Got First Tattoo 5 Days Ago. What Should Be Happening To The Tattoo Right Now

What was your first tattoo and what do you think about it now in retrospect? What was the tattoo? On which body part did you get it? Did you regret it later? If yes, why? Any suggestions for someone who is about to get his first tattoo?

My first tattoo is that of a flying bird- 5 images of a flying bird. I love this tattoo becauseI got it done out of an upsurge of spontaneity.I got it done after getting married and this is the first time I knew my husband is as non compos mentis as me.The birds that fly, it symbolises movement and energy and the possibility of soaring into the air, above any hurdle. The sky is the limit.I got it done on the eve of my job interview.I got it done on my forearm. After getting it done, it has become a ritual to flaunt my tattoo with my forearm as the focus. :P Getting it done on the eve of the interview wasn't planned. I didn't even think if I would be denied the job for this sole reason.Though it was a spontaneous decision, I have never regretted for getting it done. I did get the same job I was interviewed for, the next day. Everyday, I'm proud for having got inked and I love my forearm! <3About those who are planning to get it done, do it! I won't say that it is free of pain, but then it is worth it. It is pretty addictive and I have been thinking of my next tattoo the moment I got this done. Moreover, a tattoo is the only thing you take to your grave. Loyal, huh! :DAnother picture...

5 day old tattoo, should this be happening?

ive never heard of that oinment, did you get the tattoo at a well known reputable shop?

i use a&d ointment just because i trust my artist and he gave me that to use. ALWAYS TRUST YOUR ARTIST!
something ive learned from experience.

but anywho, your tattoo is just fine :] no worries. its supposed to scab, flake, itch, all that good stuff.
all of that should go away in a few weeks time so let it heal.

and good job for now itching it!! i was worried for my first too, but once the itching stopped i almost forgot i had them.
so have fun with your new ink and thanks for taking care of it!

I got a tattoo 5 days ago and its starting to peel and its shiny and wrinkled should it happen that fast?

yup..sounds like its healing good. but DO NOTTTT peel it off AT ALL! if you start to prematurely peel it..it can pull the ink out of the tattoo.

just apply some fragrance free lotion...the frangrance in lotion can also fade the ink.

just keep it dry and away from scratchy clothing to keep it from peeling to quickly. the color probably he tatted deeper which is why its scabbing a little more. but no worries..take care of that ink girlie.

Peace ♥ Love ♥ Ink

Which questions should I ask myself before getting the first tattoo?

You’ve had so many good answers, and I think all the important questions have been answered. Here’s a couple of things I try to ask myself (and be honest about) before running to the tattoo parlour:Do I want this tattoo badly enough that I’m willing to wait 10 months to a year between getting the initial idea for it and actually getting it inked? If I totally, absolutely, really HAVE TO HAVE THIS DESIGN RIGHT NOW -I try to give it a few months. You’ll have the rest of your days to enjoy it, if you do get it done. There’s no rush, and you might thank yourself later. Will this particular type of design, which is really popular now and I see it everywhere, make me feel like a ninny in 20 years? (not because it won’t mean the same to me, but because it will be so 90s, or 00s, or whatever.)copyright Matt Groening Life in Hell ArchivesI really want a tattoo on (my wrist, my forearm, my leg, my face) -but do I want *this* *specific* tattoo there? Chances are you’ll want more than one tattoo (most people do). Unless you’re planning to get stuff removed or covered up, it’s worth thinking long and hard about what to put where. This, for me, is the most important question:Am I emotionally stable right now? A lot of people get tattoos because they’ve been through a rough time, or an amazing time, or they’ve lost a loved one, or they’ve had a big dream crushed and they want to give themselves courage. And those are perfectly good reasons. But permanently marking yourself should be a decision made with a very clear head -not in the aftermath, or during, an emotionally challenging time. So, if you really, absolutely have to get that tattoo the reminds you of X, Y, or Z, maybe give it a few months, or years, after X, Y, or Z, has happened, and you’ve had a chance to process it.Best of luck!

Can you swim in the sea 6 days after getting a new tattoo, if you cover it from the sun?

Avoiding pools, hot tubs, oceans .. even baths for the first 3 weeks of a tattoo really is the way to go.
Salt water is good for piercings, but not for tattoos.

I used Vaseline on my new tattoo for 4 days!!! should I be worried??

First, you have done nothing wrong unless you put TOO MUCH vaseline on your skin. The reason we never tell people to use this is that people always glob it on and it makes the skin surface stay too soft and is a magnet to collect bacteria, etc. Vaseline is NO DIFFERENT in this regard to A&D or bacitracin or any other type ointments - they ALL contain petroleum jelly.

It is time now to switch to a mild lotion. Anything unscented - the more ingredients, the more chance for irritation so that is why we recommend unscented stuff like Lubriderm, Curel, etc.

Your tattoo sounds like it should be after four days. No worries.

Healing tattoo...?

Lotion does have an expiration date, but even if it didn't, it's better to buy your own tube anyway. I asked the same question to the tattoo artist when I got my first tattoo last week, and he said that it's definitely best to get my own bottle simply to avoid the risk of cross contamination. Also, I'm using a non-scented, water-based tattoo lotion as recommended by my tattoo artist called "H2Ocean Tattoo Aftercare Cream", and my tattoo is healing beautifully.

Although I'm not a professional, based on what my tattoo artist told me, I'd definitely recommend using your own bottle. Also, you can get the cream I'm talking about if you follow this link:

Good luck, and let us know how your tattoo looks when its healed. I hope I helped!
