearing it, encur a 150 € fine. But I guess in some places you just don’t feel it as much. Note that the ban does not single out the burqa or any Islamic garment; it also applies to youths sporting balaclavas (as were common in the 2000s) or any other person hiding their face in public. And no, the cops will not take you to prison for wearing a burqa, but they may fine you.

France's Hijab rule...How are Muslim Women treated in France?

Are Muslim women allowed to wear the Hijab (Head scarf) in France? I heard that they can't wear it in public buildings like schools, banks, etc. Is that true?

And if it is like that, then what about religious freedom? Isn't that rule against human rights? I live in America, and I have the religious freedom to practice my religion. I think Turkey also has some unjust rules like that.

My second question is about travel. If I were to travel to France, as a Muslim women, what sort of problems should I expect?

A question for MUSLIM WOMEN only?

I think the fact that many Muslim women are fighting this ban shows that they all don't.

If you are actually interested, you should see if you can track down the article, "Do Muslim Women Really Need Saving?" by Lila Abu-Lughod. It is in many introductory anthropology readers. It highlights a perspective that most of us who want to run to the "rescue" overlook. Many women choose this form of modesty .... and not just Muslim women.

Would it be a good idea for French Muslim women to wear a wet-suit instead of a burkini?

It is, absolutely, better than not wearing anything and being naked. But it is not a kind of hijab which is recommended by Islamic scholars. According to Shiite scholars, women’s bodies should be covered so as to no men could see their bodies and charms.[i] Wearing any kind of clothes which display shape, and organ of the body is not allowed for women in front of men.Even if we, in any reasonable way, can solve the problem mentioned above, we cannot allow a female (or even a male) Muslim to attend the so-called beaches. In every place in which a sin is being committed, a Muslim is not allowed to attend and take part in the community of the sinners. If a Muslim is present on a beach in which non-Muslims are swimming without their ordinary clothes, he or she will be a wrongdoer too, because s/he seems to be satisfied with them. Thus, if a female Muslim attends the so-called beaches with her chador (fully covered), she is committing a sin and if a male Muslim attends there even wearing a suit he is a sinner. So the best advice for Muslims is to go to the beaches where they can swim without committing a sin, whether it is in an Islamic country or not.[i] http://www.sistani.org/english/q...http://www.leader.ir/en/book/38Woman in the Viewpoint of Imam Khomeini & Imam Khamenei

Is it racist for France to ban Muslim clothing like the burkini?

Islam isn’t a race, but it is a religion which its followers in some parts of the world are discriminated. The banning of Hijab and burqa is an obvious discrimination against Muslim women, denying them the right to freely practice their religion.French's move to ban the burqa will initiate a new wave of Islamophobia and state racism in France. Before this legislation, many young Muslim girls in France have been deprived of their absolute rights to study and work after the French government barred Hijab (Islamic dress code) in schools in 2004.France is home to the largest Muslim population among the 27 European Union member states and this legislation will effect Muslim women.

What do Indian Muslims think of France's ban on wearing the hijab in public?

As far as I know, France has banned wearing niqab/burqa and not hijab. There is a difference.Turkey, a Muslim majority country, follows French model of secularism. Yet it has banned Burqa even before the French did it. That should change some perspective. Also as a fact, Islam doesn't ask women or men to wear a Burqa. It asks both, male and female to dress modestly by defining how much of the body to cover. It doesn't ask covering the face.Yes, many things that Muslims do isn't Islamic. Many a times it is anti-Islamic such as building Dargah, bowing to some Kabr, identifying oneself as Shia, Sunni etc.Hence, as per Islam and Common sense is concerned, women must not be forced to wear a Niqab. Also women must not be forced not to wear one unless it is threatening to her or the society. What gets me mad is the priority people put to such things, as if all of the national and global issues have been dealt with already.

Wtf is wrong with France?

So, they feel that refusing women their right to practice their religion and culture will provide them with "gender equality"? Are the French really that stupid and hateful?

I'm marrying a French and he's a Muslim. Do I need to wear a hijab all the time once I converted?

You don’t even have to convert .That is if you don’t want to and or if you are not ready. Islam permits him to marry Christians and Jews. And even if you want to be Muslim you don’t have to wear the hijab, that is a personal choice, it doesn’t make you less muslim. In Islam , God checks the intention of people and when they die all their good deeds are weighed against their bad deeds. And if they did something without true intention ( ie to please someone else and not God) it doesn’t make it into the record. So , this is a personal choice, not your husband’s. If your muslim , according to the religion it is good to dress modestly but if it’s an action you are doing without the desire and intention then you don’t have to. I.e it’s good to save money because there is a reward at the end, but you don’t have to, it all your personal choice. God is said to be closer to a person them their jugular vein and he knows whether someone’s heart is in something or not. So unless you understand the purpose behind the hijab , convert by your own will not just for your husband, and you actually WANT TO , then don’t have to feel compelled to wear it. If the previous is true, then go ahead and take it slow, wear it occationally at first for as long as you feel comfortable. The Qur’an reads: “Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship.” (Qur’an, 2:185)
