Fuel Gauge Reading

How do you read a "clock gauge" on a fuel tank?

A clock gauge is exactly what it sounds like. The face is divided into 12 segments which represent inches and feet. The meter "hands" indicate product level. The short hand (hour hand) indicates feet and the big hand (minutes) indicates inches. So, a clock gauge reading 3:30 is actually 3 feet, 6 inches of product. The calculation of actual gallons would depend on the size of the tank.

Hope this helps.

Why is my fuel gauge reading wrong/incorrect?

A couple days ago, I went to the gas station to fill up. I have an 88 liter, 2005 GMC sierra truck. Upon arriving to the gas station, I noticed that the needle was just below a quarter of a tank. So I figured that I would need about 65 liters of fuel to fill the tank completely up. However, my truck only took a total of 38 litres to fill completely up.

*NOTE: When I filled up a couple days ago the gas gauge needle did move up to the full mark.

So as of right now, after driving a total of ONLY 150 km on my full tank of gas, my gas reading on my dashboard displays that my tank is slightly below half-full! AND earlier on today I start up my truck and a warning on the dashboard stated that I was low on fuel........Then, after a couple minutes of driving the needle 'creeped up' too just over the quarter line.

So why is my fuel gauge reading off?? Could my inaccurate gas reading perhaps be due to the cold weather? Since its been well below -20 degrees where I've been living for the last few days.

ANy ideas?

Fuel gauge always reads full?

The fuel gauge on my grandma's 2000 Buick Century always reads full.

The gauge has been broken for awhile now.

What do you think is wrong with it?

It has been driving fine before, but I'm afraid it doesn't have enough gas today (my fault, I didn't fill it up on my way home last night) - and it dies soon after start-up.

I'm going to go get some fuel in a gas tank and try to revive it, but how much should it cost to repair that broken fuel gauge?

Please and thank you :)

FUEL GAUGE reading "Empty" ALL THE TIME = Replace Fuel Pump?

To make it short:

2005 Mazda 3 engine 2.0L with 100k miles.

The fuel gauge on the dash reads "empty" ALWAYS, meaning that it doesnt matter if I fill up the whole tank with gas, it reads empty and the yellow "empty" light is ON.

Also, my Check Engine light is ON.

THE car uns fine, its just the gauge thats wrong.

Could it be the pump? Those pumps are expensive, and Im a student and Im looking for a "Do it yourself" procedure that will help me...

I poured a bottle of "chevron techron fuel system cleaner" but it doesnt work...I know some additives are a waste of money, but Ive read good reviews about techron and also Seafoam.

I checked fuses and are OK, relays too.

Please help guys!!!

My fuel gauge in my Dodge Neon isn't reading properly. What could be wrong?

could be the gauge or the fuel sending unit. id check for bad grounds too. does it bounce back in fourth depending on what road your on? if so then you know its the fuel sending unit in the fuel pump. if that's the case id just see how many miles you get till shes empty because you have to drop the whole tank to replace it

Why has no one invented a fuel gauge that shows the fuel reading in litres instead of an analog stick or digital bars?

Its not because of the corrupted petrol pumps, in fact most mordern cars show the available range based on the driving conditions and the no. of liters of fuel in the tank too.It is just more convenient to read and cheaper to install a traditional fuel guage, so most manufacturers opt them.

2000 impala fuel gauge reads wrong while driving?

P0463 stored in the pcm's memory. fuel level sensor circuit high voltage. i see this problem all the time, and it always takes a fuel level sender to fix. if you don't have an access hole in the trunk, the fuel tank will need to be dropped, the sender lock ring removed, and the pump module pulled out.

my advice to you (and you will thank me later) is to replace the fuel pump and the sender while it's out in your hand! that way you're not stuck on the side of the road calling a tow truck because your fuel pump just went out.

and please, for the love of all things sacred, keep matches, lighters, and fire, AWAY from your tank while performing repairs

2003 Chevy Venture Fuel Gauge problem saying low fuel and fluctuating.?

My fuel gauge in my 2003 Chevy Venture Van is acting up. It's actually been doing it for a couple years now. It started when we were driving across this farm field for an outdoor concert. It all the sudden showed the low fuel light and the gauge went all the way to empty, but the car still ran. My brother said he thought it was a switch under the car. My husband made sure this was sealed and the problem went away for a while, but would come back. So my husband would check that switch again. I don't know if the switch thing really is the problem though. He just made sure it was all sealed good and everything and it seems to be happening more often. It happened twice when I parked in my friends very slanted driveway. Sometimes it shows it has more fuel in it than it should and sometimes it goes to empty. It seems to do this more when I'm low on fuel. My husband thought maybe it had to do with a float in the tank, but I read something online about a sensor and someone actually ran out of gas with fuel in the tank. That has me freaked out now about driving it with this problem. Any thoughts or advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Gas fuel gauge reading inconsistent (rising and falling without reason)?

Today I and my passenger watched the fuel gauge fall from a 3/4 tank of gas to a half a tank and then slowly rise back up again while parked in a flat parking lot. I've felt as this has been going on for a while but no one else ever noticed so I thought maybe I was just wrong but today she saw the gauge needle actually rising also. What could be going on?

My car is an 2007 Toyota Camry Solara Coupe SLE with a 2.4L 4-CYL engine, auto transmission and 105,000 miles on it. I haven't had any major problems with this car besides having to replace the brakes and tires in August 2012.
