Group Created To Address Youth Violence

What are the causes of youth violence?

When there is youth violence, the youth think that each one knows more than the parents. There is too much violence on TV and movies and then they believe that this is the way life is. They are wrong and the parents have to sit down and listen to what their children talk about. Most of the parents are maybe too busy with their jobs there is no time for the youth. Another thing wrong with youth violence is not enough Bible study and not being present at the Lords house. ..We need more Christian education and less gossip among the youth Too much filthy wording taking gods name in vain

Turns out if we got rid of all non white youth violence, America would be one of the safest in the world?

Why can’t Liberals and Conservatives just accept that whites are much more peaceful, and our streets would be much safer at night if we got rid of blacks and Latinos from the country. It would look like Switzerland if that were the case. Less poverty, less crime, less pressure from other groups telling you you’re evil and all of your privileges are ill gotten gains that must be given to underprivileged communities. Life would be so much simpler

What can we do to decrease youth violence and/or mass shootings?

Either remove gun-free zones or require them to be fully liable for the safety of anyone there by providing sufficient armed guards to prevent incidents.  Require all schoolchildren to attend a rigorous gun safety program.  This will satisfy their curiosity about guns in a supervised situation,  which will reduce stupidity around guns. Gag the media.  They should not be permitted to violate the privacy and due process rights of anyone not yet convicted of a crime. If a would-be shooter knows they will be described as only a (state)  man/woman, and their face will be blurred out, then they also know they won't get (in)famous unless they surrender and get convicted.  That will probably prevent some and reduce the death toll in others.  The media should be allowed to film and record everything,  but release very little unless the suspect is convicted.  If they die or are acquitted,  the court should order the film and records be sealed or destroyed.  If we had followed this procedure with OJ Simpson,  the story would have been "A California man has been arrested in the murder of a California man and woman" . Without the circus at his trial, he might have been convicted then, in which case we'd still have gotten the see the spectacle.  If he had still been acquitted,  after his conviction at the second trial, the media may have been able to show the events of the first trial. Klebold and Harris,  Harper, and others might never have acted, knowing they wouldn't get their 15 minutes of fame.

What are some ideas for substance abuse group activities?

I facilitate 4 substance abuse groups per week at my job.  The group is typically between 15-25 adults.  They truly enjoy activities that involve improving their self-esteem, art activities or games.  One that they really like is a take off of "Fear in a Hat" where everyone anonymously writes a problem they are going through currently on a slip of paper.  Each group member puts the problem in a cup and then they take turns pulling one problem out for the group to discuss.  It helps with learning problem solving skills.  Also it helps them learn they are not alone, alot of the other members have the same types of problems, etc... I find it helps me find out where the group is at as well as gives me topic ideas to focus on like dysfunctional relationships, pressure from friends, anger management etc...

Are violent videogames responsible for the behavior of the youth?

People—-a whole lot of really smart, really educated, really dedicated people—have spent lifetimes researching this very question. The answer has been the same. But you may not find facts particularly engaging; so, consider a question. If mere violent video games could so easily manipulate the links between and among thought and deed, projection and ingestion, intention and action, psychology and performance, physics and metaphysics, presentation and self, epistemology and ethics, intention and motivation, word and affirmation, Being and Being with, punishment and crime, rehabilitation and reincarnation, past and future, would this not be a prize beyond all avarice? An epiphany of power absolute? Would this not transform one into a god beyond comprehension?Imagine the power you would wield. Imagine the temptation for abuse. Imagine the exhilaration. With so much godliness at your fingertips, would you really be content to influence teenagers to become violent?Would not the feral part of you seek to turn the world on its head, requiring all to bow to your prowess?Stoop to influence teenagers? No! Rise to rule the universe! No one can match the power to make others do what they otherwise would not!

Do you think that video games really turn people violent?

Short answer: No.Long answer: Not only do I not think that video games make people violent, I know that video games do not make people violent. And the reason is quite simple: most people aren’t psychotic.(You may stop here, or progress for elaboration)You see, humans are quite adept at compartmentalizing the contexts in which we experience things. We know that video games are fictional, and so being violent has no negative consequences in that context. But we can recognize that such violence is okay only when playing video games, and that it doesn’t extend to the real world. And when a person can’t do that, they are diagnosed as psychotic.Psychosis is a (critically serious) mental disorder which causes a person’s thoughts and emotions to be divorced from reality. So if you play GTA 5 and go on a massive murder spree, then think that it’s okay to go out and literally murder actual people, then you are fucking psychotic, and that is not okay. The good news is that very few people are psychotic; the U.S. handles roughly 200,000 cases per year; very few of those cases are worse than mild, and very few of those very few are characterized by this particular disconnect. Psychosis does have a broad symptomatology. In short, the people who might be affected by violent video games are exceedingly rare. And in such cases, it is a mental disorder—and not the video games—that is the culprit. This is why virtually every reliable study on the matter has concluded no correlation (and certainly no causation) between consumption of violent media and violent tendencies. It’s also why I’ll defend all forms of sexual activity, no matter how disturbing I think it is, so long as it’s legal and consensual. If someone’s into rape play, and they aren’t psychotic, they’re not going to magically turn into a serial rapist. But I digress.

Is the glorification of drugs, sex, and violence in rap music a plot to destroy Black youth?

Well, I believe it's having an impact on them... I mean come on.. They probably feel like they need something to look up to.. And It might as well be that.. People don't understand to power behind the these things..
