Awwww, so sorry to hear this.there are tons of programs for you. Please don't be ashamed to recieve them that's what they're there for.
You qualify for food stamps, however they will ask you if the Daddy is around.

Are there legitimate free government grants for working single mothers?

Most of the websites I've visited seem to be scams asking you to purchase their book and information. I believe if there are grants out there, no one should have to pay for this information or to apply. If you know of any legitamit free grant programs for single parents, single mothers, teachers, low income home owners, etc....please let me know.
I am a single mother with 2 children solely supporting our household on a full time low income budget. (TSS worker) Paying bills and the mortgage has become unbearable due to the courts terminating the support I use to receive for my daughter. Her father could afford a corrupt lawyer using her support payments, and I had to go bankrupt. I also qualify and am presently receiving food stamps and other low income help from utility companies, school, etc. My other child's father is in and out of drug rehabs and prison, so getting support from him via the court system has been a joke for the past 14 yrs. Please help if you can. Thanks so much. :

How do I apply for Obama's "single moms go back to school" grant?

Yes. Fill out the FAFSA online. They will tell you immediately after you submit the completed form how much they "estimate" you would qualify for.I am a single parent of 2 children. I just got my pell grant for $5300 for the 09/10 school year and I am not doing school online. I am going to our local technical college. You will need to put on the fafsa the school you want to go to so figure that out too. If you get a pell grant you can go anywhere - not just online degree's. Also, have your taxes in front of you from 2008 because they ask for detailed tax info. The fafsa is figured from from your income in 2008. All schools use the fafsa so make sure this is the only one you fill out to begin with and don't hire a company to do it for you for a "fee". It takes about a half hour but your future is worth it. Good luck!

Is there any grants for single moms with no transportation?

The government is NOT in the business of giving away free money for the sake of giving away money. There are no grants for paying bills, for buying cars, no grants for paying off credit cards, no grants for getting out of debt and no grants for simply fattening your wallet.

Grants are free, but it means OBLIGATION. You will be obligated to do as the grant sets out to do. Grants have objectives, and your purpose must fit the objective of the grant.

For one, you have to write the grant application and the grant application is not a simple document - you have to explain how your purpose for applying for the grant fits well with the objectives set out by the grant.

There is a stringent review process through a committee. You will compete with other applicants for the grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved.

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

Start-up biz grant single dad?

Sorry, there are no government grants to 'start up' a for profit business.

You can look at the US government grant site, http://www.grants.gov

You may have better results at the US Business portal, http://www.business.gov - they have a 'finance finder' tool that will search available loans and grants by state. The Small Business Administration web site has a wealth of information including how to prepare and apply for a small business loan. See http://www.sba.gov

Hello There... Fellow Single dad here.I agree with the thread starter 100% here.I am 34 years old with Sole Custody of my 7 year old son.His mom walked out on us a number of years back to be with her new man in the airforce. She pays no child support and hasn't see her son in almost 5 years. Not too bitter about it, but it is what it is...When she first walked out, I tried applying for financial support from local programs like WIC.Since WIC is only for Women, Infants, and Children, neither my son nor I was eligible for any support through the local WIC office.Child support is a joke too. After spending countless hours with my attorney and the child support office, I was entitiled to 13 dollars a week.. despite being entitled to this amount, I still have not seen a single dime from my son's mother... With the fees my attorney charges, I figure I will never be able to re-coup the costs through child support.Single mothers can also apply for financial assistance with continued education as well. When I inquired about this with the local university, I was denied due to my gender.Being a single parent is extremely difficult work. We need to be both mom and dad to our children. In the image of society, it seems single mom's have it more difficult than single dads; but nothing could be further than the truth. Single dad's must maintain a career and care for the child without the support of the child's mother. Not saying these programs should not exist to support single moms; but in this day and age of equality, what is offered to single moms should be available to single dads as well.-A struggling single father

As a single mother can I get paid to go to school?

Loans and scholarships are pretty much the two ways. FAFSA offers the subsidized loans. . They are based on your income and the number of people in your family. Lower income people qualify for more. Private loans are different, they don't care about income, but the interest rates are much higher. If you were still a dependent on your parents, you'd need to disclose their financials for FAFSA, but since you're an adult and self-supporting, they'll be based on your need. Most students combine those with private scholarships. It is possible, but *VERY* rare to be able to 100% finance a college education through scholarships; universities rarely give a 100% free ride, but you may get a needs based scholarship that reduces your costs, and then you make up the difference with the loans. Many scholarships are merit, and not needs based. They take no interest income, you could be a millionaire and qualify based on merit. Your best bet: talk to an adviser at the college you'd like to attend.
