Given That Fdr Was Popular Enough To Be Elected Four Times Why Was The 22nd Amendment Introduced

How was FDR elected four times when the limit was two terms?

There was no 'only two terms' rule/law. It was only an unspoken convention.FDR wasnt the first one to contest for a third term. His distant cousin Teddy Roosevelt did that too, for instance (though he lost to Woodrow Wilson)When FDR decided to run for third term, he wasnt sure himself if that would go down well with public. But he had already built a reputation for 'i do as i deem right' approach ever since his New Deal programs were scrutinized, sometimes scrapped, by the Supreme Court. So frankly, the man wasnt too touchy about issues like reputation. At the time FDR got into his third term, 1941, it was clear that US would inevitably have to play a wider role in WW2. FDR thought, and I agree there, that in face of an isolationist congress, a shrewd politician like him would be reqd to supply the Brits with arms and keep them fighting (lest America be forced to jump in formally for theor defense, which happened not before Pearl Harbour) FDR was also one of few mainstream politicians who had the experience of fighting a world war. He was in charge if Navy under Wilson administration. Arguably, he was tge most experienced man to lead the nation in event of a seemingly inevitable World War.I think he ran for a fourth term (unprecedented) because he wanted to finish the task he started. And yes, perhaps, he wanted the credit for winning the war (Unfortunately the man couldnt live to see the victory moment.)

Why was FDR elected four times?

Because he made the country dependent on his government programs and they didn't dare trade him in especially in the middle of WWII. Two years after he died, though, the Twenty-second Amendment was crafted so that we would never have someone in power with no expiration date. Too much power for one politician.

How did the 22nd amendment muster up enough support to be passed and ratified if Franklin D. Roosevelt was popular enough to be elected President 4 times?

Franklin Delano Roosevelt will forever & always be the only stain on the ideal of the Founding Fathers that no POTUS should ever serve more than two terms. Several Presidents from Washington to Franklin Delano Roosevelt could have done so, but all of them respected the principal too strongly to violate its intention.(The one exception of course is Franklin’s Uncle Teddy who tried & failed in his attempt for an additional term. Another legend in his own mind)You’ll find that revisionists attempt to portray Franklin Delano Roosevelt in a far kinder light than he was viewed by his contemporaries. Franklin Delano Roosevelt did NOT solve the “Great” (sic) Depression, he prolonged it; the second greatest mass-murderer in history, Joseph Stalin, could not have wished for a more obedient lapdog than he had with Franklin Delano Roosevelt; of course Franklin Delano Roosevelt illegally & immorally imprisoned thousands of Japanese Americans, attempted to stack the Supreme Court, abused his wife, placed Churchill’s opinions below those of Stalin, refused to accept Jews attempting to flee from Germany, & virtually lied about so things l find too numerous to even mention. One final thing; the press loved, idolized, praised, worshiped, etc., etc., etc., Franklin Delano Roosevelt, & he’s considered one of the greatest Presidents ever by the liberals - Go figure.

Why was FDR so popular?

FDR was popular in his time. It took a while to figure out that what he started wasn't so good. He began this trend toward rewarding mediocrity and ever-growing entitlement programs that could never work. While FDR wasn't bad - his policies failed in the long run.

Obama is trying to emulate FDR and take the failed socialist systems to a whole new level of long term failure.

Why was the 22nd amendment passed in 1951?

Because Washington limited himself to 2 terms, subsequent Presidents followed his example. The “honour system” broke down when FDR’s second term ended IN THE MIDDLE of WW2. America was not in it yet, but FDR campaign for and won a 3rd term, promising to keep America out of the war.His opponent (who’s name nobody remembers now) focused on this issue. That he was running for a 3rd term, breaking with the tradition started by Washington and continued by all Presidents after. FDR won nevertheless. His 3rd term expired while WW2 was STILL in progress, and he ran again. And won. His opponent said “four terms, or 16 years, is the most dangerous threat to our freedom ever proposed” and announced his support for a constitutional amendment limiting future presidents to two terms. FDR died soon after the start of his 4th term and his VP took over in 1944.The amendment was proposed and passed by Congress in 1947. It took four more years for 75% of the 48 states to ratify it.

Was the 22nd amendment created to stop Roosevelt from being re-elected President?

No. It was meant to prevent subsequent presidents from serving more than two terms. It was not ratified until years after FDR died and years after the 1948 election. if FDR had lived and run again he had no bar to reelection.Only AOC could screw up history like that to make an invalid point. Once off her talking points, she is as ignorant as they come. Fresh face, stale arguments.
