How do you sing high notes?

As Rob Kerr said, in the top of your range it will probably never be effortless same way as the most comfortable part of your range. You can learn to make them more consistent, and done in a healhy way without wrong kind of tension/strain, but singing the very top notes will always require concentration and muscle work. For some voices they come easier than others.Learning is a process, and there is no magic formula that can be put in a simple Quora answer. But I try to give some ideas. Some things to pay attention to:Good body connection, but without pushing. Mental images like thinking down when the melody goes up help some people. The key to good high notes is how you manage the upper passaggio (register change going to head voice). Work the upper middle range first. When you can sing those notes smoothly and freely, you can go up.You need to open up more resonance space (high wide soft palate, open throat) and open your jaw (it is individual how much depending on the anatomy)You can vocalize high notes in many ways. Try some sirening exercises (gliding up-down or down-up between registers)It is easier to start with arpeggios than singing scales at the top of your range (in the beginning the upward scales tighten up easily). Or jump to the high note from 4th/5th below. You can do short staccato notes first just to reach them and find out how it feels, because it is harder to sing them sustained. Some find it easier to sing exercises with high notes from up to down hitting that high note first and then going down, because they get tense when they go higher from their "comfort zone". Also when you go straight to that note after breathing, you can prepare the body for the high note and open up resonance spaces with the inhale. Partly it is also a mental thing. If you are afraid of the high notes, it can create some tension that sabotages them. Try to not make it a big deal if it fails in some of the first attempts, or the quality is not consistent for a while. When you practice your top notes, don't overdo it. It takes time that all the muscle coordination that is required starts to function more consistently. Better to rehearse a short while well focused than repeat wrong functions. When you have a big high note in the music you sing, the critical thing to succeed is how you prepare them: how you take breath before that phrase and how you sing the notes before the high one. Your thought will be some steps ahead of the music.

Why don't people pronounce the letter g in words ending with -ing?

Why don't people pronounce the letter g in words ending with -ing?Several answers have already addressed the tendency to make a substitution like runnin' for running, and I've already written an answer to a very similar question.  Heather Jedrus's answer to If you say pickin' instead of picking, how does that exactly change the pronunciation? But maybe this question is asking "Why don't I hear a nice, clear /g/ sound on the ends of words like sing and thing?"  And the answer to that question is that there isn't a /g/ sound on the ends of those words.  In English, we have a velar nasal sound, and it doesn't have its own letter.  The phonetic transcription is /ŋ/ and it is often, but not always, spelled with the letters "ng."  The letter "g" in this combination does not usually stand for a separate /g/ sound; it merely lets you know that the nasal is  /ŋ/ and not /n/.  Here are some words that contain the /ŋ/ sound:thinkthankthingsingfingerbankskunkfanghangWhen the "ng" letter combination is in the middle of the word, we sometimes do produce a /g/.  I hear a /g/ in the words finger, hunger, and anger, but not in singer or hanger.  This might not be the same in every dialect. When it's at the end of the word, we pronounce the /ŋ/, with no /g/ following it.  For the words ending in the letters "nk", we pronounce /ŋk/.  Why is /ŋk/ so much more common than /ŋg/?  I don't know.  But it seems to have something in common with words ending in "mp" and "mb."  We pronounce the /p/ in words like lamp and dump, but we have a "silent b" in lamb and dumb.  But when we have "mb" in the middle of a word, like crumble, slumber, or scramble, we do pronounce the /b/.  So that seems to be a pattern.  We can end a word with /m/ or /ŋ/ plus a voiceless plosive, but not with /m/ or /ŋ/ plus a voiced plosive.  But the /m/ or /ŋ/ plus a voiced plosive can occur in the middle of a word.It might just be a matter of the mechanics of speech.  When I try to add a /b/ or /g/ to the ends of words like lamb, dumb, sing, or thing, I seem to be unable to release that final /b/ or /g/ without adding a little vowel onto the end of it.  I can say the /p/ and /k/ sounds on lamp, dump, sink, and think with no difficulty.

What are Celine Dion's best songs?

I have to say first that Celine Dion is not a favorite vocalist. Her sound quality is very nasal, which I find disconcerting when I listen to her songs. However, songs are not loved just because of the artist who performs them, and I do have one of hers that is very special to me.This song came along at the end of a love affair and it was and still is quite meaningful and moving, each and every time I hear it. I had pictured this lover as permanently gone from my life, like a death. It was the only way I could get over it.Then he lost his father, whom I had known, and I attended his funeral, which of course opened those feelings up again. Long story short, we were able to salvage our very long term friendship from the ashes, though I would be lying if I said it was easy for me to put that genie back in the bottle. So, yeah, Celine was there for me with the right words when I needed her to be.

What are some famous Italian songs?

“Famous” depends on the audience. Evergreen for American tourists in Italy are “O sole mio” and “Volare”. Evergreen for Italians are the songs of Fabrizio De Andre' (sort of Jacques Brel, or Bob Dylan), including e.g. “La guerra di Piero” and “Il pescatore”. Every Italian is at least acquainted with the tune of romantic Claudio Baglioni's songs (“Piccolo grande amore”) and nostalgia-full Adriano Celentano's songs (“Il ragazzo della via Gluck”). Too bad, Americans don't know them…
