Actually you can do odd jobs up to 1000.00. If you go over that for the entire amount of the contract you then need the license. Getting the license is more about taxes than the actual work you do. Sales, earnings wages etc. The license is good for 2 years. And finally you can only do work outside the scope of the work you are doing with the general contractors license. Installing carpet tile etc require different licenses such as k-8 or c-8 for flooring and thats residential only. If you do commercial it is a whole other license. Actually you won't want to do contracting here. Its a mess and any little picky thing goes wrong you are on the hook for it. Doing business in AZ sucks.
