Good Design Schools? DAAP, SCAD, RISD?

RISD is the best art and design school in the US. It's like Harvard, but for art schools - and I'm not even exaggerating. The only other art school even comparable is the Cooper Union.

I'd rank your schools as follows, as overall art schools (not specifically in the fields you mentioned):

1) RISD, by a mile
2) Pratt, also very, very strong
3) DAAP

huge gap. Think, like, 100 schools. Then...

4) SCAD

With that said, I'm not dissing SCAD. I actually really like SCAD. But it's no where near as well ranked as the others on your list.

For industrial design specifically, the best schools are: Art Center College of Design, RISD, Carnegie Mellon, Pratt, Ohio State, Cranbrook, and DAAP.

For illustration, it's School of the Art Institute of Chicago, RISD, Maryland Institute, Temple, San Francisco Art Institute, Cranbrook, Virginia Commonweath, UT Austin, Indiana U, Columbia U and UCLA.

For Graphic Design, it's RISD, Cranbrook, Virginia Commonwealth, Carnegie Mellon, Maryland Institute, U Illinois Urbana, Pratt, and School of Visual Arts.

For animation - do you mean computer animation, or hand-drawn, or other? That makes a difference. For computer animation... probably Carnegie Mellon, Rensselaer Polytechnic, UCLA, RISD, California Institute of the Arts, and School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

What are good words to describe field trips and school uniforms?

Field Trips: Excursions; Outings; Outside Classroom Experiences; Extra-curricular Activities

Uniforms: Standard outfits; Standard Attire; Consistent Dress Code? Indistinct clothing regulation? That's a tough one.

Will I be a failure in my field because the top schools in my field did not accept me?

Hell no.Let me give you a more detailed answer/justification.  In most fields today, the distance between the top 10 or top 5 schools and the rest of the field is narrowing.  This is especially true in CS, where the growth of the field means there are lots of top faculty candidates every year.  But the top 10 schools can only hire a small # of them, so many many of the top people are going to schools lower ranked, and in doing so, making them that much better.Again in the context of CS, if you look at the top conferences in various research areas, it is abundantly clear that lots of schools are benefiting from this trend and rising quickly in quality to rival some of the top schools.  These departments are often less consistent across faculty, with a few rising stars producing the large majority of the high quality work.  In contrast, the large majority of faculty at top10 schools are performing at that peak level.  But if you identify the right faculty, there's nothing stopping you from getting a top notch research education/training from a non-top-10 school.Let me also add a comment that I made to a current PhD grad student, that low statistical probability should never be a barrier to trying to succeed: "Low probability does not mean you should discourage an applicant. Heck, Phd accept rates in my dept are less than 10%, mobicom/sigcomm accept rates are around 12%, NSF funding rates are less than 10% for most programs, 480+ people applied for the single position that I now hold.  But if we listened to these probabilities, we would have quit a long time ago.  As academics, we make a habit of breaking statistics and becoming the exception.  I don't see probabilities as a reason to discourage students from starting that trend."

Which schools are strongest in the field of mathematical/computational biology?

Mathematical and computational biology are not the same field. Computational biology uses computation methods to deal with large data ( be it genomics, functional genomics, proteomics etc) using statistics, machine learning, signal processing, etc. For these you want to look in papers published in journals like Molecular Systems Biology, PLOS comp bio, BMC bioinformatics, etc. And find professors that you like through articles. Mathematical biology deals mostly with modeling biological systems, say theoretical population genetics, evolutionary game theory, cancer modeling etc. You want to look at journals like Journal of theoretical biology, Theoretical population genetics, etc. In general you are better off looking for particular professors. In my opinion, in computational biology MIT, Stanford, UWashington, UCSD are good. Note that you should look inside the CS department for the top comp bio programs, rather than the bio department. In Mathematical Biology I would look into what precisely your interest lie in and then you would know what professor is appropriate for you. The best professors are in those schools that have a strong math or have a group that is not too ('field') biological in the Evo-Eco department. Harvard, Princeton, UC Davis, Upenn, UChicago, UC Berkeley, Stanford  are few to name.

What are some good electrician trade schools around the Los Angeles region?

You need to serve a four-year apprenticeship to be a licensed (journeyman) Electrician.
This means you need to attract a sponsoring employer.
"Trade Schools" and Community Colleges can offer a 6~12 month "pre-apprenticeship" course to get you prepared for finding a sponsor.

It's best if you already know someone in the trade or union who can steer you to an apprenticeship.

I need snack ideas for kids field day @ school?

Any snacks I take can not consist of baking/cooking, and I've played out the fruit gummy snacks, juice boxes so I really need to get more ideas.

These are all kids with ADHD so the less sugar the better!

Why are field trips good for students?

Hands on experience and involvement. Shows applications of what they are learning. It makes the material less abstract and students can see how it applies to everyday life. Makes them pay more attention to it and retain details. Not to mention kids are more likely to pay attention when they are interested and field trips offer lots of stimulation.
