There is no explicit verse about music in the Holy Quran, even though, there are several interpretational traditions under some verses as well as many traditions. Let me mention one of the verses:وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْترَى لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيرْ عِلْمٍ وَ يَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا أُوْلَئكَ لهَمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ(لقمان:6)Among the people is he who buys diversionary talk that he may lead] people [astray from Allah's way without any knowledge, and he takes it in derision. For such there is a humiliating punishment. (31:6)“diversionary talk” is any entertaining and neglectful statement or music which direct the human to futility and error.It is narrated from Imam Sadiq (as): God doesn’t pay attention to those who are present in music gatherings [[some music can lead to bad feelings and evil actions]]; after that he (as) recited this part of verse: Among the people is he who buys diversionary talk that he may lead [[people]] astray from Allah's way (31:6) [wasail al shia,Vol6,p227]It’s suitable to say that some music is good; it can affect positive influence upon those who listen to it. There are other kinds of music, which is bad; it can lead to harmful feelings and evil actions. So not all music is haram but rather, some music is forbidden.

I might be hypicritcial for saying this, but I agree with u. The reason I say I might be hypocritical is bc I listen to music, but after reading this, inshallah I'll stop. I have seen some evidence from sahih hadiths and scholars that some music is halaal, not like todays kind of music though. I also heard somewhere that when dajjal comes he will come with music and whoever likes music will become his follower. Dont mind these other guys answers, I'm with u 100%.
