Freaking Out Over Leukemia

I think I might have Leukemia, help?!?

Okay so just recently I noticed at first I've been losing weight all the time. I went from 106 to 98 and like today I haven't been hungry whatsoever at all and I haven't ate anything. I have all over mostly in my arms like my bones ache. I keep waking up at night sweating a lot, and I try to take more clothes off to get cooler or uncover, I have a huge fan going and I still sweat. I looked up bruising because I keep having these dots that look like they are bleeding around my bruises which I have been getting a lot of lately and I don't even know how but they are very painful, and it said that they are bleeding under the skin and it took me to a thing on leukemia and it said those are all symptoms so now I'm freaking out. I am going to go to the doctor but any like advice or does anyone know whats going on I don't want to assume the worst?

I am scared that I have leukemia?

I am fourteen years of age.
About a month ago, I got really tired and down. I had that "Out of body feeling" I then developed a depersonalization disorder. The link to information:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depersonalization_disorder

I then stressed out everyday, I have been battling depression for two years, due to bullying ect. I have a anxiety disorder. Like I worry when I have a headache, is it a brain tumour, or if I find a lump, I freak out if it is cancer.

So anyway, I was feeling overly exhausted and I had no energy to go to school. I had sleep insomnia but I am better now. I usually have to wake up to go to school at about 6am. I go to bed at about 9pm. I got so bad, I went home "sick" even though i knew it was just real bad tiredness. I only went to school for like two days that week.

It gradually got better but i was still tired. I got used to it. Now it came back and its bad again. I wake up feeling like i got no sleep, it takes me forever to get out of bed. I get good hours of sleep, probably more than the rest.

But I was reading the symptoms of anemia, because my mom had it and she has to take iron pills daily. My grandmother has it too, if that matters and she is normally tired all the time. So my mom brought me some iron pills and I took one about two hours ago, it hasn't helped and I'm scared!

I have this thing where I can talk myself in feeling sick, so I may be overreacting. I was looking at the leukemia too. I freaked out. Now i actually think I have the disease. My muscles hurt and I have a sore joint in my thumb, but I might of injured that joint in netball, I'm not too sure.

I am having scary thoughts, I'm scared I am going to wake up with bruises all over me and I keep freaking out, when I think I see a bruise. Also I find it hard to breathe, I suffer from panic attacks, so I might be having one.

I have a fear of doctors, I mean real bad. I mean I don't know if all this is in my head or not. My eyelids are red. AHHHH HELP. I might of had hay-fever this morning too.

Does my kitten have feline leukemia?

It's a definite possibility. I say this because my husband and I adopted two kittens from a shelter who displayed the exact same initial symptoms. Our vet also told us to consider feline leukemia. We didn't think too much about it, and eventually they both recovered to full health.

A year and a half later, one of our (now grown) kittens became very sick seemingly out of the blue, and after a four day hospital stay (where he rallied twice) we had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him. It was then that we had them both tested for feline leukemia. They both tested positive.

I don't say this to scare you or make you sad. I say this because for the year and two months that we had our kitty, he was absolutely incredible. He was a cat-haters' cat. He would stare at your face as you talked, like he was some sort of English to Cat translator. He was a cat that my husband and I joked would make us a lot of money as as a cat-model/actor.

I also believe that animals pick their people. When we were at the shelter Jack (that was his name) sauntered up to me, meowed once at my feet, jumped in my lap and proceeded to take a nap. He was nothing but a complete (trouble-making) joy until the day he died. The vet cried when we had to put him down. The vet hospital staff would go out of their way to say "good morning" and "goodnight" to him. He was truly one in a million.

I would say have your kitten tested, regardless of whether or not you decide to return him. Feline leukemia can be managed. Our girl kitten is happy and (for now) healthy, and we wouldn't trade her for the world. Until the day she dies she will have the best life my husband and I can possibly give her. Would you give up a one and a million cat?

Ultimately, that's why we rescue cats from shelters.

Nosebleed? Freaking me out? Uhhh?

Okay so a few months ago I had a pretty bad nosebleed. I looked in the mirror and there was blood like running down my nose. A few minutes ago, I thought my nose was running so I wiped it not thinking anything of it and didn't bother looking at it since my room is dark. I wiped it again and I looked at it and it wasn't a lot, but a smear of blood. There's even a drip of blood on my shirt. After I blew my nose, it wasn't bleeding anymore. They don't last long. Maybe a few seconds until I blow my nose. I've NEVER had a nose bleed until this year. I'm freaking out because my sister just had to tell her hypochondriac sister (me) that it's a sign of leukemia and now I think I have it... No one in my family has ever had cancer except my great grandma and that was because of smoking. Is this common? Is there anything to worry about? Should I be scared? I only get them if my nose is dry and I've only had 2.

Should I Euthanize a Kitten with Leukemia?

that is such a difficult decision, because cats with FELV can survive for years with out incident.

But you are putting your cats at risk.

that being said, I had a foster experience where I took home a set of kittens that hadnt be tested, and turned out to be positive. My shelter's policy on that is PTS. (they have limited funds) well those kittens exposed other kittens I had, and I adopted three of them. One got ill and died, and another one of my cats was exposed and tested FELV+ I had him tested six weeks later, and he was still positive. Because he was a beloved member of my house I vaccinated everyone and kept him

I followed the advice I found in a book called "the very healthy cat" book and started giving my cats Vitmain C. Six months later he tested negative. I believe it was the Vit C that did it (the book gives lots of examples) but lots of people try to tell me that my cat just fought off the disease - which does happen.

Your kitten might not even have felv. It might just have antibodies to it. There are more specific tests you can do to see. You could keep the kitten isolated while you run these tests and wait to see if he fights it off, etc.

If you have the resources, you can try to keep it. But it is hard both physically and emotionally on you.

Also if the kitten is showing any signs of illness, then it should be PTS.

I wish you luck, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Kitten Diagnosed With Feline Leukemia?

Why to euthanize when you can still give her supportive care to prolong her life? You will know when it's time to put her to sleep. I knew when my kitten could no longer use the litterbox because he couldn't walk anymore due to FIP ravaging his nervous system and was soiling himself, plus he didn't had a bowel movement for 3 days and bathing him again and again to ease his skin from the urine was out of the question because he is afraid of water and it would stress him out, so that's when it was time for me.

I don't know much about feline leukemia and i hope I never have to deal with it. My heart goes out to you. She'll be needing your love even if she is not responsive later on. Good luck
