My dogs penis and testicles came out. Is this normal?
First, what you saw is a normal reaction. Second, that was not his testicles, that was the gland at the base of the penis that swells when dogs 'tie' during a breeding. What you see on the outside of the penis is just the protective sheath (skin and hair). The penis is tucked inside until the dog is aroused. Once he has bred (or thinks he has!) the penis swells up, as you saw, and comes out of the sheath. The sheath acts as a bit of a tourniquet to prevent the penis from deflating before the ejaculate is complete. The bulb swells up (usually inside the female) and her vulva tightens around the bulb to hold the penis in place. It is a normal reaction, nothing to worry about, unless it takes an extremely long time (20 minutes or so) to retract and go back in. You can wrap a cool cloth around it if you want to hurry it along.
