Get A New Radiator Or A Junkyard One

Getting a radiator from a junk yard?

If it's at a place where they take them out in advance, they usually test them for leaks before selling them. Ask the junkyard if they check them. If it's a place where you pull it out yourself, then it's hard to be sure.

Check at a Radiator Repair shop too. They can be a lot cheaper than buying a new one, depending on where the leak is. They can replace the plastic tank, if it's leaking there. Check in the Yellow Pages, under "Radiator Repair".

Figure in the time and cost of driving too. Where I live, all the junkyards are way out in the boondocks. And with the cost of gas...

Tin foil radiator cap?

Yeah my old radiator cap does not fit my new radiator I have to wait for the new cap in the mail since I bought the new radiator online big fiasco anyways. How about using tin foil and a tie down or rubber bands as a temp cap? Think it will get me around?

How much to fix a radiator?

Cheapest would be to buy a piece of used crap from the junkyard. A new one from Autozone runs about $200. If the leak is a crack in the plastic tank, I had one of those replaced by a Radiator Repair shop for about $80 a couple years ago, albeit on a different vehicle.

Find where it's leaking from, and check your local Yellow Pages under "Radiator Repair", and they can probably give you a quote over the phone.

No matter which route you go, the radiator is gonna have to be removed and replaced, which is pretty easy to do yourself, and you'll need a gallon or two of Anti-freeze.

Would eggs damage a car radiator if you put 2 raw ones in as a temporary fix for a leak?

Anything that has the power to clog up a leak also has the power to clog up your radiator. At some point in your car’s lifetime you have to weigh the advantages of low-cost expedient fixes against the long-term harm done to your car by careless cures. When I was young, radiators were made of brass, and if one of the tubes got a leak you could just crimp the tube with vice-grips and your problem was over.Today radiators are made of plastic. If your leak is readily visible, you might try patching it from the outside with JB Weld.At my local junkyard, I can get a radiator for $52. Sometimes a junker car will have a brand new radiator.

Can I buy parts for a cracked head gasket at a junk yard?

no you need new gaskets you could buy a head if needed but you should have it rebuilt if you are changing the head gasket on a V6 V8 V10 you will have to replace the intake gasket and the exhaust gasket as well as the head gasket

How to fix a gash in the bottom of the radiator?

What reason did you junk your car? I go to the junkyard a lot and there seem to be a lot of cars there in decent shape.

See the above car?Four-door R33 Nissan Skyline. Was a nice car. See that stunning shoe on the left? That belongs to the car’s owner. He bought the car for £600 in the UK and used it for several months before the water pump expired. You might ask at this point: An R33 Skyline for £600 in the UK? Are you insane? How?”It was a 2.0 litre (RB20E), naturally aspirated, 4 speed auto. The Japanese equivalent of a basic BMW 318 saloon. While his intention was to spend money making it a sleeper car, with a larger RB with a turbo, manual gearbox and air suspension, we found it to be completely rotten underneath. When the rot was discovered my friend wanted to save it, but it sat for too long and got worse. A repair bill of £4000 for a car he picked up for £600 became unreasonable when he found and bought a very clean S13 shell with a roll cage about a month ago.The above picture was taken half an hour before the shell was taken away. At a glance, the car looks fine. But when you poke around in all the usual places, the car was getting quite bad.People scrap cars because the repair work is too much on the wallet for them (we could discuss the point of repairing a current car instead of spending money anyway to get a new car, but this is not how people think) and when a car has lost that much value, there is nowhere else for it to go.

Have you ever found anything of value at a junkyard/car lot?

Original question: Have you ever found anything of value at a junkyard/car lot?Not personally, never been that lucky, but I have seen what has to be one of the best junkyard finds in automotive history - a 1931 Bugatti Royale, one of only six ever built, that Charles Chayne purchased from a Bronx junkyard in 1943.I’ve read conflicting accounts of how much Mr. Chayne paid for the car, but four hundred dollars is a number that has been mentioned more than once.Charles Chayne was at the time the chief engineer for Buick, and he restored the car, with a few modifications, after the war. He drove the car for several years, then he and his wife donated it to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, where it has been on display since the 1950’s. By the way, it is in running condition, as are most of the machines in the museum. The original purchase price in 1931 was somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000. I was told by one of the museum staff that if the car were to be put up for auction today (highly unlikely, the car is one of the crown jewels of the museum’s collection) the starting bid would be in the millions. This has to rank as one of the greatest junkyard finds ever.
