What are the best movies that use color as a predominant theme? I'm currently trying to come up with a premise and general style of a screenplay and want to use color and the change thereof as an underlying style.

The Grand Budapest Hotel! All other movies by Wes Anderson employ colors to unimaginable standardsMe : have you watched The Grand budapest hotel? My Room mate: Is that the movie where everything is purple?~Every color imaginable!~"The fictional worlds evoked in film by director Wes Anderson have such a precise colouration – the very particular pastel-hues that paint the skies, drench the buildings and dress the characters, render Anderson’s microcosms almost dream-like. The hazy-hued lens through which we peer into the director’s unique world has a retro quality that casts his films in a nostalgia for a time that could have been. The muted pink of The Grand Budapest Hotel that makes the hotel itself the biggest character in the movie; the very particular French mustard that comes to define Gwyneth Paltrow’s Margot Tenenbaum in The Royal Tenenbaums; the vintage boy-scout green in Moonrise Kingdom – all of these hues are captured in the Wes Anderson Colour Palettes Tumblr, which breaks down the shades that colour Wes’s world scene by scene with precise accuracy, and also the Movies in Color site, which considers individual frames of many films, including Anderson's, distililng them down to their myriad different shades." - AnOther Magazine & Another ManYou could also see the color palettes he employed in his other movies in the above mentioned source.

I want a Phantom of the Opera room, what color should I paint the walls?

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think "salute" (# 7582) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

What are some accent colors for a burgundy room?

Although burgundy is a beautiful shade, it can be hard to coordinate the rest of your room around it. The tricky thing about decorating with a base color like burgundy is that it’s already such a deep color that anything else of the same shade will look heavy and dark, and in turn make your room look smaller. Because of this, you’ll only want to look for light colors. We have selected a few lighter and brighter shades that work with burgundy to liven up your room, provide dimension and color, and bring in some unexpected personality.PeachThe first shade we have selected is Peach. Because it’s in the same warmer family of reds and purples, but on the opposite end of the light spectrum, this color fits in quite nicely. Warm and feminine, it provides a contrast that has more depth than a stark white. If you want to invoke comfort and a light, playful feeling, peach is likely the best color. When thinking about how to use this in your room, consider the decor of the room. For a bedroom or living room, this can be used as a trim color, or incorporated into the room through accent pieces like pillows, vases, and window treatments. For a kitchen, think about a pearl shade with a peach tint in your countertop or backsplash.SeafoamFor an unexpected shade, look to a color that sits somewhere between a blue and a green, like seafoam. Because it can often appear too harsh or young looking, be sure to choose a deeper shade to neutralize it. A deep mint green will also do the trick. We love this color because it’s not the first shade you would expect to go with a deep, moody shade like burgundy. Somehow, the colors are cohesive and complement eachother quite nicely, letting both stand out individually. However, since seafoam is so eye catching, we suggest using it sparingly, and only in decorative elements as opposed to painting the trim or an accent wall.Warm BeigeFor something a bit more traditional, look to a warm beige. This is the best solution for a neutral color without having to resort to white, which can look harsh against a dark but warm color. Because this beige is tinted to pair better with burgundy, it will act as a purposeful complementary shade. Beige pairs well with practically anything, so you’ll find it easy to use in almost any element of the room, from furniture, to rugs, to decor, to paint. This sturdy, classic color combination will never go out of style.

What are some of the best Vim color schemes?

Color themes landscapes have changed a lot since my previous answer, with true color support and the ubiquitous material colors. I guess it’s time to update this answer with themes I’ve found the most complete and nice.Nowadays, my personal favorite, although not the most well-know, is drewtempelmeyer/palenight.vim : it’s colourful but not too much, based on material colours but not boring like some other themes… I’m hooked since I discovered it several months ago. I really love it and hope it’d get more widespread :)Second for me would be ayu-theme/ayu-vim with its 3 different colours, all of them equally nice (the light theme might be a bit too bright for everyday use though, but intermediate one is just great) :And just behind those two, there are many interesting themes such as :morhetz/gruvbox : classic but one of the best and most complete themes, I guess you can’t go wrong with it! Not fond of the yellow light theme though, but the dark one is pretty good.joshdick/onedark.vimmhartington/oceanic-nextarcticicestudio/nord-vim : if you like cold and less saturated colour themes, this is the one!Edit : I’ve written a blog post on the same subject, with my 8 favorite color schemes for a modern vim / neovim. It should be a good complement to this answer with more screenshots of each theme on my personal setup.>>>>>>>>Original answer :In my opinion, Solarized is one of the best and most complete colorschemes (personally, Solarized-light is one of the only light themes that I can use for a whole day), even though it’s not been updated a lot recently. I personnally really like CodeSchool by Astonj. The Base-16 package also provides some very nice themes, although most of them are not usable in a terminal for me, only in MacVim. I personally like these ones a lot : Base16 Eighties, Harmonic, Flat, Mocha, Ocean.vim-hybrid, vim-tomorrow and gruvbox a are also quite nice.Sources : - My nice new Vim theme - a port of the theme I did for TextMate (mimicking a @codeschool theme) - via @AstonJ- chriskempson/base16-vim- chriskempson/tomorrow-theme- w0ng/vim-hybrid- morhetz/gruvbox
