Getting Back Into Elite Running Shape

Getting back into elite running shape?

I used to be a great runner: posting a 4:11 mile and 9:17 2mile in HS. I went to college for running and injured myself sophomore year. Since then I've been running here and there. The past year I've gotten married and my running regiment has gone out the window. I was 150lb and now I'm 175lb. I've never been the one to be out of shape and overweight but now I am.

Used to run around 90 miles a week for a good portion of the year during college but I want to get back into things. Anybody know of an article that helps good runners in the past get back into things? Or does anyone have a training regiment I can follow that adheres to my abilities?

Thank you.

How does running change a woman's body shape?

The thighs will get leaner and more muscular and the arms as well. The stomach will become smaller, but to get a really fit core you need to do some core work. My shape didn't change that much except it did make these changes I mentioned. If I was an elite runner (I wish lol) it would have gotten REALLY thin and muscular.

I wouldn't worry about how much your body changes; you will see some differences but you will like the differences. =)

Getting my quarter horse gelding back into shape?

I had a chubby quarter horse perch x and I cut down on grain (he only got a handful of pellets - better than grain) and a few flakes of hay. Increase his exercise - trails if you can hills hills and more hills. You can also get great results out of allot of trotting but always be sure that you do equal amounts both ways.

As far as flexibility take a carrot and while you groom him introduce the carrot to him at his shoulder and get him to flex his head back toward the shoulder do it slow and get him used to what you're asking for then increase the flexion until he touches his belly with his nose. Do this equally on both sides and make sure you reward him with the carrot. Also you can present the carrot between his front legs and get him to bend his neck to get the carrot. These exercises will take time for him to understand what you want but QH's are quite smart and he should have no problem learning this. If he tries to step back or forward then just yank the lead and tell him stand and keep trying to get him to flex and stand still. Once he does it reward then repeat for 2-3 times. Be sure to equal times on both sides.

If you are riding then you can also keep him at a stand and pull the rein toward you foot while keeping pressure on the opposite rein to keep him from moving - it's ok if at first he turns but you want to get him to stand and flex to optimize the exercise

What is the best way to stay in running shape without running?

Short answer: You can’t.Long answer: It is complicated. If your goal is speed, you are going to HAVE to run in order to maintain your speed and endurance at said speed. After all, if you don’t practice how will you get better? If your goal is to purely “stay in shape”, that is to say—to preserve your muscle, then I would do some form of mixed cross-fit with resistance training, as that will help preserve your muscles (stay in running shape) without running.Do everything with proper form though. I am assuming you are asking this question because you are injured. I’d like to believe you don’t want to injure yourself further!Obviously this is not perfect nor do I know everything about this. I am not a professional, but I do have 8 years of track and XC running under my belt so I’d like to think I know SOMETHING about this topic. Obviously I could be corrected. To stay in shape/preserve muscle WITHOUT weights I’d do calisthenics (push-ups, pull-ups, planks, any body-weight exercise really). As running is primarily cardio, you can even format your calisthenic exercises (unlike MOST weight exercises) to be cardio training!Running is a body exercise, and so are calisthenics—so I think it would make sense provided you do them correctly. The other easy answer? Like previously said— go for any other form of cardio. Swimming is one. Cardio machines are another (Low speed on treadmills, ellipticals, etc.).

Help running a sub 22s 200m and more!?

Any type of running schedule I can do for 6-8 weeks that can get me in shape and a schedule to help me go from my 23.5s 200m to a 22s or so, I wanna also do a sub 54s 400m, like around a 50s or so?
I was also thinking of doing a pentathlon or heptathlon as I used to do shotput and discus and I'm also a hurdler. Any schedules from pros or elite trainers to help with that aswell? My weakest on a pent would be the 110m hurdles as I have a 18s run through (bad knees takes me time to recover from coming back down) so any help with any of this would be greatly appreciated.

I run in running tights. Do you think they make me look gay?

No, the opposite. I think you are kind of hardcore. Anytime I see people geared up in elite gear or something similar to what you are wearing it's almost intimidating.

If you were at a road race and I saw you in those tights I would definitely think, "Ohh Crap, here's a fast one." Similar to the short shorts people always get made fun of for, I think they look elite and definitely shoes you are serious about running.

This opinion is coming from a guy as well. The person posting about wearing sweats obviously have not a clue what they are talking about. When I see people in sweats that aren't going to bed in them, these words come to mind; smelly, fat, lazy, cheap.

Can a 5'11 14 year old play running back?

Yes, a 14-year-old who is 5'11" can play running back. Based on your height and weight, as well as your ability to stiffarm and run well, I believe that you will make a very good fit as a running back. In fact, your size gives you the potential to become a very elite high school running back.

What you need to do during this next week is eat healthy, and exercise by doing a lot of running every day. I highly recommend a calorie intake of 1800-2200, and at least one hour of running, per day. If you do these two things, you will get into better shape, which will greatly improve your speed, as well as your chances of being successful in football this season.

How long does it take for an athletes body to get out of shape?

Based on my personal running experience, 2 weeks. This is not doing any physical activity whatsoever. To get back in shape, I feel that for everyday of inactivity, it takes around 2 days to retain that previous level of fitness. "After 10 to 14 days with little or no physical activity, the body’s ability to effectively consume and use oxygen, sometimes referred to as VO2 max, begins to decline (Washington Post)." It doesn't take much to stay in shape, once you are in shape. A little bit of fitness per day can keep you in good shape, even if you aren't doing as much fitness as before. If you don't want to worry about this problem though, don't stop exercising.

Question: Do bunions affect running or speed?

I have TERRIBLE feet. My right foot has a bunion while my left really doesn't. I'm hoping to become an Olympic runner, so does my foot problems end my dreams or do they not have an effect? Thanks!!

How long does it take to get into shape?

1 month is not a very long time. Be patient and keep practicing and running. My best advice would be to stop focusing on how you feel (this can be deceptive) and look to actual measurements (i.e. weight, body fat %, distance you are running, running pace). Using concrete measurements you know for sure that you are progressing and if you are not then you know you need to change something. Also set more concrete goals for yourself. "Being in shape" is very vague. Do some research and find out what a healthy weight for you would be, what is a reasonable pace you want to achieve, or some other goal (just make sure it is specific, measurable, and attainable).
