Going Into Canada From The Us Side

Bringing alcohol from US into Canada under 21?

I'm 19 so legal in all of Canada. One of my friends from college lives in Canada and I'm going next weekend and my friends mom wants a bottle of liquor from America. As long as I'm legal in the province, Canada could care less I was breaking the law officially being in possession back in the states, right? Just declare it to the Canadian officer at the port of entry and all will be good?

P.S. Don't act stupid. Answer the question. Don't tell me not to get pulled over in the US or to wrap it up and not consent to a search yea yea yea. Just answer my actual question without giving a sermon. I'm a CJ major so I'm aware of the fact it's technically against the US law when I'm in the US to posses alcohol, but I won't be getting caught.

Bring alcohol back from US to Canada underage?

if we obtain alcohol in the US, can I bring it back to Canada?

I am 18.

I would be underage in the US

but on the way home I would be entering Quebec, with Canadian custom people, where i am legal age,
Will they care that I was in the US with alch underage, or is all that matters that I declare my stuff and I am legal age in Quebec?

Do people living either side of the US/Canada border cross at will?

No. You still have to go through an office that asks you why you're going to and from one country to the other and checks to see if you have any drugs or weapons on you. Also going to Canada from the US, they are quite strict about not letting criminals over the border. It's almost impossible for felons, and a buddy of mine was given a tough time at the border just for a DUI in his past. You could in theory just walk across the unguarded border somewhere in the forest. It's been done before. In fact drug smugglers have operated this way before. There is a movie called Kid Cannabis about a high school student turned drug smuggler based on an actual instance where they would simply walk marijuana across the border through the forest. So legally, no. Americans and Canadians don't have a revolving door between nations.

Bringing alcohol across US/Canada border?

Cuban made cigars are PROHIBITED in the USA, so IF you are caught with them, in your car, the penalty is stiff. YOUR CAR can be seized, YOU can be arrested and wind up going to court, not home.

On the other hand, alcohol, bought in Canada, is subject to duty, IF you don't DECLARE IT, at the border check point. You are ALLOWED ONE bottle, duty free for EACH ADULT in your vehicle , BUT if you bring back any more and you will PAY DUTY on each one, above that limit.

MY best advice is this................BEFORE you cross the border to go back to the US., BUY at the "duty free store " on the Canadian side. Lower prices and they will enter your information in the US Customs computer system, so when you get to the US side, it will be right on the screen, for the US ICE officer to see, connected to your US license plate number, which you give to the staff at the duty free store's cashier booth.

Don't buy Cuban cigars and try to take them into the States, bad idea.

Think Federal Court, and big fines.

Can a 19 year old bring alcohol into Canada from the US?

I know a lot of you will say "wait til you get to Canada." But as a beer enthusiast, Canada does not carry a lot of brews. The price is also so much cheaper in the states.
On the Canadian border website, it says "You must be of legal age in the province of importation." So 18 or 19 depending on province.

But has anyone under 21 tried declaring alcohol going across the border Into Canada?

Can you walk across the Canadian-US border?

There are lots of border crossings where you can walk across the border passing through an official checkpoint. Including some of the bridges over the Niagara River. It used to be that in border straddling towns like Derby Line VT/Stanstead QC that it was understood that local residents crossed back and forth across the border within the town without having to report to the authorities but I understand that is no longer the case since shortly after 9/11, the streets that cross the border are barricaded and you must pass through the main checkpoint in the middle of town. There have been cases of local residents arrested by US authorities for illegally crossing the border without checking in. Within the last year there was a case reported in the news where the fire department from one side of the border was required to pass through the checkpoint screening process before being allowed to go assist fighting a fire on the other side of the border.West of the great lakes where the border mostly follows the 49th parallel much of the border passes through open farmland and wild country with no fence and in many cases pretty much no marker, and one could theoretically walk across the border at any point but again, since 9/11 the US Department of Homeland Security has installed sensor systems and makes regular patrols including using unmanned drone aircraft. You could do it but your chances of being caught and arrested are pretty high.

How can i go to niagara falls without entering canada ?

Since you're driving and not flying, and as long as you this before the end of this year, you each only need a drivers license or DMV ID and birth certificate. You can also use a passport, which you will need starting in January. The view of the falls is much better from the Canadian side, so if you want a good view of the falls, you'll want to enter Canada anyway.

But if you want to drive entirely in the US, take I-75 south to I-90 east. Once you get into New York, take exit 53 for I-190 North. Take the exit for Niagara Falls Blvd. and follow the signs to the business district and falls. This route does add about 150 miles and 2 1/2 hours to your trip though, as opposed to the one that goes through Canada.
