What weapons does a police officer normaly carry?

A lot depends on the laws of the state. Some states don't allow law enforcement personnel to carry TASERs. In that case, the police officers will probably carry mace or pepper spray instead. Some states have also outlawed the use of batons by law enforcement personnel.

Most police officers carry a semi-automatic pistol with two additional ammunition clips, mace or pepper spray, and at least one pair of handcuffs (many police officers carry two pairs). In states where batons are allowed, most (if not all) police officers also carry batons. In states where TASERs are allowed, roughly half of the police officers will carry them instead of mace or pepper spray. Also, many police officers carry an additional semi-automatic pistol in an ankle-holder.

P.S.: Police officers don't carry tear gas as a rule. The SWAT teams and riot squads have guns that launch tear gas canisters.

Is it legal to own a BB gun in California?

Ownership of a firearm in California is legal. Ownership of airguns is legal. Ownership of BB guns is legal. No question. You can own any of these projectile-launching weapons anywhere in California from the Mexican border to the Oregon border. No question. There are regulations about which ones you can own, but their ownership is absolutely legal. As to the specific one, it may require an orange tip on it.Finally, as to shooting it, here’s the law:246.3. (b) Except as otherwise authorized by law, any person who willfully discharges a BB device in a grossly negligent manner which could result in injury or death to a person is guilty of a public offense and shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year.(c) As used in this section, "BB device" means any instrument that expels a projectile, such as a BB or a pellet, through the force of air pressure, gas pressure, or spring action. What does that mean? Don’t try to shoot someone with it. Don’t use it in a stupid way. If shooting it in your home seems stupid, don’t do that. I could, however, set up a target in my garage and shoot at it to my heart’s content. I’m just on the hook if I injure someone. My only concern is that I don’t know if Tangfolio makes a real 1911.As to San Mateo County, I would call the sheriff’s department and ask if you’re really concerned, but no one outside of your home will know, so why bother?

What is the best way to inform a police officer I am carrying concealed when pulled over?

Do not say the word ‘Gun’.Put your hands in the 10 & 2′oclock positions on the steering wheel. If a passenger, place them flat on the dashboard. No matter what the police officer says to you as an opening remark, you respond with:Officer, before we start I want to let you know that I have a concealed carry permit. What are your instructions?Do not move, do not take your hands off the steering wheel. Wait for officer to respond.Follow any directions given to you by the officer slowly & meticulously.I have taught concealed carry to over a thousand students. I have been stopped twice: Both times for speeding. In each case the officer was nonchalant about it and just asked for my license and registration. In Ohio, the fact that you are a CCW carrier comes up on his screen when he runs your registration. Here is the thing, police I have talked with about this feel safer with a CCW stop than a regular stop. Why? Think about it. A CCW holder has had an extensive federal background check. CCW carriers are involved in extremely few crimes. You can’t ask for a safer person to pull over.Under NO circumstances are you to touch your firearm or even gesture to it unless SPECIFICALLY directed to do so. I have been told that they only ask to keep possession if there is reasonable chance you will be placed under arrest during the stop e.g. suspected drugs, DUI, warrants outstanding, etc.On a normal traffic stop, they’ll just give you a ticket or warning and send you on your way.If you recall recently a young man with a CCW permit was shot 3 times in the drivers seat of a car. His only mistake? He lifted his shirt to indicate to the officer where he was carrying. The cop saw a ‘gun’ and panicked.

Australian off duty police officers.?

Australian police not only cannot carry guns off duty but they do not carry their pepper gas or ASP outside of the station after going off duty.

Why? that is their law. Remember laws regarding the power and job of peace officers are governed by the individual states in the US. Most other countries the laws are Federal.
In fact the whole idea of carrying guns is kind of an American thing.

Very few countries allow off duty carry just because your an officer. Austria, Japan, Germany, Canada, UK (except Northern Ireland), France & Italy are just some.

In some cases off duty detectives are allowed to carry.

In most other countries they simply do not feel the need.

Even in the US more and more states and departments are urging not carrying if going out partying.
Almost all states now have written into their laws that an off duty must take "police action" when needed.
The courts have said that police action can be as little as being a good witness and calling 911.
