Got One Hour Of Sleep Caffeine Gives Me Anxiety

Why does Coffee cause anxiety?

i'm 15 and i started drinking coffee last year, my first year of high school. i'm not a regular drinker though. i probably drank two cups a week or less. anyways, i drink it a lot less now. i find that everytime i drink it, i become anxious a few hours later. i don't know why, though i have suffered some depression symptoms last year before i started drinking coffee.

is this because i'm not a regular drinker? if i drank it regularly would i be less anxious?

and one more question.... why does it cause anxiety?

Why does caffeine give me anxiety attacks?

Probably stimulates your nervous system too much. Do you 420? Sometimes that can trigger attacks....believe it or not. You went to the doctor and they could not say? Strange. Maybe you should ask, or try to find out. That way, you can use bio-feedback to control it.

I had one once...and thought I was having a heart attack....my heart rate was 170 bpm (beats per minute). Should be 70-75. I had a crushing feeling in my chest...and I was getting incoherent. Once I had the EKG, the doc told me that my heart was good....didn't even miss a beat....so he diagnosed it as a anxiety attack. Once he told me that....my bpm slowly came down to 90... (the result of bio-feedback) and he gave me some advil. That was my first time and years ago. Has not happened since.

Next time it happens...just realize that this is what it is....slow your breathing...and even try to take a deep breath and hold it...and release slowly and evenly....thinking of nice places....the beach.....the sound of the waves....the breeze on your face.... You should be fine...

But try to get some answers....

Coffee gives me anxiety?

Unfortunately, caffeine affects the body in weird ways. I would say to kick coffee and give tea a try. However, your body may be sensitive to caffeine in general. For starters, head over to Adagio Teas and pick out a few $2 samples (anything from vanilla green to chocolate black tea) and some paper filters (you'll need these as all of their teas are loose, not in teabags). Steep according to the recommendations on the pouch and enjoy!

You may find the tea calms you. If not, switch to an herbal, caffeine-free tea, like chamomile. That will certainly relax you!

Could a caffeine crash 4 hours after consumption cause anxiety?

The effects of caffeine are said to wear off after about 4 hours. Some people are more tolerant, some are less.Since caffeine is a stimulant, and excessive consumption of coffee is said to make people anxious, I would expect that if it caused anxiety, it would be wearing off about four hours after consumption, rather than coming on.If you suddenly felt anxious four hours after having coffee, it probably wasn’t the coffee. If this just happened once, lots of things could have caused it and it’s not worth worrying aboutIf it’s happening repeatedly, especially if it’s new, you should talk with your doctor about it. You could have some health issues or it could be life issues.

Why has coffee started to make me dizzy and even give me anxiety attacks?

Yes, you should bring it up with your doctor, at least in your next routine checkup.  But here's my take on it:As with all pleasures in life, everything should be done in moderation.I remember back in my teenage years, I actually grew an addiction to milk.  I was drinking massive glasses ... *glug glug glug* ... gone.  Eventually I started to feel sore after drinking milk.  I developed lactose intolerance.  So I stopped cold turkey for a year straight, eventually building up the courage to try milk again.  It was fine.  Since then, I've not drank silly amounts of milk since.Guess what?  It happened again about 15 years later, with massive cups of coffee.  First I was drinking two twenty ounce cups of coffee, but I liked the ritual so much, so I joined coworkers when going for a third cup.  Every day.  So eventually I got a crash course in acid reflux.  Soreness on one side of my throat in the morning?  That's coffee leaking out of my stomach and burning away at my esophagus when I sleep.  I took a page out of my diary of dairy recovery and took a break from coffee.  Eventually I went back to it.  Now I don't drink so much coffee, and certainly not in the evening hours.Caffeine restricts blood vessels.  Restricting blood flow is certainly a way to cause dizziness.  It's doing something to your system which may not be a big deal in moderation, but if you push yourself over the edge, the system starts to not cope so well.  I personally can relate to coffee-induced anxiety as well.  Coffee makes me think quicker and be more anxious to jump on tasks and get them done, for better or for worse.  When I have enough sleep, the combined boost from caffeine makes me feel hyper-aware, and I feel I need to make the most of it.  This isn't really a big deal... unless I abused coffee and the effect was amplified to extremes. But all is not lost for you.  What I would do in your shoes... is take an unfortunate but necessary break from coffee, for at least a couple of months, so you can not only heal physically, but also get over any psychological addictions you may have developed.  Then slowly wade back into the water, when you feel comfortable, and recognize that you can't safely handle 4-6 shots of espresso a day.  Save some cash and really appreciate maybe 2 shots of espresso, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon.  Sound good?

I feel really jittery, anxious and sick because of caffeine. I'm sensntive. HELP!?

The same thing happened to me one day a few months ago. I consumed a ton of caffeine one day and stayed up all night, I was well into the hundreds and hundreds of mg's of caffeine, I had to be cause I drank multiple, large 20oz travel mugs of coffee, and I made the coffee strong using like 3 heaped up teaspoons of instant coffee in each mug.

Around 6 or 7 in the morning when I tried to go to sleep, I couldn't, it was like my body wanted to but it couldn't. I started freaking out, I had a racing heart, chills, mouth watering, some kind of anxiety attack or something (I read too much caffeine can give you an anxiety/panic attack). This actually happened to me 5 or 6 times in the past few months but it wasn't until after this last episode that I put two and two together and tied it to taking in way too much caffeine.

It scared me so bad I thought I was having a heart attack or something, and I actually did go to the hospital, they checked my heart and everything, my blood pressure was actually pretty high I think, and pulse was too. They ended up giving me some drug to calm me down, and I slept a little at the hospital. When this happened to me before I actually drank alcohol to counter it (not saying I'm recommending that, but it does seem to work) but it was so bad this last time I went to the hospital. I have since then cut way back on caffeine and drink alot of decaf now, cause I never want that feeling again. This has never happened to me again since I cut way back, and started being careful how much coffee I drank.

There is probably some over the counter drug or remedy you could use besides alcohol to counter it I'm sure I do not know what it is though. Be careful how much caffeine you take in, it CAN mess with you!!! Yes it can also dehydraate you which also leads to sick feelings.

If certain foods can cause anxiety. For example caffeine. How can you fight the anxiety it gives? How long does it stay in your system?

If certain foods can cause anxiety. For example caffeine. How can you fight the anxiety it gives? How long does it stay in your system? The half life of caffeine is 5 to 6 hours.[1] This means if you consumed 200 mg of caffeine in coffee at 10 am, you would have eliminated 100 mg of it by 4 pm. In other words, it stays with you for quite a while. If you feel anxious after drinking too much coffee, you can do the following:remind yourself that this is an effect of the caffeine that will pass;drink lots of water;try some green tea - it has a small amount of caffeine and a large amount of l-theanine, a substance which is very calming;switch from drinking coffee to tea since all types of tea have l-theanine.Keep a food journal to make note of other beverages and foods that adversely affect your anxiety. If you seem to be sensitive to many foods, consider having allergy and food intolerance tests. Anxiety and allergies/sensitivities can coexist and make each other worse.Footnotes[1] Caffeine Pharmacology

Why does coffee make me sleepy instead of active? I’m an 18 year old female and I’ve been drinking coffee since I was 13 or so. Does this mean I’m tolerant or something?

The caffeine in coffee works as a stimulant primarily by blocking a neuromodulator called adenosine. In a normal waking cycle, adenosine gradually accumulates at certain synapses in the brain and in doing so will contribute to increasing drowsiness. But caffeine acts as an adenosine antagonist, blocking the sites to which it binds and preventing it from working — the result is a feeling of increased alertness and energy which begins within a few minutes of consumption and continues for several hours. However, the body will tend to produce more adenosine to compensate for the fact that adenosine doesn't seem to be working under the influence of caffeine; this means that once the caffeine wears off, increased drowsiness is likely to result. This 'vicious cycle' is responsible for the addictive quality of caffeine, and withdrawal for a very heavy and regular caffeine user can be most unpleasant and even medically dangerous in some cases.I am aware of no clear-cut pharmacological reason that caffeine in and of itself should make a person feel sleepy rather than wakeful, but I can think of several murky possibilities:The coffee you are drinking may not be very "strong," and is perhaps weakly brewed with a low caffeine content. Try ordering an Americano with two shots of espresso and drinking it quickly on an empty stomach; if that makes you sleepy, I'd be concerned about your planet of origin!Your coffee may be heavily sweetened, and the drowsying effects of the associated sugar crash may be stronger than the opposite effects of the caffeine. There is some evidence that stimulants affect persons with ADD/ADHD much differently than others, though this distinction is mainly applied to a family of stimulant drugs which are dissimilar to caffeine, and your reaction to caffeine should not be taken as a marker for such disorders.Caffeine does seem to affect different people in different ways — but caffeine does not chemically induce drowsiness as a primary effect and would never be used in such a way by a physician, for example, so it is probable that something quite funny is going on if you find that even large doses of caffeine routinely make you sleepy.

What does it feel like to take marijuana and caffeine at the same time?

Bad bad bad!!! I had some really strong espresso and some really strong pot within about 2 1/2 hours of each other. I hit the pot pretty hard, but didn't expect the reaction that happened. I got really dizzy and the room went bright white. My heart started beating really fast and that made me more worried. My roommates tried to calm me down, but I was having an anxiety attack/thinking I was going to die. I started drinking water and basically laid down and tried to relax, but then as my heartbeat started to normalize it started to beat very slow and this freaked me out, again, and it would start to race again.  I can't speak to whether this was just a consequence of an anxiety attack while on pot and caffeine, but I have a feeling it was induced by both, and would not have happened otherwise. The only thing that really "cured" me was finally going to sleep, which took several hours.  I never smoke pot anymore, which I know is a bit reactionary, considering I still drink a couple of coffees a week. After all, it could just be the coffee's fault. But regardless, I don't smoke anymore. I would not recommend any kind of upper with any kind of downer, in general. That includes just mixing coffee and alcohol. I try not to ever do this, that is, if I have coffee in the AM I don't drink at night. If I do drink at night after even just a strong cup of joe, I have more dizziness and consequently more anxiety. I don't think this is a hard and fast rule for everyone, but I do think it's a good thing to remember-- when you're up stay up-- when you're down stay down, until you can sleep.
