Good Male Monolouges For Compition

For an audition piece... Is it okay to do a male's monologue although you're female? It's complicated really

I've conducted dozens of auditions, and I've taught audition technique to hundreds of young actors. And one of the essential bits of advice I give to people in your situation is this: 99 times out of 100, you're on more solid ground if your audition material features you in roles for which you could conceivable by cast RIGHT NOW. TODAY.

You may be a tremendous actor, and you may give a brilliant reading of the Durang piece. But, if I'm the director, what does it really tell me about your castability? I'm not in the market (probably) for a girl who can play a young man dressed as a girl. I'd be out there, watching your performance, and thinking: "She couldn't find a WOMAN's monologue?"

I'm sure you'll get other responses urging you to do something wacky in auditions, to distinguish yourself from your competition. I can't agree.

HOWEVER...since you've been given the latitude to perform 2 contrasting pieces, you MIGHT be able to justify using the Durang piece, provided that your "A-list" piece is absolutely age and gender appropriate. I still don't recommend the practice, but it's your call.

It's very hard to find good contemporary comedic women's monologues. But...keep looking.

What is a good male song for a singing competition. my voice is a tenor and alto.?

stick to the tenor range, trust me on this..

song choices are wide depending on what style your into, dont choose songs that are hard to sing unless you are sure you can pull it off (get singing teacher/trusty friend to verify) weakness is NOT something you wanna display in a comp, choose something that will show off your voice, me for example, high sustained notes are my strong point being a lyric tenor, so i would choose songs like
- Smoke Gets in your eyes - Platters (easy and showy)
- Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx (nice and pretty)
- Earthbound - Connor Reeves
-All in Love is Fair - Stevie Wonder( dont choose unless you are sure you can pull it off)
or being a lyric tenor i could also choose songs that sound pretty and easier to sing like Have I Told You Lately - Van, Home - Michael Buble, Body Wonderland -John Mayer
think about your audience, if its a school comp, go for popular or easily recognisable hits, like No such Thing - John Mayer (its the guitar playing thats superbly difficult in this song not the vocals)

What is the best male audition monologue in Angels in America?

This one isn’t bad, There is also a great one from Harper, but difficult to find online. I recommend buying the play and having a flick through. There are a lot of good monologues.ANGELS IN AMERICA PART II: PERESTROIKA Tony KushnerBELIZE: You know what your problem is, Louis? Your problem is that you are so full of piping hot crap that the mention of your name draws flies. Just to set the record straight: I love Prior but was never in love with him. I have a man, uptown, and have since long before I first laid my eyes on the sorry-ass sight of you. But you didn’t know ’cause you never bothered to ask. Up in the air, just like that angel, too far off the earth top ick out the details. Louis and his Big Ideas. Big ideas are all you love. “America” is what Louis loves. Well I hate America, Louis. I hate this country. It’s just big ideas, and stories, and people dying, and people like you. The white cracker who wrote theNational Anthem knew what he was doing. He set the word “free” to a note so high nobody can reach it. That was deliberate. Nothing on earth sounds less like freedom to me. You come to room 1013 over at the hospital, I’ll show you America. Terminal, crazy and mean. (Pause.) I live in America, Louis, that’s hard enough, I don’t have to love it. You do that. Everybody’s got to love something.

What are some dark monologues for males?

I would go rent "Jaws", if you haven't seen it in a while -- and then learn Quint's monologue about the harrowing fate of the USS Indianapolis. Robert Shaw wrote the monologue himself, and it's terrifying. The USS Indianapolis story, a historical incident, explains why Quint hunts sharks with such a vengeful tenacity. He's quite drunk when it tells it (always fun to portray), and he swings between sadness, anger, and dark comedy. My brother used this monologue in high school and got an A. I highly recommend it.

What are some great serious monologues for a male? something that has been published.?

There are obviously many to choose from in shakespear. I like this from henry v.

Upon the king! let us our lives, our souls,
Our debts, our careful wives,
Our children and our sins lay on the king!
We must bear all.
... What infinite heart's-ease
Must kings neglect, that private men enjoy!
And what have kings, that privates have not too,
Save ceremony, save general ceremony?
And what art thou, thou idle ceremony?
What kind of god art thou, that suffer'st more
Of mortal griefs than do thy worshippers?
What are thy rents? what are thy comings in?
O ceremony, show me but thy worth!
What is thy soul of adoration?
Art thou aught else but place, degree and form,
Creating awe and fear in other men?
Wherein thou art less happy being fear'd
Than they in fearing.
What drink'st thou oft, instead of homage sweet,
But poison'd flattery? O, be sick, great greatness,
And bid thy ceremony give thee cure!
Think'st thou the fiery fever will go out
With titles blown from adulation?
Will it give place to flexure and low bending?
Canst thou, when thou command'st the beggar's knee,
Command the health of it? No, thou proud dream,
That play'st so subtly with a king's repose;
I am a king that find thee, and I know
'Tis not the balm, the sceptre and the ball,
The sword, the mace, the crown imperial,
The intertissued robe of gold and pearl,
The farced title running 'fore the king,
The throne he sits on, nor the tide of pomp
That beats upon the high shore of this world,
No, not all these, thrice-gorgeous ceremony,
Not all these, laid in bed majestical,
Can sleep so soundly as the wretched slave,
Who with a body fill'd and vacant mind
Gets him to rest, cramm'd with distressful bread;
Never sees horrid night, the child of hell,
But, like a lackey, from the rise to set
Sweats in the eye of Phoebus and all night
Sleeps in Elysium.

What's a good dramatic monologue for a Tisch audition?

If Tisch is your dream school, may I make a suggestion that you apply for their high school summer program geared toward high school juniors. You must apply by this February. This is no guarantee that you will get into the Tisch program for college, but it couldn't hurt. http://specialprograms.tisch.nyu.edu/obj...
