Ghostly Mary Kings Close Tour In Edinburgh. Picture Included

Haunted advice for Edinburgh?

You'd be better phoning the hotel ahead than asking on arrival - they'll have a room allocated for you already, and turfing that nice family from Portugal out of the most haunted room isn't going to happen.

Having grown up in the city and heard multiple ghost stories, I've never heard of this hotel being haunted - and the tale mentioned in the blog has been told about so many buildings in the city. This hotel was only built in 1990 for one thing.

If you like that sort of thing, this is a link to a historic tour company very close to the hotel - personally I find the exaggeration of the stories to be a complete turn off.

Enjoy the visit to Edinburgh, but don't get your hopes up for ghostly encounter.

If the French monarchy had never been abolished, who would be the current king/queen?

There are at least 3 different claimants to be the pretender of the french throne ever since french republic was formed until the modern day. The first and foremost royal house would be the bourbons which had its ancestry tied to the first capetian dynasty of France from its beginnigs as a small mayor in Paris since medieval times. The current pretender to house of bourbon is Louis Alphonse, Duke of Anjou. He can traced his lineage back to Philip V of Spain, grandson to King Louis XIV of France. He would become King Louis XX if France was again a kingdom. The second claimant is from the house of Orléans. Orléanist were a branch of the house of Bourbons who can traced their ancestry back to King Louis XIII of France. During the french revolution of 1789, then duke of Orléans, Louis Phillipe Joseph wanted to inherit the french throne from the bourbons therefore elected himself as Phillipe Égalité in order to gain support from the revolutionalist but later guillotined. Later in 1830, Louis Phillipe I was selected as a constitutional monarch but forced to be abdicated. The current pretender is Henri d'Orléans, Count of Paris. The third claimant is from the houde of Bonaparte. Napoléon Bonaparte declared himself as the emperor of the french after the battle of Austerlitz and was forced to relinquished his title after the battle of Waterloo. Napoleon III regained the emperor title after he established the second french empire but lost it again after the battle of Sedan. The current pretender is Jean Christophe Prince Napoléon.

What are some dark secrets about the British royal family?

In the past, the “royal” family is marked by incest. Even today, Elizabeth II and her husband Philip are 3rd cousins… many would dub this as not being closely related, but it’s still a hell of a lot closer than the average couple! The practice of “keeping it in the family” has been a long standing tradition of the family for centuries.Louis Frederick (Prince of Wales), and his 5x great-grandson Freddie Windsor. Many of them even married their 1st cousin, including Queen Victoria:And the Prince John that is mentioned in Justin’s answer? His parents were 2nd cousins. Nobody deserves to be called royal because they’re no more physically nor mentally superior to the average joe that passes you on the street; they’re completely average when you strip away the grandeur. However—if there’s a family of people least deserving of this title, it’s the one whose genetic heritage is inferior to the average person’s. Anyway, I digress. The other dark secret that springs in my mind is the Charles-Camilla affair. Charles had no respect for Diana and was cheating on her long before they were even married. Despite this philandering and ungodly attitude, Elizabeth herself was very nonchalant about it and showed no support for her daughter-in-law… not even a speck of sympathy. After all, he could never be anything less than perfect in mumsy’s eyes, no matter how despicable his behaviour was.
