Fun Stuff To Do On Car Trip

Why are road trips fun?

We have done 4 roadtrips in the US, approx 12,000 miles in total, east to west and up and down with a little bit of Canada as well. I love to see the variety from state to state, what people eat in the supermarket and the way they live which you can get a feel for off the interstates. Once we drove through a town in the mid west which was having a Norwegian festival, presumably originally settled by Norwegians! Like previous poster said, Serendipity. Also you get to see isolated but magnificent tourist attractions like Mount rushmore. This year, we are going to do a 1500 mile roadtrip in Spain and Portugal, from Madrid to lisbon, down south to the algarve and back via Seville and Granada to madrid. Looking forward to it!

What do you think about car trips? Are they fun to you?

Car trips are fun….. YES!!! for sure they are always fun to me. I love driving too…I would like to mestion this as one of my Road/Car trip experience to Matheran in Maharashtra. I have bought an Eon (a small car of 800 cc engine) and then in few months, I planned a surprise trip for my family to Visit Matheran. As I stay in Nasik, we started early morning at 6 am to Matheran which 170km from my place. We were four people for the trip and no one was aware about the destination. So first few kilometers were on highways then we entered into the ghat sections and the scenic beauty by the road was awesome and soothing to eyes. Then my family started guessing where we might be heading to, is it konkan or mumbai or and so on….. The weather was astonishing to us. As we were going towards Neral they got to know that we are going to Matheran. And my father was started worrying about the hill climbing and sharp turns that to with a small car Eon which I saw on his face clearly, but he didn't said anything. After drving for three hours with lighr music we reached to Neral a place at the base of Hill. After that we had to go to parking of Matheran which approximately 10 km from Neral, that was the best part of whole trip. The gradient was so stip that you have drive your car on 1st or 2nd gear which is even mentioned by road signs. The view was awesome, breathtaking and thrilling experience of driving. The hairpin turns, some bad patchws of road, less visibility on turns, etc. was not less than an adventure to us. As we were going up the hill my family members were little afraid that our car will make it or not…??? But we did it till the base parking hushhh….In whole trip the last 10 km were the most memorable for all of us. We all enjoyed the stay at Matheran and come back to home with visit to Ganesh temple in Titwala. My family was very happy with the surprise and it was an amazing experience….A view from hill…

What are fun things to do on a road trip?

This depends on if you are driving. If you are driving, I would just concentrate on that ;-)

However, if you are a passenger, there are lots of things you can do. Take a portable DVD player, watch some movies. Listen to music, radio, CD player, tape, MP3. Take a long some video games or electronic games. There are lots of varieties, see what interests you the most.

Get one of those laptop pillows. The bottom feels kind of like a bean bag, but the top is hard like a desk so you can work on it. Take color books (age?) crossword puzzels, word searches, sudoku puzzels, etc. Bring a long a couple of books to read. Take magazines, school work, etc. Go to the library or book store and look for roadtrip books. I used to have one when I was a kid that was so much fun. It was filled with fun activities and games to do while I a road trip. Search online, there are lots of activities recommended online that would be fun. Some favorites are license plate bingo (mark off license plates from different states as you pass them, first one to make a row wins). Play nature bingo, or street sign bingp (same rules as license plate, just with street signs or birds, grass, etc.) Play the alphabet game (Pick a subject, i.e. fruit and one person starts with the letter a they say apple, next person says apple and then something with a b, bannana. This keeps going on, as you miss a word you lose. Last person remaining wins.)

You can always take some food a long as well. Always good to keep you entertained. Take a camera or camcorder and record the trip as you go. It will bring back lots of memories later and you will be glad you did. Take a notebook and keep a journal of your vacation.

Bring along a travel book of your destination and plan some things to do while on your trip. Or look over what you are already planning to do.

I hope this gives you some ideas. There really are a lot of things you can do while on a road trip. Just a little creativity will take you a long way.

Fun things to do on a 4 day road trip?

Obviously listen to the radio or iPod make sure you bring your charger and you don't forget any of that.
Now I don't know what type of books you like but I am too a girly girl but I still LOVE magazines. Get a thick one like instyle, or one for your age like seventeen or teen vouge and just look at it. I love reading the hair stories, make up, whats in fashion for right now, heels, stars that sort of thing. If you read the articles and read it thoroughly it can take hours.
That's a great idea. I'm not a nerd and I know you're not either but rubix cubes can be fun. Their not expensive and it takes forever to solve.
If you love to draw I would bring a favorite magazine picture or scene and try to copy it and color it. It takes a long time to try and draw something
If you also like hair you can try and do hairstyles in the car. It can get fun. like learn how to do a fishtail braid or braid all your hair or do a fun ponytail.

For eating healthy try to stay away from pop. Lot's of people drink it on trips and its not good. Bring some water and mix in some crystal light or some fresh lemon into it. or mix some juice 50/50 (it can get too sugary)
Now for actual snacks, it can get also too really unhealthy, so you can make SORT of unhealthy snacks. Mix some pretzels, M&M's, and peanuts in one ziploc with some raisins too if you'd like and it gets tasty.
You can also snack on something that takes time to eat, like peeling an orange and taking it apart (you find that you eat less when it's hands on)
Fruit is a great way like someone mentioned above.
If you want a good way, salad is great. You don't have to make it boring. Add some chicken and veggies and even fruits and nuts. (California salads with strawberries/walnuts) Try to stay away from white dressings, fatty ones)
If not chicken is always healthier than beef remember that, fish is even better.
If you can get baked/grilled over fried thats great too!

A good way to fall asleep is try to meditate, try to close your eyes and just focus on listening to your heart beat and just clear your mind it'll help you relax and fall asleep
Just think about the long day ahead. Bring a pillow pet or those U shaped pillows to wrap around your neck. I know it gets very hard to sleep in cars - i've been there

What are some fun things to do on a 36 hour road trip?

From Anchorage, drive down the Seward Highway. It’s a National Scenic Byway and How Stuff Works has listed it as one of the “Top Ten Most Beautiful Drives in the United States”. Reaching the town of Seward, take a cruise boat out into Kenai Fjords National Park, and see the wonderful tidewater glaciers while they’re still there to see — and some fantastic marine wildlife along the way (be sure to have reservations). Driving down and back, watch for Dall Sheep, Bald Eagles, moose, etc. But if you stop to look, be sure to pull OFF the highway so you don’t block traffic for us jaded Alaskans who only want to get where we’re going.

What are some fun things to do on car trips besides staring at screens the whole time?

When I took car trips before screens we sang songs, played several games with car licenses finding the alphabet in order or giving Volkswagen cars numbers for the model. A convertible was 3 points. We made up stories that went with the signs along the way. They were hilarious. Wish I could remember more, as we had something going to keep us occupied.

Fun things to pass time on a road trip?

I am going to be going on a road trip as a fo 2 weeks, but the first two days are full days of driving. (i think like 14 hours the first day). So any ideas of good songs .. or things to do in the car for that long?

What to do in a 9 hour car ride?

Pack sensible car activities. If you are driving the long journey alone, bring along lots of music to make the drive worthwhile. You never know when you're going to hit a dead area with no radio reception, so it's good to have a case of CDs or your iPod handy. Also, books-on-tape are a great option for drivers hitting the open road solo. If you are a passenger, be sure to stock up on books, magazines, travel-sized games, Mad Libs and puzzle books. Make sure at least half of these activities will keep the driver entertained as well, since he or she will be likely to drift off if everyone else in the car is engrossed in a good book.

Step 2
Look up possible attractions to stop at along the way. Map out your journey via MapQuest or AAA, and look on a map to see what kinds of attractions you will pass along the way. You never know if you'll be passing by roadside attractions such as South of the Border or the World's Largest Ball of Twine. It's always a good idea to take breaks during long drives so everyone has a chance to stretch their legs, use the restroom or stock up on food, and being able to do so at a roadside attraction will make it twice as fun.

Step 3
Have snacks readily available. You never know where the next food location on the road is going to be, or what kinds of options it will have for you, so make sure to have easy-to-store snacks on-hand in the car.

Step 4
Look out the window. If you're traveling through different states, it can be interesting to see how the scenery changes as you pass over the border of each one. Try to take pictures of each "Welcome to" sign, to best document your travels. While checking out the scenery, don't discount the license plate game. It can be very hard to see a wide variety of license plates over the course of a long road trip, but when you get sightings of a good majority, it can be fun to see the differences in designs of each.

Step 5
Know your limits. If the driver or passengers are getting restless and sleepy, be sure to make an overnight stop so everyone can re-charge their batteries for a fresh start in the morning. It's not worth it to push an over-tired driver when there are lodging options available.
