Going To School With A Cast For A Broken Ankle

What can I wear over my ankle cast for school?

I broke my ankle on the 23rd (great timing, right?) and I went straight to the ER. They said that I broke my fibula right at my ankle. After having a temporary split/cast for a night, I got a fiberglass cast on. It goes up to the middle of my calf. They say that I'm doing well but I'll be in it for about 6 weeks. I'm on winter break right now (I'm a junior in high school) and usually my outfits are dresses and leggings. Since we'll be going back to school in January 6, I have no idea what to wear with my ankle cast to school. I've been wearing sweatpants that my mom cut 3 or 4 inches on the side at the bottom to fit my cast.

Will I be able to stretch my leggings over it? Or do I just wear sweatpants for the next month and a half? (I don't want to though!)

Going to school with a broken leg?

Very sorry about your leg, been there done that.

Contact your school and lay out your situation. Possibly, you may be assigned someone to carry your books between classes, even allow you to leave a class a few minutes early because of having to use crutches. Explain your need to elevate your leg to reduce swelling and see what school administration can do about that. Once you are in your hard cast it will be easier for you. Email me if I can be of any help at all.

Broken ankle, going to school.. ?

It really depends on how much your friend cares about going to school.

She's got a splint on the ankle, to absorb some of the movement, and we can be very sure that she's not going to try any fancy moves. The likelihood of her re-breaking it is Very Small.

Once I broke my ankle. As well as my own preschool daughter, I was caring for a friend's little boy. I drove to the medical centre in my rusty Volkswagen Bug (broken left foot managing the clutch pedal; no splint, etc.) I didn't go to work the next day, because the swelling had to go down before they put on a cast. (Stupid me, I didn't even think to ask for crutches!) The following day, I was at work.

Another time, I broke the lower two leg bones below the knee. The next morning I was casted up and out of hospital. On crutches, I cleaned the house, including vacuuming. (Yes, that was stupid, too. I should have told the SOB who complained to **** off a lot earlier ....)

Of course, she's in pain. She needs a simple painkiller, like acetaminophen, and to keep putting ice packs on it, to reduce swelling.

Except for Phys.Ed., most people at school sit still in their desks. As long as she can keep the foot up, she can rest there just as well as at home. (Actually, at home by herself, she's likely to move around more ...)

Crutches are very important for comfort.

My guess is that (even though I know she'd like an excuse not to go to school), she's going to be the centre of attention at school, and she'll enjoy it a lot more than being at home!

Happy 2010 to both of you!

Do I HAVE to go to school if I broke my leg?

Well, I broke my tibia last saturday and I got a full leg cast, my leg hurts and I haven't slept properly for some days. I have to have the cast for 6 weeks and I don't want a wheelchair of crutches, a wheelchair will be embarrassing and crutches hurt, as I know.
Can I do my homework from home? My parents say that I have to go to school on monday but I think it could be kind of tiring, boring and difficult for me. Please answer. Thanks.

What is the meaning of a dream of a friend with a broken leg?

The friend in the dream is a part of you. If the friend is the same gender as you - it is your ‘persona”, conscious personality, if the friend is the other gender - subconscious mind, part of your psyche which has qualities of the opposite gender (we all have a bit of the opposite gender in each of us) . Broken leg relates to inability to move, run, reach goals, protect yourself. If it is left leg - the reason is in the past, something which happened in the past, traumatic experience, a setback. If it is right leg - it relates to current situation and not being able to reach some goal or social status, plans for the future put on hold.

How long may it take to heal a broken leg?

It's hard to say because it's different for everyone. Without surgery, it usually takes leg bones 6–8 weeks to heal, maybe longer depending on the break. With surgery, the bones are stable immediately, so you'll be able to walk sooner, but the bones will still take a while to heal completely. I broke both my tibia and fibula and was supposed to be back playing sports within 3 months, but ended up having to take over a year off. So it's different for everyone depending on the severity of the break and complications that can come about.

How do you break your foot at school?

How about the time in which your friend thought it was funny to kick you continuously until you screamed in pain?Back in the days of seventh grade, within September, I met a new boy, Jebron (real name not used) who just newly moved to my school zone. And, like with many, he didn't have any friends. So, I did what any person who felt empathy for him would do.Become his friend! At first, the road to the new friendship seemed clear, new and fresh, full of potential opportunities. He liked the same things I did, we could get ourselves involved into good conversations.I wasn't as close with him as some friends I had at other points in my life, but he was a nice one to have. One week passed. Two weeks passed. Then some strange things began to occur. When we hit the third week mark, he kind of began to act rude, disregarding anything I had to say.He started joking about the most inappropriate things, and laughed at things that shouldn't even be his business to laugh at.It was as though he turned into a completely new person. But, things didn't peak until the fourth week.By the fourth week, during lunch, he decided to play this game he called “vengeful revenge.”He never explained the rules, but instead punched me right in the stomach. He proceeded begin kicking my legs, eventually making me fall to the floor.Boys nearby were bystanding, simply talking in their groups, minding their own business.I was crying in pain, wondering when he was going to stop.He then said, “come on! Aren't you going to hit me back?”But I knew better.Eventually, he began crushing my feet, which resulted in…“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”MY FEET BROKE.I told the vice principal (who, was conveniently, closeby) while I was guided to the nurse's office.Eventually, after school, I was taken, by my parents, to the closest hospital for further examination. And quickly heard the words,“I'm sorry, but your son broke his feet.”I was later given crutches and casts, and, the next day, at school, dozens of students flocked to me like ants being lured to a muffin.“What happened?”“Was that scream from you?”“Are you okay?”In the end, Jebron ended up getting a 3 day suspension and two weeks worth of detention. The boys who witnessed the incident, some being my friends, at the time, never commented about it.And I was stuck with broken feet for a while.

Go to school on crutches???!!?

Well, I broke my leg when I was on 4th grade and I broke it again (I'm in the 6th) and ask your parents if they can take you to the school and pick you up from there while you are in the cast, that's a really good reason.
I've used crutches too and yes, that's a pain but we have to use them, a friend of my parents who is a therapist said that practice will do the trick and you don't have to lean on the crutches, only walk with them grabbing the holds. I will have to use crutches soon too.
At school, as I do, you can be as quiet as possible, moving only when needed, for going to the bathroom, for instance, or only when you must be standing.
For carrying books, would it help a backpack? I use it for my books always since I started school, so you carry it on your shoulders and normally can walk with the crutches, asking a friend for help is not bad too if your books are heavy, for the bus, I don't know where you live but you can ask for help to a person next to you in the line or you can stand with your crutches, take them with one hand and use it where is needed, only suggestions trying to help.
Talk with your parents about all those problems and ask them to take you to school and pick up from there, if possible and ask your doctor tips to walk with crutches or google it, when I broke my leg the first time, my parents took me to a therapist who taught me how to walk, I know is difficult but we have to get used.
I hope you wanted a long answer, if you want to ask or say something you can send an email to me my address is n_daniel18@yahoo.com
EDIT: sorry for asking can you answer my question?

How do I break my ankle?

If you want to break your ankle easily and quickly, you’ll probably need some kind of blunt force trauma to your ankle resulting in a break. It will probably be pretty tricky to break your own ankle however because your brain prevents you from wanting to injure yourself usually. It’s the whole thing where we could technically bite off our own pinkie fingers but our brain doesn’t allow us to. It would take a hell of a lot of balls to purposely break your own ankle, knowing how much incredible pain you will be in. If you are looking to break it to get out of something such as sports or an event, you might as well save yourself the actual pain of breaking your ankle, and just buy some type of brace or casting material off of amazon and fake it. No one is going to make you take off your brace to see your “broken ankle”. Technically breaking your own ankle would probably considered self-harm, and is generally stupid, but I suppose you could take a hammer or such to your ankle. The hammer with be fast and easy, but very very painful. It will be more than just a broken bone, but busted blood vessels probably, swelling, and bruising. Soft tissue complications associated with the broken ankle can cause even further problems, not to mention the nighmare you will go through if you severely damage tendons and such. Depending on the severity, you may even need surgery, or have your foot amputated. There really is no GOOD reason to break your own ankle, and you could probably find a better alternative. Here is the true point of my writing:What can or will happen if you break your own ankleWill hurt like hellWill have severe swelling and bruisingWill have to keep your foot elevated for like everWill look dumb for breaking your own ankleCan result in surgeryCan result in amputaionCan result in a whole series of complicationWill result in thousands of dollars worth of medical expenses (BREAKING AN ANKLE AINT CHEAP)You WILL regret it:)
