Getting In To The Corps At Texas A

How much of a better chance do you have getting into texas a&m if you want to join the corps of cadets?

They say you dont have any better chance, but it seems a person interested in the corps will get in over someone of the same qualification who does not.

Of course joining the corps of cadets will only help your chances so much

several factors go into getting accepted there.

A) SAT/ACT scores are huge
B) High school GPA is important but it really depends on the person reviewing your case here :( 3.5 at a competitive school is good but it can still be tough
C) involvement in your school and community, community being weighed more heavily than school activities
D)Race/Ethnicity
E)Parents income

While D and E are denied by the president and head staff, there are some very weird trends of some Ethnicites getting accepted over other much more qualified people of other Ethnicity

This is not exact but they all play into acceptance

Should i join the Corps of Cadets at Texas a&m?

You have to keep it that way as long as you are in the Corps of Cadets. If you just do the Corps, but not ROTC (they are two seperate but related things) then you can let it grow out once you graduate. If you join the Corps, but not ROTC, then you owe nothing to the Army. However, if you are in ROTC, then you are also in the Corps, and upon finishing ROTC, you wll be a military officer and have to keep your hair like that as long as you serve.

To be honest, if your haircut is going to be a big problem, then you should probably not join.

Info on the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M?

For the army scholarship, it is not that hard to get one as long as you don't have a criminal record, keep you grades up, and pass a p.t. test. Though it does take several months for the paper work to go through with medical and background checks. Sq. 18 is a transfer outfit and I know several people who have come fromt that outfit into B-2 and all are going into the the army. Yes it is generally looked down upon not to join as a freshman but as long as your squared away and high speed the transition should be easier. As for Rudders they start early in the fall and is open to anybody. As for hazing, it depends on what your definition is, but don't take it personally. B-2 is an all male outfit that is army oriented and highly regarded by ROTC. If there are any other questions my e-mail is Jah10217@sbcglobal.net

What are some tips for getting accepted into Texas A&M?

Spend the night with corps. This was a program that I'm not sure if they still offer. The basic idea is you spend an afternoon and night with an outfit in the corps. Given all other things being equal, listing that activity can help your application stand out.It is also a good way to get some insight into life on campus.

Is Texas A&M's Corps of Cadets program for the US citizens only? Can international students join?

Project GOGoogle a wonderful thing. It appears so.

Can you be in Texas A and M's ROTC without being in a corps of cadets?

No. The ROTC at A & M is the Corps of Cadets. You can be in the Corps of Cadets and not be under contract as a junior or a senior- a civilian Drill & Ceremonies ( D &C) cadet . Many D&C cadets are, however , frequently reserve enlisted personnel ; they are not participants in the ROTC program. Most common of the type is the US Marine pre-Commission program. But ROTC without the Corps? No “Pinks and Greens” dress uniform but merely the standard Army dress? Not be a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets while being schooled in officering? No way.Of that’s what you want, go to TCU.

Texas A&M corps of cadets/rotc question?

I think the corps is a little more intense than regular ROTC at another school. After all it is really a different organization that ROTC. You don't have to do ROTC in order to be in the Corps. I think it has to do with the pride that Aggies feel. They go to all the football games, midnight yells, they run an escort service on campus for people who have to walk across campus late at night. If you are in the band or have goals to become a yell leader then you won't have as much free time as you would at another school.

But the corps are your friends. I don't know very many people in the corps who spend time with someone outside the corps. Each year you get a little more and more freedom. College in general can make going home hard. If you are good at time management then you will find a way to go out or go home just as you would if you went to school somewhere else. If you aren't good at time management then going out will mean failing grades at any university.

A&M is an excellent school if you are looking to commission. In addition to making you an officer you will also create a network of connections. Aggies love aggies and there are a ton of Aggies in every branch of the military. That means when you are looking for help later as a 2nd LT you might very well run into some LT Col, Col, etc who would love to help you just because y'all went to the same school. This works well in the civilian world too.

Gary Job Corps In San Marcos Texas?

Let me compare apples to apples. My stepson went to Gary Job Corps 6 years ago. If you are a minority, you will get in, and fit in. If you are white, you will have to call your senator to get you into the place, because the admissions people seem to give preference to African Americans first, then Mexican Americans, and then whites only if there are no applicants from the first two categories. Once he did get in, he was scared to live on campus, because a lot of the youth there were very rough, and did not hide their hostility toward the whites.

I had an adult friend who had a degree in psychology - her goal was to work with troubled youth - and worked as a counselor there. She lasted about 5 months before she left to work for Texas Youth Commission, where she found the kids to be more willing to better themselves. She found the facilities at Gary to be dilapidated (even though there are youth attending that are working toward getting experience in building maintenance). Many people shared a barracks-style housing (12 people to a bay). A lot of people age out/drop out before completing. Stepson ended up finishing quickly, but found that he couldn't get a job without further training - Job Corps just wasn't enough.

My middle son goes to the Sedro Woolley Job Corps in northern Washington State. He has a room that he shares with two other people, and it resembles a college dorm. The demographics are very mixed (whites, blacks equally mixed - not a lot of Hispanics in that region to attend, though there are a few plus a few Native Americans). They cooperate. Racism isn't a problem. Not really even a blip on the radar. Facilities are top-notch. The culinary academy does the food prep most of the time, so they get good grub. Very few drop-outs, becasue they are selective as to who they admit They have set him up with an apprenticeship even though it will be several months before he finishes (he is becoming an electrician).

My advice? See if there is another Job Corps in Texas, or, since it's a federal program, see what you can do to get into another one outside of Texas. Ask what their completion rate is, and what their placement rate is for people that finish the program.

And, best of luck to you. Please pat yourself on the back for wanting to do something positive to advance yourself in this life!!!

What are some tips and hacks for incoming freshmen at Texas A&M?

Lots of good advice in here. My favorite advice is to make friends with upperclassmen, especially in your major. Not only can they help you with class work or give you old study material/books, they also might be a connection to a future job. Get started early with making connections. A&M has a friendly personality, take advantage of it.Additionally, don't be afraid to get help in classes. This isn't high school any more.If you are in the Corps, they will help you tremendously and you'll learn numerous life skills, my favorite being to not take things personally.Get involved. Make it light your first semester as you are getting used to college but make a difference. Don't graduate with just a degree. Graduate with friends, a resume, and the experience of a lifetime. There are over 1000 student organizations.Don't forget to have fun as that is very important...but don't be one of those party every other day people…. you won't do well.Go to FISH camp!Get out there and make the most of it. And ask Ags for help, we tend to love to talk to other Ags. You're welcome to message me any time. Thanks and Gig Em.
