Religious tattoo, good or bad?

There are many answers to this question. I see that someone put the famous anti-tattoo quote from Leviticus as an answer.
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD” Leviticus 19:28. To me this means that I should not tattoo myself...I should have a professional do it for me. I consider myself a very religious person and I have one tattoo and I am going to get my second next week. In my opinion tattoos have no effect on your heart or on your soul...as long as you believe and have faith you will be fine. Getting into heaven is about God's grace and forgiveness, not about living a sin free life. Have fun and make sure if you get a tattoo get one because it means a lot to you...not just because it is a religious symbol.

I hope this helped you.

Is this a decent Othello quote (tattoo worthy?)?

Iago says...

When my outward action doth demonstrate
The native act and figure of my heart
In compliment extern, 'tis not long after
But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve
For daws to peck at: I am not what I am.

I am well aware that Iago is the antagonist. My interpretation of the quote is that Iago admits that he is not "himself," or that he is a superficial person. However, he resorts to this superficiality because he does not want to wear his heart on his sleeve and put himself in a vulnerable position.

This quote means a lot to me because the sympathy I have for Iago's motives; he hides behind a mask because he is scared of being shot down for being himself or for showing his true emotions. Although he's portrayed as the "bad guy," Iago's issues are simply a result of his insecurities, which is something many people can relate to.

MY POINT: Is this a completely ridiculous tattoo? I know the meaning isn't very obvious, but it means a lot to me. I would get it in old English font on my side or on my back. Honesty is appreciated.

Would it be a bad idea to get a tattoo that reads 'Ego sum qui sum'?

I've had my tattoos for 19 and 11 years and am still happy with both of them. It's all about considering the long term: "I am who I am" works just as well at 18, 37, and 62. Your personal interpretation of the phrase may change, but the core meaning is still significant.

And nobody speaks latin. Physicians and nurses have some training in latin (medical terminology and all), but none that I know would be offended. The rest of us (religious or otherwise) would be clueless.

In short, best idea I've heard for a tattoo in a long time.

Meaning of this poem, thinking about getting it for a tattoo, want some insight besides my own?

Man is his own star; and the soul that can
Render an honest and a perfect man
Commands all light, all influence, all fate.
Nothing to him falls early, or too late.
Our acts our angels are, or good or ill, 1
Our fatal shadows that walk by us still.

Harry Potter Quote Meanings?

Basically I want to know the meanings to these quotes. Please and Thank You. :D

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

Curiosity is not a sin.... But we should exercise caution with our curiosity... yes, indeed.

It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.

If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.

Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.

Is tattooing bad according to the Bible, and where does it say in the New Testament?

Leviticus 19:2828 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord. This is the verse cited by most religious traditions as a prohibition against tattoos, the problem many fall into is context. The word “tattoo” did not enter into the English language until the late 1700s. This is why the KJV, written in the early 1600s, is closer to the literal translation saying, “ye shall not...print marks upon you.”The background to this law was that Israel, after being rescued from slavery, was between Egypt and Canaan. Recent archeology indicates that, while Egypt did tattoo, it was limited to women. Evidence suggests that tattooing the body parts of women associated with fertility (breasts, thighs and abdomen) was believed to be a good luck charm to protect the birthing process. In Canaan, evidence indicates that instead of marking the body with ink, more extreme scarification measures, like branding, slashing or gashing the skin were used. Archeology, backed by biblical texts, indicates the Canaanites would customarily slash their bodies for ritualistic purposes, especially to mourn their dead and honor their gods.1 Kings 18:2828 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.In Leviticus 19:28, God was forbidding scarification, not tattooing as we know it, the specific note here, is markings for the dead! With this said, while there may be no clear passage in the Bible addressing tattoos, this is hardly a license for unrestrained tattooing. You still need to think before you ink, especially if you’re a Christian. There are many scriptures that are used into order to make a stronger argument that tattoos are forbidden, (1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Thessalonians 5:22, 1 Timothy 2:9, Colossians 3:20, 1 Corinthians 3:17, Romans 14:23, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Romans 14:15-20) but these are extrapolations.

Which Chinese characters are suited for tattoos?

As Andrew Mead mentioned, many Chinese characters have multiple meanings in the absence of context. But there are also characters that do have specific meaning when used in isolation. For example:忠: Loyalty義: Righteousness. When used as a tattoo it often suggests that you are a person who will always stand up for a friend.善: Good. Benevolent.美: Beautiful. Beauty.德: Virtue.道: Tao. The Way.Also, there is one famous tattoo in Chinese history:精忠報國It was tattooed on the back of General Yue Fei (岳飛) by his mother, so that he would never forget to be loyal and serve his country. But in general it is always a wise decision to get a native Chinese-speaker to proofread your tattoo before you get it.

"Hell is empty and all the devils are here" i want to get this quote tattooed, what?

I think the quote is dumb and you'll regret this when your 60. I don't condemn tats I have 2 but they have deep meaning.

Edit: I think its dumb because of the phrase you may feel strongly about it now but you may wake up one day and think, why did I do it? Just think long and hard about it because once its on your skin that's it, removal is an option but it scars.
