I am planning on getting married to a Canadian citizen here in Texas. Is there anything we need to have to get married?

John Foote makes some good points in his answer, points that, truthfully speaking, any couple should consider before getting married. If your soon-to-be-spouse is already legally in the United States, my understanding—although you would likely want to confirm with an immigration specialist—is that you don’t need to do anything other than get a marriage license from the Texas county in which you intend to be married and then hold a legal ceremony of marriage. If, however, your spouse-to-be is currently in Canada, then you would need to obtain a K-1 (fiance) visa, which allows your fiance(e) to come to the United States for a period of 90 days to be married (you would still need to comply with the Texas procedures above), after which you can apply to have your Canadian spouse’s immigration status adjusted. Congratulations and good luck!

Question about getting married in a state you don't live in?

Ok here is my story, My fiancee and I are trying to put together a small, very simple wedding. We were planning on doing something in the next couple of months, We live in Rhode Island (where I am from) but he is from Texas and can't get his mother and sister here for it. So as much as I would like to have my friends and family there for it they can see us anytime they want, so I was kinda thinking about moving the wedding to Texas, and maybe just bringing my mother with us. That way his friends and family that we don't see very often can be there..... So my question is other than how difficult it will be to plan, are there any complications with getting married in a state you don't live in? Any legality's I should know about? Thanks in advance. Lindsey
