No, the Brady Bill has not expired. The Brady Bill still requires either waiting periods or instant-checks for handgun purchases. My state uses and instant check system, so I can walk into a store, buy a handgun and walk out with it (after instant check approval.) The assault weapons ban did expire, but congress never sent an extension of the ban to the president, so he never had a chance to sign an extension. I say good riddance to the ban.

The answer to your question is, most people with logical processing skills, either Rep or Dem, recognize that violence is a function of societal issues, not the tools used to perpetrate it.With the exception of abortion, murder is already against the law in every jurisdiction in the U.S. One cannot go into a store, fill out a form and buy a murder, an armed robbery, or a rape to go. Yet still these crimes are committed every single minute of every single day. IF LAWS REDUCED CRIME we’d already live in nirvana.Two things reduce violent crime, the first is increasing the standard of living, a thing we have been doing in this country for some time now. We have been particularly successful at that for the last 50 years.The second thing is providing citizens with economic opportunity through education. We have been less successful at that in the inner-cities than elsewhere. That is why modern violent crime is largely an inner-city problem. Where entire areas, suffer from poor education and limited opportunity, violent crime festers. The worst of these areas are and have been run by democrats for generations and they already have strict gun control in place. If gun control worked, Baltimore and Chicago would have very low crime rates.Most intelligent and open-minded people can see this intuitively. Democrats who come from large metropolitan areas where crime is rampant have to blame SOMETHING. So they target the 2nd amendment. Republicans somehow know that freedom does not cause crime. Ignorance, mental illness, and economic stagnation do that.
Why do Democratic politicians continually assert that there is a significant proliferation of “assault weapons” among civilians?
surprisingly enough, it is not only the Democrats. people of all political persuasions claim the ‘assault weapons’ are inherently dangerous, because they’ve been indoctrinated to that belief from at least the beginning of our formal involvement in Vietnam. (The flying buzz-saws was how 5.56mm bullets were described in the news in 1968)the simple fact ois an ‘assault weapon’ is a sub-machine gun. pure and simple. what the civilian version is is merely a rifle that will load —but-not-fire- the next round automatically. For reference, a revolver will position the next round for firing by the pull of a trigger.. A musket must be loaded before it can be fired again.the ‘proliferation’ of semiautomatics is a knee-jerk reaction to the news of whatever idiot decides to take a weapon out and go someplace public to commit MASS-MURDER. The news outlets love nothing so much as lots and lots of blood (unless you count sexual scandal) and report the blood along with some half formed theories of ‘experts’ (With no actual record of their expertise). For some reason people take those half-formed theories as (if you will excuse the term) Gospel. and the myth of the self-proliferating ‘Assault Weapons’ is continues.There are more than thirty thousand laws already on the books throughout the US, as to the possession of firearms. Instead of making new laws, that do no good, why not actually enforce those laws that already exist?Oh, wait. that would mean people would have to actually do their jobs.

States have passed the so-called Red Flag laws where a judge orders a citizen’s gun Rights taken away. The citizen (subject of the order) has NO notice, there is NO due process! The citizen has NO representation, and is NOT present in court. These laws make a citizen GUILTY with NO trial AT ALL. The courts tell the police force, that the citizen is armed, and is a danger to himself or others! How do you think that the police treat the citizen???? Do you think that they are going to politely knock on the door and explain that there is a court order? Heck NO. The cops have been told that the person is an armed DANGEROUS person!!! All on an UNPROVEN, UNINVESTIGATED ACCUSATION!All that you need in order to answer this question is this one example! For those reading this answer, what do you think of a law which sends the cops to someone’s home, busting in the door, permission or no, handcuffing citizens, forcibly taking property, with ZERO PROOF of GUILT????This is way beyond just having a bunch of Democrats dimwits spouting off about their plans to attack the the 2nd Am Rights of citizens!!These are examples of a massive abuse of power by the state legislatures, and by the courts! This is a tyrannical government, abusing power in contradiction of the founding document.
