Sometime back, I was also looking for some nice movies involving no violence after seeing number of war movies/ disturbing thrillers etc. I.found the below ones really good and satisfying 'the' criteria too:1. P S I love you: I liked this one a lot..though II am not much a fan of romantic movies. It's a good one really.2. The lake house: it has an unexpected twist and also zero violence / destruction !3. Black swan: you can see it for Natalie Pittman's acting. It is woman character centric and revolves around dancing4. Forrest gump: it is about life of Forrest, who was eye witness to few of the most important events in US history5. Philadelphia: it has no violence per say, mostly court room drama6. In pursuit of happiness:it can be called as an motivational movie, with good entertainment7. Nothing to loose: I liked this one for the acting of Tim Robbins and the message towards the end8. Pretty woman: this movie is not perfect and has some flaws but still you can watch it for Julia Roberts . she is the hero of this movie!9. Into the wild: it has very different story line and I liked the subject very much (not violent but little sad ending though)10. About Schmidt: awesome acting by jack Nicholson and the central character of this movie is a retired middle class American man with a smooth life
In a movie, what is more disturbing to you - violence or sexual content?
Violence is disturbing. I wouldn't call sexual content disturbing. It's more like uncomfortable and unnecessary. Most of the times they add a sexual scene to a movie is just to get more people to go see it. I think movies that have no sexual content end up being better. Also movies that have less violence and less profanity are way better too. I saw a movie once that had so many bad words I couldn't even follow the script. It just loses credibility when they add so many bad words or violence. There are so many good movies out there that have won awards and they didn't need any sexual content, violence or profanity in them. That's the kind of movie that I like to watch. I do like watching scary movies but the ones that are full of suspense. Those are scarier than the kind where they kill 10 people in one scene. For example a movie that I thought was too gross and violent was Breaking Dawn. I think it should have been rated R. It was worse than other movies that have been rated R. That was very disturbing to watch and if I had teenagers I wouldn't let them see it at all. A lot of the things they showed was unnecessary. I don't think parents should let their teenagers watch films that are Rated R. Even the PG-13 movies these days are full of crude humor and sexual content that you would expect to see only in a Rated R film. What happened to John Hughes type of movies. A Pretty Pink or a Some Kind of Wonderful? Now that was good scriptwriting.
You raise a good point - movies are violent!‘Violence’ is a broad term, but hopefully a few to add to your list:The Blind SideThe King’s SpeechInside OutThe Imitation GameThe MartianInterstellarTRON & TRON: LegacyOcean’s Trilogy
Hidden Figures, as someone else mentioned. Smart women launch rockets, etc. with their brains. And fight inequality. A story everyone should know.Whale Rider (2002). Strong, brave girl proves she’s as good as a boy and can lead her people. The Last Mimzy (2007). Two kids get smarter by interacting with more-than-a-bunny. And what they’re doing could be *really* important. Great graphic effects.
