Full Proof First Day If School Plan Help

First day of school and I'm the teacher! Help!?

My first day of school is on Thursday and I'm so nervous. I was recently hired to teach high school Spanish. I have spent years preparing for this moment, but all I hear about is how hard the first year is. To be honest I'm completely freaked out right now! In preparation for the first week of school I have already made my syllabus for each course I teach. In addition to the syllabus I made a powerpoint highlighting the procedures of the classroom (how to enter/exit class, handle tardies, make up work etc.). Basically, the powerpoint highlights the differences between my class and others and outlines for the students exactly what I expect from them on a day to day basis. My question is how do I kick off the year? Does anyone have any ice breakers or ideas for getting to know the kids that are quick and won't take forever. We only have a half day the first day and I want to keep introductions short and sweet so I can go over the policies and procedures of the class.

My daughter's mother allowed her to miss 50 days of school!!!!?

Missing 50 days of school is totally unacceptable unless she has a doctor's verification that the child was too ill to attend. If that was the case, you should have been informed. I would contact your lawyer and get to the bottom of this. I am sure this information would be imperative if there is a custody battle going on. School may not be helping you because the child's mother has instructed them not to reveal any information to you. You need to find out about this, as well. Have your lawyer handle this information and bring it to the judge. If she is in the wrong, she will find out very quickly. Her actions could be jeopordizing her custody of your little girl and she needs to understand that. Children shouldn't be used as weapons against the non-custodial parent. It is unfair and makes so much stress in the life of a child who doesn't quite know how to handle it. She wants both of her parents and should not be put in this situation ever. I hope you have a good lawyer and a sensitive judge. Good luck to you.

Can my boss ask me to provide proof of my school schedule because I have to have fridays off for my classes?

It is important to remember that in principle, the terms and conditions of appointment for part time employees do not differ much from those of full time employees.

Presumably, you told your employer that you needed Fridays off for study. You boss took "your word" for it. This is a considerate decision.

Now your superior is asking for the school schedule. Studying is a private matter. But since you are working, the employer can ask for information needed for planning purposes.

Your boss may want to see whether you can perform some tasks on Friday if you are not occupied the whole day. He or she may have a plan to engage someone to take your place on Friday.

You may be able to refuse giving information on the schedule based on personal privacy legislation. Have it checked whether information on private study is covered under the the law in the state where you are residing/working.

By the way, your boss is free to draw his or her own conclusion and to act accordingly.

High School Questions?

I just came from your other question and figured I could help you out here as well.

1. My freshman year I had 6 classes: Honors English, Gym, AP Human Geography, Spanish, Honors Biology, and Art. It is different for every high school so I would as your parent or counselor. If you still don’t know you could call the school or check the school website.

2. Once again, it is different for every high school but we get out schedule about two weeks before school starts.

3. There (most likely) will not be a school supply list given to you. I would say one for each class you have, but smaller binders (possibly folders…?) for the smaller class you would take, like Guitar 1.

4. It is different for every high school but at my high school EVERYONE carries around their backpacks. If you can I would ask a friend who has an older sibling to see what it is at your high school.

5. AP Human Geography will be the hardest class you will take. If you plan to take the test, you have to learn all the material starting from day one. I would study everything as soon as you get it. I didn’t do this and was SUPER stressed when it came time for the AP testing in May. You will be tested on everything from August to May. As for Honors Geometry, pay attention in class. I am good at math, so this class wasn’t a problem for me. If you ask questions, do the homework, pay attention, and actually care about learning you’ll do fine.

6. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I can’t stress that enough. If you want a good GPA, you have to do the homework. As for projects, everyone procrastinates. If you care, you’ll stay up late and get the work done. If you don’t you’ll take the bad grade. What I do is find something I like to do while doing homework. I love listening to music, so I listen to music while doing homework. Others watch sports or TV. As long as you don’t get distracted this is a great way to be productive. If you do get distracted, leave your phone or whatever is distracting you in a different room.

Overall I would say do the readings, homework, and study. If you try, you will do fine. Join clubs and sports, this is how you will make your friends. Make the best of it and find out what you like.

I hope I helped and if you have any questions you can ask me or others around you.

Any advice for a first time substitute teacher?

I sub in Ohio.. here's how it goes: If you have a good teacher you're subbing for they will leave you detail plans for the day. Grade school teachers normally leave actual lessons... you have to read over the lesson & then teach it, collect the papers, helps the students... it's easy. Middle school sometimes you teach lessons, but most of the time the teachers give you busy work for the students. So bring a book b/c it gets pretty boring. HIgh school is the same way. You pretty much are there to make sure they're not buring the school down or anything. :)

It's not scary at all. Amazingly, the students really do follow the rules most of the time & don't give you too much of a hard time. Just remember- the second that they know that you're upset, mad, or bothered by them they WILL EAT YOU ALIVE! So just don't let stuff bother you. You're only there for one day (in most cases) so if they act up just get them to calm down. Lots of people who sub with me tell me they hate it & can't wait to teach... but there are many of us who really do enjoy it. Also, most people don't like to sub for the art classes, so if you do, you might find that they'll always use you for the art teachers. :) Good luck!!

ALSO... very important... remember to leave a note for the teacher!! Most of the time I make sure the students know that I leave a note & to be on their best behavior. I always leave a detailed list of what we did for the day. At the end of my note I say, "If you have any questions feel free to call me or email me", and leave both my cell phone # & email address. I frequently get emails thanking me for doing a good job. If you leave your information, then they will know that you did the best job you could. Some subs only sign their sloppy names & don't leave any contact info & that really bothers the teachers.

My boyfriend is planning on joining the army after high school and I want to find out more about the situation?

You should not worry too much. After Basic Training he will be assigned to an Army Base somewhere in the United States. After you are married, the two of you will then be eligible for BASE HOUSING. All U.S. Military Branches has facilities for Married Couples to live On Base in Family Housing.
You will see him every day.
If his unit gets Deployed to a Combat Zone, you will not be able to go with him.
BUT , There are no Wars going on except for Afghanistan, and that is winding down. We may send troops in to fight IS, but that has not been decided yet.

If your Husband to be gets orders (NOT a Deployment) to an overseas base, you will be able to go with him. The U.S. Army does have overseas bases, like in Germany. These Bases have Family Housing and American Schools ON BASE.
