Futuristic Bathroom Need Technology Geeks

Which fictional universe has the most realistic portrayal of the future?

I don’t think any do. I genuinely think that the future will be a combination of so utterly boring (as to make for terrible story telling) and incredibly frightening (due to how totally different it will be from us). It will remain “just like us” until it isn’t. After that point in time, it will be frighteningly different. There are shows that I love (The Expanse is the current one) that I think portray an interesting view of the future, but I also roll my eyes both at some of the details in the books and what’s posited in the TV series. I also make allowances for this because (a) I want to see humans interacting with humans and making drama and (b) I understand that without those adjustments to reality, none of the show would be possible. What are those things:Water and oxygen aren’t scarce in the Solar System. They’re not even potentially scarce for a system-wide species. Ceres ALONE has more fresh water than the Earth. And that’s one asteroid. Just one. There’s so much water in the Solar System that we’re awash in it.Converting water into air isn’t hard. It requires the Sun (solar panels) and water. That’s it. We’ve been pulling oxygen from water for decades. There’s little to no portrayal of automation, AI or hyper-advanced computer tech. I know the books do a better job of it, but I roll my eyes that humans are actually doing any kind of physical labor in the asteroid belt. Why?But it’s a fantastic show with amazing stories and essentially us, today, projected forward into the future with a new backdrop and nifty gadgets. That’s what good scifi does. It tells a socially relevant story to us now —the consumers of that product— with interesting technology and different settings.

What is a tech gadget that is relatively rare today but that most Americans will own within 20 years?

An electric car!The electric car is already feasible for the vast majority of consumers, most of whom can charge at home and who drive less than 100 miles a day.For long distance travel, charging networks are being built out at a furious pace. Many hotels already have Level 2 chargers for charging overnight and more and more vehicles will support Level 3 chargers to add 150–200 miles of range in 30 minutes or less.Electric cars need much less maintenance than ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles. They are roomy and quiet, with tons of storage space (smaller motor and no gas tank!) They are also much safer, with a lower center of gravity and computer controlled power to the wheels. Autonomous driving will become more and more mainstream, initially on highways but eventually on local roads as well. And if this is where EVs are now, imagine how much further along they will be in 20 years! Battery and charging technology is continuing to evolve; within 20 years, we could easily have vehicles with 500+ miles of range and the ability to fully recharge in 30 minutes or less, just enough time to stretch your legs, stop in the bathroom, and get a cup of coffee.

What are some interesting startups in India?

People in America and Europe have been pursuing Model Rocketry for last 30-40 years. However we have not seen that kind of trend in India, mainly because of lack of awareness among people about space science and ISRO. Only recently ISRO has come under limelight after successful Mars Orbiter Mission.Rocketeers is a team of model rocketry enthusiasts who aim to bring space and rocket science at school and college level in a novel way.Rocketeers conducts model rocketry workshop in academic institutes which consists of different sessions conducted by experts from Aerospace Industry. It is first time in India that someone is bringing solid motor fuel powered model rocketry at school and college level. There is theoretical session explaining basics of rocket science which is followed by rocket building session. They have developed model rocketry kit which allows you to make your own rocket which you can fly using a proper launch and safe electric remote ignition system which they provide. Apart from that they also allow students to design and build their own rockets and let them compete. Emphasis on creativity and understanding of concepts is given. The main aim of conducting this workshop is allowing students to learn concepts physics while practically experiencing them using rockets. Over 4,000 "installs" of sub dermal RFID chips have been implanted in people in Sweden. What do you think of this kind of technology?

Those people had the chips implanted of their own free will, it was their own choice. I presume the decision to implant the chip is mainly convenience - not having to carry a card with the same data on it.The technology is Near-Field-Communication, a passive technology (no battery included) with a limited read-range of up to 5 centimeters. The NFC chip has a 7-byte unique number and allows for 888 bits of data to be stored. The packaging of the chip is similar to those used for pets, but the technology included is not.Currently use cases are public transport, access control in offices and gyms, and cafetaria use. Although more applications are foreseen, it requires cooperation of the issuer of such cards and agreements with the company providing the RFID chips to agree use of the 888 bits of data and read and write keys. To get banks to cooperate so that you can leave your debit or credit card at home, is not easy. The amount of memory in the chip is also too limited to have it act as your ID card. So don’t leave that at home either. So I think use cases are limited at the moment. I’d rather carry a few extra cards, as I still have to carry my wallet for my bank, credit and ID card and drivers licence.Privacy concerns are not much of an issue for me given the limited read-range. The device will certainly not be transmitting your whereabouts, like your smartphone is.
