Gearing Related Problem

How can I determine if there's a problem in the gearbox of my motorcycle, and how could a problem potentially affect the performance of my bike?

The gear box of a bike is optimized to work in syncro with a certain gear at a certain RPM and at a particular speed.Simply put you have to be in the right speed to be in a certain gear.Try keeping your bike in stand still and try changinbg gear .You might hear a "CLUCK" sound when you shift from neutral to 1st and from 1st to  2nd but when doing so from 2nd to 3rd or for that matter to higher gears you ll not hear anything...."A dead gear"....Actually the gear are being put in place to engage with the propellor shaft from the engine...So technically only when you release the clutch you ll be able to engage them .As putting the gear in place only bring them close but to engage properly one has to release the clutch and try to make both of them rotate..So we cannot technically bring the gear down to 1st when we are in higher speeds. For example.U are in a 4th gear and crusing at 50 kmph and suddenly u have to break.U come to stand still. Now being at stand still if u try to shift down from 4th to 1st you ll encounte the problem i have described earlier.Solution Try to release clutch atleast for a brief moment or try to half release it (till u feel the gears are engaged..).So while coming from 4th to 1st try to release the clutch for a brief moment everytime u release the clutch..That ll solve the problem. As far as the performance is concerned u ll not face any problem as inorder to accelerate one has to go thriugh the gears step by step as each gear has a role to play at a certain speed and rpm (as every gear can only work for a brief speed and rpm)

My motorcycle is having gear shifting problem. It's not smooth, how do I fix it?

With due respect to all the people who have tried to answer and help, I have something different to say.Your question can not get a useful answer from Quora. What would be a useful answer? You have a problem with your motorcycle, you state it here, it is understood by someone who can help, then he answers, you act on that answer yourself and your problem is solved. The above will not happen because there is no (can not be) clarity in any of the steps. We do not even know how much you know about bikes, what bike it is, how old, whether some part is broken, what exactly is meant by not smooth…..So please go to a mechanic (preferably Authorised by the manufacturer) and show him the bike, he should be able to solve the problem. Here it can only be shooting in the dark.

Car won t accelerate in 5th gear.?

I just had my car serviced about 2 weeks ago, and this week I have noticed that the car when put into 5th gear won t accelerate. The gears work fine for 1st to 4th, but passing 140kms and switching to 5th, it won t budge. The RPMs drop from 3000-3500 to 2500 the moment I switch to 5th. The car is a VW Jetta 2012. I am going back to the mechanic to have it reviewed, but would like someone to give me an idea what it could be, to avoid being taking advantage of price wise. Thanks

Why Pulsar 150 CC Gear system is changed to 1 front and rest are back ?

There is No Mechanical or Technical reason why it must be either way.

It can be built ANY way and still be good.
2 front,rest back
3 front ,rest back
All front
All back

Any way is OK Mechanically.

It is hard for a person to get used to something different or new sometimes.
But soon you will be very comfortable with the new way.

Why they changed??
I Do Not Know for a fact.

Most motorcycles and scooters have Neutral between 1st gear and 2nd gear.

All Down is EASY to get into Neutral,I like it.

But for SAFETY the Design Engineers beleive that having a Gear at the Last Position is better than neutral.

If You have a Brake Failure,,or Downshifting to Stop,,,
to Panic and shift to Neutral is BAD.

So even if a rider Panics and shifts Too Many Times Downshift,,they still are in gear to help slow down

With Neutral at Bottom,,it is too easy to shift into Neutral and then the bike is just free wheeling.

Another thing to think about.

Most of the Engineers and Designers now are Younger People.

In Their lifetime most bikes have 1Front/rest back or 1 down /rest UP.

To them that is Normal and average,,so to them that is "Right" way.

Another thing is World Market.
The Manufacturers who build bikes are Now shipping them all over the world to new places they did not sell to in the past.

Most countries and most people are familiar with 1 Front type,or 1 Down type of Shifting.

So the Companies beleive that "BEST" is to sell in New Places what the People are accustomed to.

1 Down,,1 Front is like a Universal way that most people know.

So New Customers in most places can feel Familiar and Comfortable,,Right Away.

You see how YOU FEEL about the difference?
Everybody is that way---they feel BEST with what they already know.

When a New Brand or even just a new model is introduced,,The Maker wants people to Like it Right away.

Really there is No Right or Wrong way,,or Good or Bad Way.

All the Companies are trying to make products today which have GLOBAL appeal everywhere to most people.

I hope that makes sense.

And I hope You Enjoy your new Pulsar!
(When you get accustomed to the new change:)

Math Problem: Combination problem determining sequences?

If a "word" is interpreted to be a sequence of letters, how many eight-letter words with no repeated letters contain all five vowels? (Note that y is not considered a vowel).

Honestly, I'm not really sure where to begin with this one. To me, this seems like it is a combination vice a permutation because even though you cannot repeat vowels, there is no required order to place them.
