Guitarist/ Pianist Question

Experiened Guitar/Piano players! Question on Chord Progession?

Hey I'm just messing around with some chords, but I'm stuck on my "bridge" of my song.

Here are my chords so far (I believe I'm the key of C [or G])

Chorus :

C, E, Am, G6

Bridge:

C, C7no5, Fmaj7/C, and then... I don't know what.

Any help would be great! And 10 points obviously for the best sounding one!

I'm a decent pianist (and a guitarist). Music production and audio engineering in general is so vast. How do I get started?

I agree with Vinay Raj.  There are loads of great (and some not so great) tutorials available.  There are lots of choices for a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), some are free some are extremely inexpensive.  If you own a Mac you already have a decent toy to start with, Garageband.  You'll need an audio interface (or card) and at least one decent mic if you want to do anything more than midi. And you'll need to practice a lot!  This means practice using the tools (as much as practicing the music.)One more thing that I'd add to 'how to get started' is to be clear on where you intend to go.  If you simply want to produce your own music the answer may be quite different than the steps to becoming a professional music producer.  It also depends on where you want  your music to go.  It's one thing to make mp3s for your friends or to share on soundcloud or somewhere else on the internet and quite another thing to expect to sell your music on iTunes, Google, Amazon or any of the other retailers. My advice:  Learn the basics (maybe - tracking and mixing.)  Start simple.  Get stuff done.  Put it out there.  Get feedback.  Learn more (maybe - advance tracking.)  Get more stuff done.  Put it out there.  Get feedback.  Learn more (maybe - tweaking plugins/effects.)  Get more stuff done.  Put it out there.  Get feedback....you get the idea.[trying not to overwhelm, you are absolutely right, production and engineering are vast subjects.  No one learns this stuff overnight.  The set of things that you need to know will depend on what you are trying to accomplish.  The key to getting started is to actually do something.  The more you do the more you will understand what you need to do next.]

What pianists should a jazz guitarist listen to?

One could go as far back as Mozart, Jelly Roll Morton etc. depending on the musical interests of the guitarist, Classical? Jazz? R&B? Any and all should have some bearing on who to listen to. I have always maintained that a person should not restrict the forms of music to which they listen in order to provide themselves with the widest variety of repertoire that would or could influence the eventual unique style of the guitarist in question.

Should I learn piano or guitar?

Piano is easier and you won't have to have really quick fingers to play it. Guitar takes a little more to get used to. But it all comes down to one thing. What do you like better? It's all up to you. A lot of people can give you suggestions, but the only answer is in your heart. What are you more into? The way it sounds in your question, it sounds like you're stuck with a guitar that you bought and now you want to play piano. If that's the case you should go to piano. Be patient with the guitar though, and make sure you really want to do this. It's really more of a love/ hate relationship I find between a guitar player and his guitar. The guitar becomes really fun once you know how to play it. You can only go so far with a piano. I suggest if you buy a piano, to buy a keyboard cause you can do more things with it and it's less expensive. Hope this helps.

Should I learn piano or guitar?

I really want to learn how to play an instrument. I played the flute in middle school band for a very short time, up until I moved. I was pretty even on piano and guitar, but now I'm leaning a bit more on guitar. Opinions?

Advice on how to harmonize piano and guitar?

Its all about writing around scales.

One instrument, say the guitar, could play the same 4 chord pattern. e.g. G, c7, E minor & D. Then to harmonize, the piano can play any notes in the G scale, an then C7 scale and so on.. following the pattern the guitar is doing.

Using different octaves works great and it would normally be the piano that would go higher.

A guitar player is seated next to a piano. The piano player stikes an E key on the piano.?

The guitarist reports that this causes the E string on his guitar to vibrate. What is the name of this phenomenon?

A. Polarization
B. Resonance
C. Reflection
D. Diffraction

How much time does it take to learn to play the guitar and the piano?

I've been playing guitar for 5–6 years, most of that time with a professional education. At this point, I'm pretty comfortable playing almost every song and focus now on improv and creating my own music. As for piano, I've been playing for around 2 years entirely self taught. Given the chords to a song, I can play along and add little melodic fills throughout. Playing things by ear I’d say is my strong point as a musician. You can judge how much time it takes to “learn” an instrument based on my experience. Cheers!
