Going To New York City. Where Should I Hit

If a nuke hit New York City, what city's in New York Sate would be affected by radiation?

Well God forbids ever happen!!! but basically New York city ( meaning the 5 boroughs ) would be totally destroyed

From manhattan to the northern tip fo the Bronx (Eastchester )is 13 miles
from manhattan to the Souther tip of Staten Island (tottenville) is 26 Miles
From manhattan to the Eastern/southern point brooklyn ( Coney Island) probably 18 miles
from Manhattan to the eastern tip fo queens (Far rockaway) 22 miles.

All boroughs are located less than 26 miles radious.

all New York city would perish...

Is hurricane Hanna going to hit new york?!?

It's not a hurricane. It's a tropical storm, which is under a category 1 hurricane. If you're in the NY area, you'll get a lot of rain and high winds. There will probably be thunder and lightning in the middle of the storm, and it will go from morning to night nonstop. During the night it should have passed over back into the Atlantic. Don't worry, you'll be fine. It's just a thunderstorm with a lot of wind.

What would the week after be like if New York City were ever hit with a nuclear bomb?

It would be similar to that of what happened after 9/11.We would be inundated with news regarding emergency efforts, analysts attempting to describe what happened and what the government is going to do.It's quite possible that since it was a nuke, you may very well see a mass migration of people out of other urban areas. People are going to start seeing their city as being next and they don't want to be there when it does.If that migration occurs, the economy will go in the tank. Banks will close, maybe for a couple of days or more. Production lines will cease as people stop showing up for work. The government will be moving heaven and Earth to find out who was responsible and then start making plans accordingly. The level of fear and paranoia would be unprecedented. The POTUS would probably go to NY and start Tweeting from the top of the pile of rubble that had once been his Tower.Professional sports would be put on hold indefinitely. That's only the tip of the iceberg.

What would happen if New York City was hit by a 9.5 earthquake?

Well that would be a lot of bad news for a lot of people…and more than you think. The east coast gets less earthquakes than the west coast and when they do, they are usually less in magnitude than their counterparts. At the same time the range of the quakes are less localized, so the effects are felt for hundreds of miles out. It’s extremely unlikely the NYC area would ever be hit with anything remotely that hard. The current record on the east coast is a 5.8 in north VA but was felt in some buildings in Manhattan 200 miles away.Given that each Richter point is a tenfold increase in measured amplitude which corresponds to “31 times more energy than the amount associated with the proceeding whole number value”.They did a study back in 2005 to find out what would happen if NYC got hit by a 5ish earthquake. “…would cost approximately $45 billion (inflation adjusted) in building damage and lost income, with over 2,500 buildings damaged and nearly 200,000 people left homeless. Forty million tons of debris would cascade the streets, 25x the amount caused by 9/11. The casualties: 1,200 dead, 200,000 wounded.” That’s just a 5ish.The death and damage would be catastrophic. There would be deaths hundreds of miles away from Manhattan. If Manhattan was the epicenter. There’s no organization big enough to supply the kind of support that would be needed.

What would happen if the asteroid Apophis hit New York City?

What would happen if the asteroid apophis hit new York city?Allow me to reword your question because Apophis will miss the Earth in every one of its next several close flybys out to 2105. Past that date, its orbit has not been determined to enough significant digits to make accurate predictions. What would happen if a previously undiscovered asteroid the size of Apophis hit New York City?99942 Apophis (Wikipedia) (previously known by its provisional designation 2004 MN4) is a 370 meter diameter near-Earth asteroid that caused a brief period of concern in December 2004 because initial observations indicated a probability of up to 2.7% that it would hit Earth on April 13, 2029. Additional observations provided improved predictions that eliminated the possibility of an impact on Earth or the Moon in 2029. . .As of 2014, the diameter of Apophis is estimated to be approximately 370 metres (1,210 ft).[3] Preliminary observations by Goldstone radar in January 2013 effectively ruled out the possibility of an Earth impact by Apophis in 2036.[11] By May 6, 2013 (April 15, 2013 observation arc), the probability of an impact on April 13, 2036 had been eliminated.[3] Using observations through February 26, 2014, the odds of an impact on April 12, 2068, as calculated by the JPL Sentry risk table are 1 in 150,000.[3] As of March 2018, there were seven asteroids with a more notable cumulative Palermo Technical Impact Hazard Scale than Apophis.[12] On average, one asteroid the size of Apophis (370 metres) can be expected to impact Earth about every 80,000 years.[13]Sentry: Earth Impact Monitoring - Center for Near Earth Object StudiesLet’s put these numbers into Earth Impact Effects Program - Imperial College Londonhere’s a Google Map centered on Central Park, New York City, assuming the asteroid hits Central Park, with a circle twenty kilometers in radius notedSo, Central Park is replaced by a crater, the seismic effects at twenty kilometers (12.4 miles) is an earthquake of 6.5 on the Richter Scale, then the air blast hits which is very damaging and then debris from the crater typically about 1.6 meters (5.24 feet) in diameter pummels what’s still standing. I’d say that’s bad.It is left as an exercise for the reader to determine the distance from ground zero at which the damage is acceptable. Thanks for the A2A, Brandon.

What would happen if a category 5 hurricane hit New York City?

A cat-5 hitting at high tide (and most do, as the time it takes for a storm to pass is hours, and there’s a high tide about every 12 hours) would likely provide swells above the capacity of the city to cope. The storm surge could be 30 feet (just over the highest recorded Surge, with Katrina). And with Manhattan being an island, the water would be able to flow in from all sides. Anything with an elevation under 50ft would be flooded. 30 foot increase in “base” sea level, plus cat-5 waves. Pretty much everything south of Central Park would have water at its base. The entire subway system would be submerged, with salt water. If buildings fell, they’d likely fall because of damage to the base, and would fail in a falling-motion. This could lead to a domino effect, for buildings close enough to each other. All the shore areas would be wiped out. The water soaking foundations and the winds trying to push them over would cause massive damage, and when things do start to break, a window blown off one building will cause damage to the next.Any business in NYC would activate their Disaster Recovery plan, and the NYSE and NASDAQ would be trading in Chicago for months. Millions in the outer boroughs would lose their homes. The ferries would be out for months (or hours, if the bridges come down, replaced by USN ships operating as free ferries). The tunnels would all be flooded with seawater.Seawater matters for the flooding, as it fills the electrics and everything else with conductive contaminants. a freshwater flood can be recovered from with less thorough cleaning. Saltwater flooding will require a near-complete rebuild of anything flooded. The damage would be incalculable. Though, if Miami is a guide, they’d reclaim more sea, and build below sea level and get the federal government to subsidize flood insurance for billionaire real estate speculators.
