Do they take your braces off when your getting impressions for your retainer?
Hmmm... I also remember when I had to get impressions for my retainer (I still have the cement molds of my teeth in case I ever need a new retainer so I don't have to go through the awful process again,lol). I specifically remember that my dentist took off my braces first and then took the impressions, which scared me to death because my teeth felt so loose that I thought the cement would pull them all out! My dentist was able to give me my retainer within a few days. However in your case, it seems like he/she wants to do the impressions before removing your braces so you'll have your retainer to wear as soon as you get them taken off. I don't think it matters whether or not your braces are on when you get the impressions because in the end, the plastic retainer is just a mold of the roof of your mouth & the lining of the back of your teeth, not the front. I can see why they might wait to take the impressions, since cleaning off the cement from around the braces sounds rather messy and tedious. The wire on the retainer will be adjusted on the day your braces are taken off so it fits securely. Hang in there - your braces will be off before you know it! Hope this helps! :)
Will new hawley retainers and impression get my teeth back to original bite?
Let me explain you my situation. I lost my retainers and notice my teeth do not come contact with each other anymore. I feel my bite is different. i believe my teeth must have shifted a little, so i went to my orthodontist to get new retainers. He checked my bite and did not see any difference in my bite. I was like, what?! No way, I can feel my molars do not meet each others like they used to before I lost my retainers. My orthodontist was like, okay you 'd need to get your teeth x-ray and new impressions to get new retainers. Now the question is : Will my new impression get my teeth back to my old original perfect bite like I had before because right now my bite is not aligned. How is it possible for my new future retainers to correct my bite if impressions that get my aligned bite? I mean, I am not sure how my new retainers will fix my off bite to make it right again? Thanks.
What exactly happens when you are getting impressions for retainers when you have braces?
Impressions is basically Dentist Language for taking a mold of ur teeth. They took impressions for my retainers after i got my braces off. I have the clear plastic retainers, that look like invisalign. But i hate getting impressions cause the mixture tastes nasty and it kinda feels like its going down your throat lol.
Can an orthodontist make a new retainer by using the old one?
I want a new retainer because the one I have is getting worn out and my teeth have shifted. Is it possible to make a new retainer without taking a mold of my teeth the way they are now?

I lost my retainer!?
Alright well I got my retainers thrown away from a maid in a hotel far from where I live. Long story short my dad called the orthodontist to see when we could schedule the new impressions. The last time I wore it was 6 days ago... and I have to wait 3 more days until I get new ones. My question is when they take new impressions, will the retainer be as crooked as my teeth are going to be? Or are they going to adjust it so it's somewhat aligned? I dont want to get crooked retainers that just makes it pointless.

im going to get my braces removed and im going to get my new impression for my retainer on thursday, and i was wondering if i can get a tooth gem after my impression, as the retainer will be fitting to my teeth an wont have room for a tooth gem?
