Getting Hit In The Face As Result A Broke Nose

I think I broke my nose?

A week ago I got hit in the face... I wear glasses and it was a downward hit to the right side of my face. The hit was so hard I lost vision it my right eye for about 30 seconds. It hurt when it happened but didn't after that. Now, a week later it hurts so bad I can't wear my glasses. There is a bump on the right side of my nose. Is it broken? If I go get it looked at will they do anything for it?

Can a punch in the nose result in a black eye?

Hi Susan. Thanks for the A2A.The short answer is “yes.”The longer answer is “yes, maybe.”I’m not a medical specialist, so I’d personally love to hear from one, but my understanding is that anything that causes heavy swelling around the eyes can cause a black eye. Allergies, a punch to the face… any of that. Many cases in boxing a punch to the nose actually impacts the entire brow (because of the size of the gloves - so it’s a punch “in the nose” but an impact to half the face. The vectors involved could quite a bit.

What causes you to bleed from the nose after getting a hit to the head?

This can be an innocent, non related nose bleed. But it can also be very serious sign of hemorrhage inside the head that comes out through the nose or ears. If that is the case, the hit to the head is usually strong, like a car accident or agression and it usually means you also have headache and visual/motor symptoms. This needs EMERGENT medical help. I don't think you would be on Quora asking questions if this was the case. It's also possible that you broke your nose. Is it swollen or deformed?

Is my nose broken? Help!?

On Saturday, I was in my rugby game, and I got hit in the face somehow during the game, I remember it happening and my eyes instantly watered up, I was blinded by how much they watered up, resulting in me missing a tackle. But more importantly I can't decide if I broke my nose. When I touch it It hurts, or to move it, or apply any pressure to it. It is not the bridge of my nose though, its the tip or front part of my nose. I can hardly breathe out of my left nostril, which is driving me insane. I can put my fingers in my nostrils and feel the little strip of cartilage that divides the nostrils is really uneven, which i believe is the cause of my not being about to breathe out of my left nostril. I don't have any bruising, just swelling, and pain. I don't really know if you can break cartilage, but it never hurts to ask. I just want to know if I need to get it reset in order to breathe out of it again, and if so, how does that work. Just let me know what you think and if you think its broken, just swollen, bruised so on, thanks guys.

Does my brother have a broken nose?

May be a good idea to get a professional opinion on the matter.
Personally speaking, I would not go to the hospital for something like that. The most they would be able to do (other than running a bunch of examinations and charging you a boat load of cash) is realign the nose, and then wait for it to heal on it's own. I would strongly encourage you to ice the area, to reduce inflammation, and try to avoid getting hit in the face for a little while. I have broken my nose before, and never had to do anything special. Healed up just fine for me.
Good luck.

How does a football (American football) player get a broken nose?

it could happen with someone getting their hand under there and hitting your nose but its more common to happen when a players helmet isnt tight enough and the impact of the collision can knock your helmet down on your face causing the forehead part of the helmet to slam down on your nose.

Why does it hurt so much when you get hit in the nose?

The nose’s internal structure is made of cartilage. Cartilage is relatively tough and flexible, but when it’s time to absorb intense blunt force, it doesn’t hold a candle to bone. Bone is strong and durable; there’s a reason there are various types of bone shells around your brain, around your spinal cord, around your heart and lungs. Therefore it is entirely possible to take a blow that would be absorbed by bone with only minimal, temporary surface damage (i.e. the skin covering the bone would be bruised, and small blood vessels broken), but that would deform, bend and crush cartilage, possibly doing permanent damage and breaking a variety of deeper, larger blood vessels. Now you may ask why are our noses made out of cartilage, since bone is so much tougher. Well, cartilage being flexible comes with its own set of advantages: depending on its shape, it can absorb some milder types of trauma better than a thin piece of bone can, and recover from it faster too. Maybe it can’t take a punch as well as, say, a shoulder blade can, but if you’re zoning out and walk into a door face first, yeah it’ll hurt, but you’re not as likely to end up in the hospital with a facial fracture needing to be set as you would be if your nose was entirely made out of bone.
