Good Film Acting Universities/schools/colleges

Is the New York University Tisch School of the Arts a good college for Film and Acting careers?

Yes. One of the best! It's EXTREMELY hard to get into. It's like Juilliard in NYC.

I want to go there. You have to have atleast a 3.6 GPA to go there. (I know...some Arts colleges don't even look at GPA and SAT but Tisch does..)

Is UCR good/decent university for film or acting?

the ones you have heard about are maybe good for film making. There is only one school that has a film acting major that I know of.
IF you really want to major in something else and do some acting, then find a school whose theatre department encourages non majors to participate in their plays. Colleges are not good places to study acting.

Is film school college or university?

"I am asking this because film making and film is my passion and I have always wanted to become a director!!"

"Film School" can be a department in a university/college" or it can be a free-standing school.

HOWEVER, don't waste your time and money on "Film School". Especially, don't try to force your parents to pay for a Film degree that will very likely lead to chronic unemployment and a career of dumpster diving for half-eaten burritos in Hollywood. Find something adult and responsible to study so that you do not become an unemployable parasite.

Should I go to an acting/drama school/college/university?

i also enjoy acting. However, I'm majoring in something else in college. My plan is to move to a bigger city to finish my degree while getting familiar with the acting scene around there. That way, I will simultaneously be getting a “useful” degree while doing what I enjoy. You don't need a degree in acting or theatre to do it. However, taking an acting class or two might help.Have you been in any plays? Acting can be boring. I love it, but for people who are in shows for the first time, they can be surprised and how long the hours are, how repetitive it is, how unexciting. If you want to go for it, you have to get used to rejection. I'm still working on this myself. If you can't take rejection, it's going to be hard to keep trying if you already don’t feel good about yourself.Study your craft. Expand your characters. I can't do plays right now, so I'm filming myself doing monologues and taking acting and singing at the college along with my regular classes. Can an you make it? Depends on your definition. My version of “making it” would be being able to make enough money to live on, whether it be commercials or short films, etc. The main thing is to try to become more confident and again, get used to rejection. Be in plays around your area, even if you get a small part. Do your research, know what acting entails. For example, many professional places require headshots and an acting resume.Sorry if you knew all this already. If I missed something, let me know :)

Is there any acting college that don't require auditioning?

Columbia College Chicago. No "film acting" major, but there is a major in theater with an acting concentration. No audition required, I believe (feel free to double-check me).

What's the best CUNY school to go to, for majoring in acting besides NYU, or Columbia?

There are several CUNY (City University of New York) you could try for acting. Hunter College is an opion or Brooklyn College, I personally would lean towards Brooklyn College...I have seen some program there and they were great plus they have a good threater.

Which Illinois university is best for starting an acting career DePaul, Bradley, or Columbia?

Of the 3 you mentioned The Theatre School at DePaul University is hands down the best Acting Program for Theatre. It was formerly known as The Goodman School of Drama up until 1978 and is widely accepted by working professionals in theatre as one of the premiere Acting Conservatories in the country. Its alumni list is very long and graduates work steadily in film, television and theatre.

The university teaches a number of movement disciplines (LaBan, Alexander, Feldenkrais, etc.), voice and speech systems (Lessac, Linklater, Skinner etc.) and acting philosophies (Spolin Improvisation, Grotovski, Stanislavski, First Folio Shakespeare, Meisner, etc..) to all of their acting students. Their facilities are bar none and you perform in public theatre venues including the 1,325 seat Merle Reskin Theater (formerly The Blackstone) in the heart of Downtown Chicago. The faculty is also outstanding and the school has a fantastic reputation not only in the Theatre community of Chicago but also across the country. Graduating actors are also showcased in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles in front of invited agents, managers, casting directors, and entertainment executives.

Having been a professional actor for last 12 years, my recommendation of the three mentioned would be DePaul. They are highly competitive and like most conservatories you may have to be invited back the first year and/or the second year to continue in the program. As mentioned above Northwestern too has a great reputation as an acting school and Columbia College Chicago is generally noted more for film. That is just a working actor's point of view. If you are looking to become a movie star - good luck with whatever suggestions come your way - but if your goal is to make a living acting you can't miss with DePaul.
