Getting Wisdom Teeth Removed Next Thursday

Is it normal to have some pain 5 days after getting wisdom teeth removed?

I had one of my wisdom teeth extracted (bottom left) exactly 19 days ago. I was injected with anaesthesia a few moments before the extraction. My jaw, lips and tongue went numb and I felt no pain during the extraction. I was asked to bite firmly on a gauze to stop the bleeding. Then I went home.About two hours later, I started to feel gradually increasing levels of pain and discomfort. Of course, the dentist prescribed painkillers and antibiotics for me to use thrice a day which continually brought down the pain (the pain kept coming up every 6~8 hours). I was also asked to “rinse” the cavity with warm saline water.Over the next 48 hours, the pain felt less and less intense, with the help of the painkillers. By the third day, there was hardly any more pain, only a very slight strangeness of feeling with my tongue that a tooth was missing.I stopped the painkillers completely on the fourth day and there was no pain anymore. I still continued with the warm saline water rinse for over one week; this greatly helps with the healing process. If by the fifth day, there's still some pain that you still have to use painkillers, I don't think it's normal; you may need to contact your dentist.

Does getting your wisdom teeth removed hurt?

i had mine out, the removal doesnt hurt at all, they put you to sleep. You will wake up with your mouth numb, it'll wear off in an hour or so, and then the pain will start. It gets really bad, but they perscribe a few different pain meds for different pain levels. Depending on how old you are it hurts more, as you get older. a week or so and the pain goes away, but the stiches holding the gums together are still sensitive for a while. You'll live, get some jello, mashed potatoes, and some good movies and TV shows, you'll be ok. But you wont wanna do much else.

Getting wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday, driving?

I am going to get two wisdom teeth pulled on Thursday.

I have absolutely nobody that can take me to and from the appointment (taking a cab would be almost $85 that I don't have and the bus doesn't go in my dentist's area), so I'm going to have to drive myself.
I know that they said I can't drive if I am sedated so I'm going to opt out of that. I don't want anything that will have them not let me drive.

Is there anything they can use to completely numb the pain (I don't take pain well!) that will still let me drive?
And will they still let me drive?

Also, this has to be taken care of now because I'm moving out of state next Tuesday and the wisdom teeth pain is unbearable. Also, my insurance runs out in about a month so I can't wait until 'later' or see a dentist that's in the state I'm moving to.

If you've had any experience with this, was the pain or swelling almost gone within four or five days?

I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out and I'm scared?

As I have had all my wisdom teeth out (seperately) I consider myself a somewhat expert!
When you wake from surgery you can expect a bit of nausea from the anethesia, and a definite swollen mouth and a taste of bllod still in your mouth.
Once the anethetic has worn off you will have pain from the extraction and more so if they had to go through bone to get to them ( i did).
They will prescribe you painkillers, and these will most likely be codeine based with a bit of sedative so you will sleep a lot.
as they will advise you to only rinse with warm salty water for a few days your breath may smell from the stale blood but this goes away.
Your face will swell most likely, and if like me have facial bruising that goes away on its own.
I ate jelly, mousse, and mashed potato. Some times I had a frozen iceblock too. Keep up your fluid intake as much as possible so you don't get constipated from the painkillers and use a straw if the corners of your mouth where streched during surgery and they have cracked and become painful.
For general comfort i bought a ice pack you put in the fridge to rest on my face where it throbs or aches. These can be bought from chemist.
I tended to avoid hot soup , coffee and tea for a few days as the heat sometimes hurt the site of surgery.
as you will most likely feel like sleeping the first couple days see if you can get a eyemask to block out the daylight and a pair of earplugs to block out noise particulary if you live on a busy street or have a big family.
lastly your dentist will tell you to wacth out for signs of infection and what to do should this occur- i.e go to dentist or he may have already put you on antibiotics anyway for this purpose.
lastly if your stiches are dissolvable you may not have to get hem checked but if they are or aren't you will have a foolowup check. And yes bacon will be your friend agin as soon as you can chew and swallow comfortably. YOU'LL BE OK!

Has anyone had their top and bottom wisdom teeth removed??

Whether your wisdom tooth removal will be painless or not depends on whether you'll be on general or local anaesthesia. It took me around 3-4 days for the swelling to go down, I had 7 teeth removed in total (third and second molar, both sides top and bottom) with general anaesthesia.

When I woke up (which felt like only a second after the anesthetists told me to count backwards, I think I got to 8 and felt I woke up at 7... which is really 3 hours later) they gave some water, small ice packs, jello and lots of ice cream to eat :P. Then they send me home with some more small ice packs, some sterile gauze, pain killers, and some tablets that supposed to help my gum heal properly. They also told me to buy a bottle of Flourinse (Flouride mouth rinse). I bought the Flourinse at the chemist, along with a couple of those gel packs (http://www.sportstek.net/cold_gel.html) that you put into the freezer (to use when the ice pack they've given me ran out).

The first few days you eat soup, soft things that you can mash with your tongue. I bought some small packets of jello, pumpkin soup, rice pudding, oatmeal, yoghurt, rice (to make congee/porridge), etc. The pain killer will make you feel sleepy, so you're most likely won't feel too hungry. You'll also notice your mouth will bleed quite a bit, just bite down on the gauze or change it if it gets too much. Keep the ice pack in place, it will help your swelling to go down faster.

My cheeks didn't puff up too much, I think it's because I've been on ice packs almost the whole time. I notice my other friends who's on ice pack immediately after any extraction procedure tend not to have a lot of swelling.

You know, after writing all this, I remember my dentist also gave me some pamphlets to read so I thought I can find something similar online. Post one that I find might be useful for you.

How long after I had my wisdom teeth removed can I smoke my vape?

As everyone's pointed out with the exception of a few people who have never had dry socket, vaping isn’t the problem. If you’re going to vape, and your tank doesn’t offer much, if any resistance an you are super confident that the blood clots that have developed are going to not dislodge, I personally don’t think you’ll have any adverse affects regarding the healing of your mouth and jaw. I am also not a doctor, and have not attempted it.All that being said, I have had one relevant experience regarding this.I had my wisdom teeth removed a little more than a decade ago. I was a smoker at the time, and thought for all intents and purposes I was indestructible.Doc said don’t smoke, I essentially said F* You, I’ll do what I want, and went outside and had a smoke before my ride home. I was fine, all the anesthetic had not worn off, and I continued to smoke for the rest of the day then the following morning. It was about lunch time, and I was having some soup for brunch (sleeping in on painkillers) , while taking a sip I instantly experienced the worst pain of my life. I’m assuming that the clot was not seated well because I was not following guidance, and I swallowed it while taking a sip of my soup and soup filled the cavity where my tooth once was.I spent the next 3 days, in the fetal position, crying like a little fucking child. Mind you, I was billy bad ass, mid 20’s, and had what I would consider to be a high tolerance to pain. I was reduced to an infant. The pain from dry socket is so intense, and nothing stops it.I eventually had a screw inserted with some packing for my jaw to heal correctly, and it set me back about 1500 bucks. If ANYTHING, just let it heal first to save money! Save the cost of that return dentist visit to get s jewel encrusted infinity mod. That's what I would do.Best of luck!

What is the percentage of people that get their wisdom teeth removed? Dent de sagesse

Many people that come through a dentists office have their wisdom teeth removed. It's been speculated that wisdom teeth, or the third molars, have become obsolete and that the human mouth has become too small to support all 32 teeth, with the high numbers of impactions and crowding caused by the wisdom teeth in dental patients. Even those whose wisdom teeth grow in without any issues find that these teeth have a high chance of disease and cavities that cause the teeth to need to be removed at some point in the future. Many dentists have actually begun removing wisdom teeth as a routine procedure due to the high rate of retained wisdom teeth needed to be extracted within the next 7 seven years.Actual numbers on how many people get their wisdom teeth removed have been hard to come by, with even the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons not coming up with any concrete numbers, but estimates range between 60 and 85% of people having one or more wisdom teeth removed, and up to 80% of those who initially retain their wisdom teeth needing to have them removed at a later time.
