Going On Exchange Overseas What To Do With Rent Here

Unaccompanied orders, how can I go overseas?

Army Wife – Yes are currently unaccompanied. So I pay my own way, he applies for sponsorship, and I can use housing amount for there. Till then bah will still come, right Tricare will not pay? Why not, if I go on a trip they pay. I have been to other bases and not been denied privledges for shopping. So as far as living, it will be like when he was at school before we married, he can come on time off and bring me items from base as needed? Can I do EFMP screening there if I am there.
Mrs JVB- Not be allowsed? Can’t I “vacation” until … I am sure there is hotels right? We have lots of money saved from when he was places I was not and I stayed home. He make good money now.
NWIP – SOFA Stamp, they stamp my sofa, I would just buy a new one there. Why check furniture? Why furniture information in passport? Babies don’t need school. Wont need EFMP then. So I can vacation for 6 months, then be sponsored.

Military PCS overseas with girlfriend, not married?

I cannot answer the specifics about Rota, but she will need a visa since she will not be under a SOFA. That can take a while. If she wants a job, she will need a work visa.

Depending on the military housing rules and how strictly they are enforced, they may have rules against you living in government paid for quarters (since you will have OHA) with a girlfriend. This is often not enforced though. You will also need to see what the local lease says about her living there.

She will not be able to just come on base also.

She will also need some type of medical insurance.

She will probably just have to take the loss on the car.

As for adjusting to another country, it takes time. It helps to learn the language. Some people are better then others at it. Without speaking the language, its going to be very difficult to get a job since she wont really be able to work on base.

Also, since she will not be command sponsored, you will not get time off to help her if she runs into trouble since she is not supposed to be there.

Overall, your better off not doing it. I hate to saysponsoredI have seen this type of mess with married Soldiers trying to take their wife along on an unaccompanied tour. Its a huge mess. Once I saw an unsponsored wife get deported because they visa got messed up. You are better off saving your money and doing visits on tourists visas. Wish I had better news, but you are asking for a lot of trouble trying to do that.

The easiest thing to do would be to get married, get command sponsorship, have the car shipped over on orders and get housing or OHA. If the relationship is serious enough that she wants to move half way around the world with you, you should look at it.

What is the monthly average cost of living in Daejeon, South Korea for a foreign student?

There no way you'll get a house in a big city like Daejeon for 250K Won. At least not near your school. Maybe somewhere in the outskirts of town. Apartments are fairly cheap though, but they require a huge down payment (it's more like owning an apt. than renting it) in the realm of 10,000,000 Won, if I remember correctly.

You have about 1,000,000 Won to live on. That's about $1,000. If you're a student, you'll need to live on campus. If you do that, you'll have plenty of money to live on. If you can come up with a huge down payment for an apartment, you could live on your monthly allowances easily as rent would only be 150k Won or so. The gas heat in the winter will kill your budget though.

If your wife has a degree, she can get a job teaching English. For English teachers, housing is provided. That would solve your problems.

Can an army spouse move overseas when disapproved by EFMP?

If you are going to move yourself to Germany then you fall under German law, you will not be able to use all base facilities (ie medical, dental, gas stations), you can be limited to what you purchase at the exchanges/commissaries. You will have to get a visa to stay past a certain amount of time. For housing you will have to find your own, if he gets approved to live off base then it will be covered otherwise no it will not. He will not get COLA for you.

If you are going for a visit then it is different. you still might need a visa, but usually not as a passport is fine.
