Good Films To Watch No Horror Films

What horror film should I watch?

The only horror movie I’ve ever seen is The Shining and that’s actually one of my favourite films (but that might be just because I love Jack Nicholson).

But right now I really feel like watching a horror film and have no idea which one so it’d be cool if somebody told me what their favourite horror film is.

Why are there no good horror films any more?

Rubbish. We are in a golden age of horror. You might not know that because you are looking in the wrong places. If you are paying attention to the right horror-fan forum groups and websites, the best do get substantial notice. Movies like Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010) may be ignored at the box office, but gain new cult followings when they hit streaming or RedBox. Perusing these groups, I discovered new lesser known classics such as the microbudgeted Hush (2016) and They Look Like People (2015). And I gave sleeper hit Get Out (2017) a try, and loved it (it may actually gain some awards buzz). It is easier than ever to get a horror movie made and distributed. If all you see is the output, you will get discouraged. Instead, frequent horror movie fandom sites like on Reddit’s /r/horror and get the fast track of what horror movies today are superior to the rest.

Should a Buddhist watch horror films?

The word "should" in your question is the trap here. There's no "thou shalt nots" in the Buddha's teaching. The best answer to your question is to watch your mind before, during, and after you watch the film. Does it lead to greater or lesser suffering? Does it lead to an increase in unwholesomeness or not? You'll know the answer for yourself then.I do agree with Saddha Kumari's answer too regarding the Uposatha. If you are observing that practice then you'd be voluntarily discarding movies and other entertainments.

Do you like watching gory horror films?

It depends entirely upon if the gore is necessary to the plot development, and even then it has to be a good plot.I’m okay with gore and am ambivalent to its existence. Surgery, for example, is gory, but the outcome for the patient is typically survival, so even gore can be a good thing.I was not fond of The Human Centipede, though the gore was integral to the development to the story—I just didn’t think the story was all that great.Hostel, on the other hand, was an intense story, and the gore fit in just fine.It really makes a difference as to the story, but I don’t seek out gore. I seek out good stories.

Why do some people watch horror films?

Simply, because of the thrill it gives you while watching it. If it is well created, then a horror movie will never bore you. Moreover, watching them with your friends can also be fun. I am fond of watching them, and so are many of my friends. For me, it all started in the 1st year of my college, when I and some of my hostel friends decided to watch The Conjuring 1 and went asking for it in the whole hostel. Actually, that time only some of the people in the hostel had LAN connection, and so we had to ask them to download it for us. Neither me nor any of my friends had laptop, so we loaded it into one of my friend's mobile that had 5 inch display, we connected a good quality mobile speaker to it, kept it on a table, and arranged ourselves in a semicircle, ready to watch it. There were 5 of us watching the movie in that Android phone. Yes, that small display served 5 of us!!. The way we arranged ourselves to watch it was truly a fun. In spite of being 5 of us, we all got very scared and were literally jumping on each other at each scary scene.Source: InternetThus, the momentum continued, and in the upcoming days, in similar fashion, we saw many of the horror movies together like Grudge series, Oculus, The Mirror, Insidious series, Annabelle, Conjuring 2, etc.I like to watch them because you have all the needed elements in that to entertain you, be it suspenses, thrills, jump scares & screams, and more especially the after movie discussions, teasing the friend who got more scared and also the coincidental scary experiences we may face due to the nostalgia created by that movie.Source: InternetThe memories associated with watching these movies are one the best experiences for me and thats the reason I love to watch them.

Is watching a horror film a cardio workout?

No because your not working your muscles

Good unsettling, atmospheric horror films to watch?

Comin from a fan of films like The Blair Witch Project, REC, Cloverfield, and The Exorcist, I ve had a tendency in the past to lean towards interestingly done found-footage films, but that s only partially intentional; for the most part, it was just rooted in a sort of instinctive allure. One film led to another, and, the next thing you know, I realized that most of them fell under that same umbrella, lol, which was found-footage.

However, in this case, I m looking for anything good, but also unsettling in sort of that same vein; one of the reasons I enjoyed found-footage films, for example, was their naturalism. No heavyhanded music, no flashy cutaways, etc. It just dropped you in as a spectator, and gradually grew more and more tense as everyday people are thrown into an ensuing chaos, your knowledge of the situation only as extensive as the characters around the camera. Nowadays it s been done to death and the amount of poor knockoffs are enough to spill a bucket, but when done well, I think they can provide a pretty raw, legitimate horror experience.

Anyways, probably should be saving that discussion for another Yahoo! Answers question, lol. The point is I ve been craving a good horror film, one that centers on suspense and space as much (or as little) as jump-scares and, better yet, has dark layers that accentuate the mood, like The Shining or Rosemary s Baby. Modern, fast-paced ones are fine, too (a la The Conjuring or Insidious), if you deem them worth it!

Thx!
