What ASVAB score do I need for USMC MOS 5811?
I'm looking at the about.com web page and it says I need a GT score of 100 or higher- what the heck does that mean? I just took a practice ASVAB from McGraw-Hill's study book, just want to get an idea of where i am. There were 200 questions, I got 145 right (I know thats awful but I havent even thought about this stuff for 5 years, ill study!) It was split up into sections and all that, so are they talking about certian sections of the test adding up to 100 or the whole test or what? I'm confused... any help is appriciated! Thanks :) here is the web page im looking at http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/5811new.htm
What jobs can you get of you score a 40 on the asvab for the army?
Your percentile (the 40% you are thinking about) is only part of your score. You also have line scores. These are aptitude scores as opposed your percentile which is passed more on your academic knowledge. This is an over simplification but hopefully helps you understand things. You aptitude or line score are for the most part what will dictate what jobs you qualify for.
Has the United States Army lowered its ASVAB scores from 31 to 21?
These lower of scores was only allowed one time while I was on recruiting. It’s was a “take it or leave it” type job offering for people who would other wise remain disqualified. This does not mean they will be able to reenlist. There is typically a requirement to have over 100 for your GT. See, when you take the ASVAB and hear that score, once you get to basic that score won’t matter anymore. There are line scores and the most important becomes your GT score which has nothing to do with your ASVAB score. The ASVAB score dropped from the 31 to 27 for 2 months when I was recruiting. I had only one person who fit into that with a 29 ASVAB. He did not make it through Basic training. His MOS was going to be Artillery. It was the only job offered to him. Not saying that Artillery is filled with guys who are dumb, stupid, or not smart. It was just were the Army needed people to make the numbers up of losing people who were getting out. It was the end of the fiscal year and recruiting requirements for mission. Each of the services will do this over time in the future also if needed.
Is an ASVAB score of 75 any good?
75 is excellent. It is above average and should earn you a good MOS.
I scored a 69 on my ASVAB, is that pretty good?
That is a fair score, far above average, but not excellent. You are in the top 31% of those who took the test. Very Good is 85th or higher. Great is in the 90th and above. Mine were higher than that, and I had recruiters calling me day and night. At 69th, well, you have a very good chance of getting a good or better MOS, but you don't come close to writing your own ticket. As you did score 69th, I presume your math is better than LittleJoe's, as he claims to have landed in the 114th percentile. I have to wonder how he did that. This other fellow who lambasts "these idiots:" and then says your "line scores" must be above 100 . . . How does he figure that? Perhaps it was his math scores that pulled him down to the 30th percentile. I don't think it was just that. There is no guesswork in assessing what percent of test takers scored as well as you. Percentile systems tell you that exactly. Don't take a lot of huff and puff from folks who probably aren't what they claim to be.
Questions about jobs and my ASVAB score... Please help me out!?
As a potential Navy recruit I know CT jobs are available. The recruiters there were trying to tell me that they are putting a lot of people in CT...lots of females. CT(crypto) They have different specialties that you can see if you can get one promised on a contract to attend "c" school. Just some food for thought.
