Give Them Hearts If Not Give Me Tongues

Do all Christians have the gift to speak in tongues?

That’s an excellent question, and the answer is no.I do believe that God gives each of the gifts when they are needed, and that at any point, if required, God may give any gift to any person for the benefit of the church, although some people seem to function in a long term way in one gifting or another primarily. There are some church groups who believe that if a person doesn’t speak in tongues then they are not saved. This teaching denies God’s power and capacity, since He Himself says that Hegives gifts to whomever He chooses. The bible clearly teaches that the truest sign of discipleship is an increase in love. Paul also says, to the church, that he wishes all spoke in tongues, indicating that some of the Christians he was writing to did not. (But also indicating that the gifting is desireable).Jesus did not ever say that discipleship required tongues. He said that discipleship required us to each remain in him, and to allow him to remain in us. He commanded us to love as he loves; ie freely and sacrificially.Tongues are a wonderful gift. Tongues may open up a word for a non Christian by allowing them to hear the Word in their native language. Tongues may provide an avenue for prophecy or encouragement for the church. Tongues allow the Holy Spirit to pray through our hearts. I was very sceptical of tongues for a long time, until I felt the love of God pour out on me as my husband prayed in tongues (and not even over me) at church. But Paul tells us that prophecy is more desirable, and that Love is the thing we should strive for and underpin all things with.I believe that if we are seeking after Jesus and seeking to grow in love, God will pour out any gift that we and the church (whether they are realised as the church yet or not) around us require.Paul says that we are to eagerly desire the gifts. Jesus says that God would never withhold the Holy Spirit from a child who asks for Him. But following Jesus way means that our goal should be to desire the gifts for the benefit of the Body and the Glory of God’s Name, not for our own status or power or feelings of validation. Jesus also said that He only did what He saw His Father doing. In desiring and asking for a gift my best advice to a Christian would be to ask God what He is doing around you at the moment, and what He wants to use you to do, then ask for whatever is needed to do that - that’s asking in His name, which is really also asking according to His nature.

I love Hot Tamale candy, but my tongue doesn't. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

You're burning your taste buds. Hot Tamale candy is made with cinnamon oil, which is where the yummy cinnamon taste comes from. The cinnamon oil in your Hot Tamales is quit literally burning the skin on your tongue.

The same thing is happening with your sour candy habit. Sour candy is made sour by adding citric acid which also strips the skin off of your tongue. You really need to take some time to let your taste buds heal, you can do perminate damage to them.

Can someone be a prayer warrior even if they only pray in tongues?

What is meant by “the tongue is a two-edged sword” in the Bible?

The word tongue is found about 50 times in the bible. It can mean the language of particular group of people; like Greek or Hebrew. It can also mean the words that a person utters. In the bible there are phrases like: lying tongue, slow of tongue, deceitful tongue, etc.I searched five different translations of the bible and cannot find any mention of the tongue being a two-edged sword. It does come close though, as this verse shows:“Thoughtless speech is like the stabs of a sword, But the tongue of the wise is a healing” Proverbs 12:18The words people sometimes use are very cutting to the person they are directed at. Sharp criticism from the tongue can be very damaging to children. The bible acknowledges how difficult it can be to controll the tongue, but a Christian must do his best as James points out here:“but the tongue no human being can subdue, unquiet evil that it is, full of death-dealing venom. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God: 10 out of the same mouth come blessing and curse; my brothers, these things ought not to be so done.” James 3:9,10 Byington translationThe tongue can be like a two-edged sword when words are hurtful, degrading, dishonest, or slanderous. A two-edged sword cuts both ways and the swordsmen of bible times kept them very sharp. So even though the bible does not call the tongue a two-edged sword, it can certainly be just a cutting as one.I think the bible verse you have in mind might be this one. Its not talking about the tongue being a two-edged sword, rather the word of God is:“For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints from the marrow, and is able to discern thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

Do Pentecostals BELIEVE that people who CAN'T speak in tongues don't go to heaven? (Read below please)?

Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of one receiving the Holy Spirit. Tongues by themselves never saved anyone. It is the Spirit that saves, but when we see people receive the Spirit in the Bible, they do speak in tongues. This is kind of like the analogy, "Where there's smoke, there's fire." It is the fire that burns down the house, not the smoke. But when we are three blocks away we know that a house is burning because we see the smoke. So it is with the Spirit and tongues. It is the Spirit which saves, not tongues. But when we receive the Spirit we do speak in other tongues.

Why does my tongue hurt (feels like some taste buds got cut) and even bleeds (in tiny spots at positions where taste buds are located) after eating candies and other sweet stuff?

Hi Greg Smith,Thank you for your question.Tongue pain may be caused by: a viral infection – such as an infection that causes hand, foot and mouth disease or cold sores [Herpes Virus]. Behçet's disease – a rare condition that causes inflammation of the blood-vessels and can also lead to painful mouth ulcers.Bleeding from the tongue can be caused by malformations of blood vessels, called hemangiomas. It also can happen because of lymph system abnormalities, such as lymphangiomas and cystic hygromas. These conditions are often found on the head and neck — and in the mouth.Instead of looking at the immediate symptoms and ways to cure just symptoms, lets look at the underlying issue here.Words like infection, inflammation, virus, lymph system, it looks to me that there is an issue within the immune system, perhaps more importantly the immune system has been compromised.A parasite infection: Leishmaniasis: Patients with leishmaniasis typically develop skin sores weeks to months after the parasite enters the body. The skin may become red, ulcerated, or have lesions, blisters, or pimples. Smaller lesions may be present around one larger ulcer. Some patients may develop a stuffy or runny nose, nosebleeds, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, as well as ulcers and sores in the mouth, tongue, gums, lips, nose, and the wall that separates the nostrils (called the nasal septum). The parasite may also enter the bloodstream and burrow into internal organs. If internal organs are involved, symptoms may include persistent fever, night sweats, fatigue, weakness, appetite loss, weight loss, vomiting (most common in children), abdominal pain, scaly skin, grey or dark skin, and thinning hair. Why I mention a parasitic infection, is because you have mentioned that the condition and symptoms seem to get worse upon eating candies and sweet-stuffs, the optimal food choice for both parasites and fungi, enabling them to further modulate the immune system and worsen any conditions you may have in their attempt to grow, spread and survive. My advise to you at this time, would be to cut out the sweets and candies for a week, see if the symptoms worsen or improve. Then you may know what you are dealing with. Give me an email and let me know who you are getting on.Hope that helps,If you liked the response please up-vote and follow,R.
