Geographic Tongue Questions

Geographic tongue?

Haha! Omg my mom used to tell me that when I was little, she used to say that she could tell when I was faking sick cuz when i was actually really sick my geographical tongue turned a whitish color...so I always had to stick my tongue out when I was trying to get out of school so she could see the color to see if I was being legit or not. I had forgot about that till now. But anyway, to the actual question.....no I dont think anyone can tell....or at least no one that I have ever kissed has said anything bad. My hubby hasnt ever told me that I have a "weird" tongue and he would have told me by now we have been together 10 years so we are pretty honest by now. So anyway I am thinkin no, noone can tell. Happy Kissing!!!!!

Information on geographic tongue?

my child is 3 years old and was just diagnosed with this geographic tongue disease and his doctor told me that I should not worry even though it can look scary. He said that it is a completely painless condition, but he could possible have it for the rest of his life. These lessions on his tongue will appear and once they start going away they simply pop up on a different spot on the tongue. I have researched everything that I can find for the past 3 days to find out more about this disease. People have said that it does bother them very much. One man said that it can get irritated and actually bleed. Another woman says that her 6 year old daughter will go 2-3 days without eating food because her mouth hurts so bad. I am also taking my son to a specialist because he has constantly been choking, almost like his throat is to small to swallow anything including liquid. If these lessions can migrate around his tongue who is to say that they can't move to his throat. The doctor also told me that if his tongue begins to swell, he begins talking like he has a lisp. or it is hard for him to pronounce his words like his tongue is not working fluently to immediatley bring him to the hospital, and to keep a close eye on him for the next week to watch and see if the lessions rise any. So I guess it is different to every person on how severe it can be. Ofcourse as a parent I am very concerned and will not stop until someone has answered my question to my satisfaction. So far I am not satisfied. Look on the web and visit these forum where other people talk about this disease which they have. They will tell you that it is not completely painless. Good luck to you and I hope that you do not have a problem with this condition.

Geographic tongue after dipping?

Geographic tongue is actually a harmless condition. There is not a lot known about the cause but many people have it with no complications. Geographic tongue can be irritated by hot or spicy foods and in some people alcohol. My best guess is that you already had this condition but in a mild form and that some additive in the tobacco irritated it and made it more pronounced.

As far as the sore on your lip, I think that is also from dipping. Oral cancer most commonly shows up on the sides of the tongue towards the back of the throat and on the floor of the mouth. While it can occur in other locations it is much less common. It the sore appears like a white patch or velvety red patch speckled with white then I would definitely get it checked ASAP. Otherwise keep and eye on it and if it doesn't heal in the next week or so or appears to get significantly worse then I would see the dentist.

*Interesting note* If you truly do have geographic tongue then you may see it more pronounced if you are starting to get sick from a cold or something. I have had a couple of my patients report that they known when they are about to get sick from their geographic tongue.

Geographic Tongue for two months?

Geographic tongue is non pathologic. dont bother going to your dentsit. What it is is there is a atrophy of papillae on your tongue. there is no known reason for it but there is some belief it may be due to certain chemicals (some of which may be in your toothpaste or mouthwash). but it doesnt do anything, it looks weird but quite honestly aside from appearances if wont do anything. your tastebuds grow back and it will never really affect your day to day life. there is no treatment for it . I suggest you look at your mouth rinse and toothpaste you might be having a reaction to either sodium lauryl sulphate, or triclosan which may contribute to it. no promises here. but if this is the case you could try another tooth paste like toms of maines ( a natural toothpaste) but other than that you'e fine dont worry about.

Geographic tongue from oral sex?

I went down on a girl a few months ago. Over the next couple days I got very sick and by the 3rd day I had bumps all over the front part of my tongue and white lines. My doctor said it was thrush but nothing he gave me worked. I did some more research and geographic tongue is identical to what I have. However, I haven't found anything about geographic tongue being related to an std but that's how i got it? or is it just an allergy that i don't need to be worried about because I have really bad allergies. The girl also claimed she was clean of any std's. Since then, I haven't been sick at all I just have swollen taste buds in the front part of my tongue and those snakey white lines. Also, is it contagious because I've been turning down a couple girls for just kissing because I don't want anyone else to get this but I really like one of them and would like to know if it's contagious or not or just any info.?? Thanks

You can. The risks are exactly the same as with any other piercing of the tongue. It may be irritated a few days, but it usually goes away pretty fast.
