What is so special about Kendriya Vidyalaya?

Kendriya Vidyalaya is one of the best schools in India, I can say this because I was a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya for 12 years. (1st to 12th std)Currently there are 1202 Kendriya Vidyalayas all over India widespread in 25 regions. Now you ask what is special?KV taught us that we are Indians and regions, states, class, ethnicity cannot divide us.Common syllabus and books in all the schools, this made easy for parents as well as students with transferable jobs to adjust in new environment.Encouraging staff and experienced teachers providing best education , the exam paper for Non board classes also was set on regional level.Huge infrastructure with ample space for playground (separate for Primary and secondary)Good laboratories with access to all required instruments and chemicals. (Concentrated chemicals were used only around a lab assistants supervision) and massive library.Sports meet, annual meets and other extra co-curricular activities.( I was an athlete, prayer group singer as well as a trumpet player in the school band group)We were introduced to http://Think.com in our 6th standard, this is a secured web for students , teachers and schools to interact and share ideas, poems, stories etc. {We were far ahead of Facebook even at that time ;) :p }We had personality development classes, yoga classes, SUPW classes and adolescent classes in our teenage, we had proper sessions for this and we were informed the changes we go through the very much normal. ( This activity depends on based on the school you choose)NCC provided military training to students and motivated them to join armed forces.10. Indian Youth Parliament - All the KV schools trained students and recreated actual parliament session, the best school to portray this all over India won.11. I was never forced to mug up an answer to write in exam, my teachers always encouraged creative mind and answers as per the understanding12. Our School prayer - Daya Kar daan vidya Ka...If you ever meet any KVian in any part of the world, I can guarantee they will be confident and shinning in whatever field they choose to be in.Proud KVianThanks.PS - All Points mentioned above are true and practiced in most of the KV schools. Does Kendriya Vidyalaya employees transfer every year?

No, KV teachers didn't get transferred every year. Usually 3–4 years they are at one location then get transferred. There are teachers who were at one location for more than 10 years, they may get transferred to other location but come back to same old location. In my opinion one can take transfers as an opportunity to go to different places, understand different cultures plus it brings something new to the monotonous life.

Who can get admission to Kendriya Vidyalaya?

Students offcourse :PKendriya vidyavalya is a central school. It comprises over 1094 schools all over India and 3 abroad. The main objective of kv is to educate children of the Indian defence army as the officers are frequently posted to some remote areas. But now it has expanded it's admission to the children of government servants too.I have done my 11th and 12th from kv chopan, and according to my personal experience I advice you not to take admission in kv. Following are the reasons-Mostly all the teachers are pedagogue, they will focus more on formal rules and not on academics. Their main aim is just to complete the syllabus. They won't take pain making you understand the topics. Also the teachers specially the senior ones. They are frequently transferred to some other place, this may happen twice or thrice a year. And if you are senior student you will find hard to cope up with the new teachers. Eventually you’ll not get anything and have to depend on tutions.Mostly all the stage programmes are performed in hindi (complete hindi). You will hardly find any student or teacher speaking in english. Though it isn't a bad idea but all the cbse books are written in english and as a result you will find difficulty in writing your answers in english due to poor vocabulary. Moreover the activities held in kv are way too boring. I remember once we had english/hindi writing competition (when I was in 12th). So forget about debates and allocation. However life was fun here as we got two to three periods free out of eight everyday maybe because the teacher was not present or he/she is not willing to attend the class but frankly telling I didn't do anything productive in these two years and I regret it badly.Thankyou :)

What exactly is NRI quota?

Original Question: “What exactly is NRI quota?”Aloha mate,The name I suppose should be suffice to explain what the term stands for. But no worries, I gotcha.NRI Quota as the name implies, is a quota which is available for children of Non-Resident Indian spouses to pursue a professional course in India.NRI Quota is an umbrella term which is generally missed by the public and it not only includes NRIs, but also Person of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) and Foreign Nationals. Aforementioned categories are given a predetermined number of seats in the government funded institutes. Here is a list depicting the number of NRIs and PIOs in various countries.Link: Non-resident Indian and person of Indian origin - WikipediaThis quota has a primary advantage and a primary disadvantage.Advantage:Not all the government funds are allocated equally. Some institutes face shortage of funds. So when students under this category come to such institutes, it provides a kind of miniature cash cow (although it is not suffice and not as magnanimous as you expect).Another concealed reason is to boost the outlook of India to make it seem as a suitable destination for pursuing higher studies so that the number of international students increase. This will give a healthy boost to Indian Universities.>E.g.: Let us take the example of my college, i.e. MNNNIT Allahabad. There are 82 seats reserved under this category.Per semester the fess is 4000 USD. (For Undergraduate Engineering Courses only)A quick calculation gives us 320000 USD per semester. We have 8 semesters and hence the college receives 2.56 million USD in 4 years from these 82 students.>This is not a minuscule amount and can be used in a variety of ways. This however does not imply that I am idolizing the category students for providing finances to the college. I simply wanted to state the fact that the students pay through their nose.Disadvantage:The seats which should instead be allocated to meritorious students is now snatched away and given to some rich brat who may or may not have an inclination towards academics.NRI quota is wrapped in its myriad opportunities and traps.Let us until the government action, maintain a status quo on the presence of NRI quota.Hope this helps.KG
